Technic guys into trains
Bricktrain replied to davidmull's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The Mearsk engine is an awesome piece, but you dont necessarily have to pay exorbitant prices, you could build it in alternative colours, more of my trains here http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=494578 -
Technic guys into trains
Bricktrain replied to davidmull's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
You probably wouldnt believe me if I told you I have Trains also, but I do and too many actually, I am wanting to reduce my colection, currently 35 locos and 100+ rolling stock. My main reason for reducing is that I dont have room for a large town (city) layout and especially that town (city) sets become outdated so quickly. -
My dilema is the pneumatic cyinder brackets. I dismantled part of a model last week with 32 cylinders and cylinder brackets, I struggled to fit them in the container I keep my pneumatic parts in, I mean how often do I have use for all of my 80 brackets? I guess I could sell a few and then buy a few more power puller wheels and tyres, 24 of them isnt going to be enough is it?

Build Linear Actuators
Bricktrain replied to Mats_o's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
For my large crane boom and lift cylinder I had to use two gears driven by two worm gears to get enough force. It will lift the boom out of the cradle http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=486168 -
General Part Discussion

Actually I was thinking a few days ago that it would be good to have a thread here of new parts introduced each year.- 5,465 replies

Bump Steer
Bricktrain replied to SNIPE's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
bump steer is usually caused by the steering tie rods being the incorrect length. if your top and bottom arms are both the same length then the tie rods should also be the same length. -
The easiest solution would probably be to limit the extension by 2-3 studs to allow T1 to remain further into the main boom. I had a struggle to get my boom and actuator strong enough but it has become quite a bit larger so not as much of a problem now. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/bricktrain/construction/2011/ATC/p8150109.jpg Another help is to put the gear rack and drive to the underside of the boom rather than on the top.

[WIP] Dump Truck
Bricktrain replied to Rishab N's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I think the axles should be in line with the axle proper, rather than in line with the steering racks. Not all US built trucks are longnose (conventional). Until about 5 years ago most KW, Mack and Western Star trucks here were single steering axle on conventional and twin steer on Cabover, now twin steer is as common on conventional also. -
PF is a good system and has made me start collecting again. When they replaced 9v with RC it was not a good time and RC was a horrible system with its big bulky bases, so much that I decided to part with my entire Train collection and then my city and technic also. PF does take up more space than 9v but can be incorporated into some smaller builds, like my recently posted diesel shunter. I also fitted PF into a Lone Ranger box car to power my LR train for my brick show display.

New Zealand: "Where to find Lego"
Bricktrain replied to Legoman's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
and with the way prices are going on the new sets it is cheaper to buy them on BL and pay shipping than buy them with free shipping at S@H -
looks good in LDD should be okay in bricks.
-
For NZ buyers it is cheaper to buy from BL and pay shipping,it will still save about 20% on S@H prices. I think that with the PF pieces it is on a par with all the other sets for price. Just a pity us down under get crippled on prices they want us to pay.
-
Cheapest I see on BL in the US is $240US. Still a lot cheaper than they are at retail ln NZ, $350NZ = $300US
