hmm...isn't this a discussion board where folks can post their opinion's about a set or a line? thought so...there are several posts I disagree with, but you have to let it go, who cares what you post as long as you are participating...stated opinions are better than "I like it" which I have seen a lot as well, what is the point of "I like it". Only by analyzing and building can one figure out how to get TLG to make a better product for us all. That said, I find it interesting that PS, which has less pieces and a lower price, is heavier than the newer ones with more piece counts and a higher price. DO - 4 lbs 4 oz 2262 pieces $160 PR - 4 lbs 2 oz 2469 pieces $160 PS - 4 lbs 13 oz 2032 pieces $150 To me, this implies smaller pieces for a higher price...which is interesting now that the price of oil is down, and since oil is a key content to make plastic, will the prices of Lego fall in the future? I hope so.

I like it, nice use of the color and the green space is well represented (recommend that you post a pic of the actual place, I looked it up) I would change the title of the post though, couldn't find any reference to a library. This is an excellent mini build though, great job and thanks for sharing.

I agree with everyone else, as a huge sports fan, I am waiting for the Sydney Opera House size stadium to come out, don't care what sport Lego does it with, just want one. In the meantime I live vicariously through all the great folks who make the MOC's like you did. OYO vs Lego doesn't matter, especially if you are a fan of one team specifically then you kind of have to go OYO to get your team in there. Fun build to see, am sure there are lots of hours in it, great job and thanks for sharing.

Has anyone built a LEGO Hub Bird 2014 Employee Gift Set?
Herky replied to Legogal's topic in Special LEGO Themes
After building the Ideas birds, I agree, I would like to pick up that Hub birds set to add 5 more, I am not sure they are the same scale, but that is one thing I was looking to find out. I think Birds might have been the best set put out on Jan 1 or maybe a tie with Slave I. I have been watching the Hub Birds on ebay every day and just missed out on one last week. I wish TLG would produce that 400XXXX series for everyone, even the factory sets are really cool. -
good points all and thanks for the pictures of it next to others, was surprised to see the barber shop was taller than the PS, but this reiterates my post from Jan 1 about the Slave I being a better overall looking set than DO and is also why I didn't pick it up day 1; having just built the birds set, that was fun and the result is great, they look awesome, now to see if I can snag an employee birds set with the other 5 for a decent price. I think you all are seeing what I saw though, play stories do not equate to happy AFOL's, we want buildings that mirror real life with enough room to get our hands inside and we aren't really going to play with them anyway so make them cool enough to look at and occasionally move things around, but don't expect us to run home from school and right to the modular so we can have fun after our homework is done...that's what other lines are for.

LEGO 21022 Lincoln Memorial - now in stores + review
Herky replied to henrysunset's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I believe, don't quote me, but at some point, I think Lego did do some kind of the onion dome church looking buildings they have in Moscow and Russia. OK yes, it was Lego 7418, but I would love to see an official TLG set of these buildings. I have seen some great MOCs of it. Even a good representation of the Hagia Sofia would be cool, but I think that might be a church that became a mosque and is now a museum? I know a lot of folks thought the SW Jabba's palace set looked like it, so why not do it for real? -
LEGO 21022 Lincoln Memorial - now in stores + review
Herky replied to henrysunset's topic in Special LEGO Themes
As much as I didn't like the scale, I too got this set yesterday and put it together. 274 pieces, so was about 15 mins or so I guess...I actually like the finished product as you say, but when I was done I was just thinking wow, this is nice for being so small, what could it have been if it was 2 or 3 times the size? I feel TLG mailed this one in, but I do like it now that I built it. I want better buildings myself, we need a FLW house or similar again, I will get Flatiron but that is going to be just like Lincoln I am guessing...will like it once its built but I am bleh on getting office buildings that someone considers great architecture. We already have that with the early versions of Hancock, Sears, etc. The architecture world has so much more to offer. -
It was actually bigger, a SW ship bigger than a modular, and it really outshined the building as well. My daughter was with me and hadn't seen the DO and even she said, wow that is the best they could do? There were certainly aspects of it I liked a lot though, just needs to have that extra floor if you ask me to stand out a bit more.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Herky replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Was there at opening this morning, about 40th in line, the DO and Slave I flew off the shelves, but they kept bringing more out, said they had about 100 of each in the back. They sold at least 30 of each in the first 30 mins. I said this on the DO thread: They had both of those in the cases next to each other, it was pretty sad cause the Slave I really outshines the DO, it's actually bigger even. That tells me the DO is long on small pieces. If you gave me the choice, I would go with Slave I every time. Sorry but the Slave I just look so much more impressive than DO in a side by side comparison. I did pick up the Birds, which looks very nice. Oddly they did not have any PR at all in the store, they were back ordered they said. -
Went this morning and got the Lincoln, the Birds, a couple small new SW sets (microfighters), 2 Friends sets for my daughter and all the freebies they give out related to it (flower cart, a free SW polybag, free Friends) and I got the double decker couch from the Lego movie. We got there about 5 mins before it opened and were about 40th in line, the doors opened to a mad rush and the DO and Slave I flew off the shelves to anyone who could get their hands on it. They had both of those in the cases next to each other, it was pretty sad cause the Slave I really outshines the DO, it's actually bigger even. That tells me the DO is long on small pieces. If you gave me the choice, I would go with Slave I every time.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Herky replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
that's what I meant about the museum on Ideas, agree with you, hopefully that one will get made, it's the right piece count and is pretty much ready to go -
you are right, I zoomed in a picture of the items in package and the top of the white bricks do not say Lego...I had found them searching ebay for the animals series 6 packs...didn't look too closely as I had not even heard of these, figured someone here would know, thanks for the info!
-
either way, price per piece or weight, I doubt that it is $10 for 200 pieces or less
-
anyone seen these sets of 6 girls on white bases that say friends? http://www.ebay.com/itm/lot-of-6-sets-Friends-Girl-Series-Minifigure-toys-s-all-new-in-plastic-bags-/351267893754?pt=Building_Toys_US&hash=item51c932b1fa I am not sure what this is, a promo or some kind of set like that?

If PR doesn't have a high level of detail then where did all the pieces come from? At 2469 pieces, there is something there, since I did not get it yet, I wonder if the walls are all just broken up into smaller pieces now. If you all have noticed, the piece counts might be high, but the pieces are such that you get a lot but they aren't comparable to the earlier modular sets. Architecture line...agree, I own them all, so apples to oranges between those sets and the modular, you can't compare them. Architecture is true adult just look at the offerings, they don't have any play functionality at all. They are higher end display pieces. The new ones, Lincoln is so tiny it's just there though and some genius (saracastic) thought the Flatiron building needed to be made. That line is dying off really, no creativity in choices at all. City sets compare more to Modular than anything, as pointed out, they are open usually for the most play, but modular to me is the big house, I would never get this and build it for an 8 year old even though they would find it fun. I am about ready to sell all my Modulars except HH as it is, the line drives me nuts with these "stories" Also the DO is 2262 pieces so same price as PR but just slightly higher count than PS and PC...guess 2200 pieces is the level where they raise the price $10.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Herky replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
The museum on Ideas did reach 10K supporters so should be up for consideration to produce as a set. It is really pretty ready for TLG to just modify a tad and go into production if they so choose. There are definitely others that could make the cut as well. The key is to keep the piece count and price point near the same as what we get today. Jan 1 is almost upon us, seems that day is getting to be pretty big for TLG each year, so many new sets to be release Thursday. -
SweetiePie, sorry to hear about your dental problems, those issues can be worse than breaking a bone. Glad you have found a hobby that makes you happy and is helping you to cope. 14 extractions is what, almost half your teeth? Good luck in the future and I hope you get all the sets, have seen them on ebay as well, hoped they wouldn't be so pricey, but am also hoping they hit stores in 1st Q 2015. I really like the heart polybag, will have to search the 2 TRU's here to see if I can find it.
-
SweetiePie is right, the US and the rest of the world was in sync through Wave 3 I think and then 2014 changed all that, frustrating yes, seems silly, I haven't even looked for them on ebay cause I figured they would hit North America at some point.
-
I hear you, I was out with the kids today and went to an obscure Target I usually never check and lo and behold, they had the lighthouse and hot air balloon along with the puppy set. I am hoping series 6 will hit Jan 1 with the others...so odd that they are not releasing it here in the US. I saw what you mean on the hot air balloon though, it didn't seem like it was priced right.

I think you just backed up my point, this set is basically better as a parts pack than the actual set it was intended to be, especially since there is not much going on with it as you say. If this is the offerings we are going to get, then why do the line? I would rather have a bigger building that is more meaningful, sure they are coming out with Flatiron, but that is not really meaningful, it's an office building in the shape of a triangle. I guess I long to hearken back to the FLW buildings or get something in there that is a big enough build that looks great at a decent price.

I have all the Arch sets like RollerMonkey but I have to say this is the first set I am thinking about skipping...it is just so small and I am thinking what's the point of doing a micro/mini Lincoln Memorial? Don't get me wrong, your review is good and I appreciate seeing it, so it's really me. I don't get the point of the set being that little and the set just seems to have a box that is 10 x the size of the build for no reason. The highlight of this set might be the accompanying booklet/set of instructions. Here is what I would add: Highlight the booklet a bit more, maybe show some of the pages. Also, if you know this info, include piece count, cost and some particulars...I know you got this free so you might not have all that info. I just think the Arch designers did the least possible designing on this one and mailed it in for what...$20 or $30? Very disappointed in TLG on this one.
-
I think it is because of the balloon parts, so they would cost more to mold and make and then Lego wants to get their money back, my daughter is super excited about both, but having been to Target and TRU where I live and have found nothing. At this point, I will just wait til Jan 1 and go to the Lego store to get the points.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Herky replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
notaromantic, I think it is due to the nature of the modular buildings so far, while there are elements of living quarters in many, and I share the desire for a Brownstone with you and have mentioned it, the residences are likely not something that any of the designers will key on. They seem to be building a city block from the 1930's or so and building the infrastructure first. I would go for a Victorian for sure, the Green Grocer is Victorian to me, but I think the far off future, once they complete all the businesses they have, the may move in that direction. I could see a Brownstone though in the next 5, would be similar to Pet Shop and not too hard to do really. You could pick up 2 or 3 and really do a residential area if that was your thing. Good thoughts -
that is very cool, wish I could make it to Brickworld to see it, I love the basketball court, and as folks have said, wish I had the talent to do something like this, minifigs would be proud to play ball here and do gymnastics, great job!

wow, that is amazing, how long did that take? a labor of love for sure, very good job on it all, a lot of fun to see each picture and thanks for sharing it, this kind of thing just makes me want to get more Lego
