I hope he has put a steering wheel in it.

If you are running two powered engines, one at each end you dont need a seperate switch as you can use the one on the PF receiver. To run my HEs back to back I have two motors in the pulling engine only, it is more reliable than having two receivers. To put two motors in the Mearsk you need two motors, one battery box, one receiver and one PF switch.

New Zealand: "Where to find Lego"
Bricktrain replied to Legoman's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Toyco dont discount the Modulars or any limited releases, even some of the larger sets like the 42030 loader they dont discount. -
For me 8285 is the one I prefer for MOCing, but that is my personal opinion, I now have 8 different versions of it built. 8011 is playable but only for a short period, if you are into attatchments then it is almost limitless. 8043 I didnt enjoy much at first but have since found it more interesting and playable, and it is compatible with other models, complements my 8285s well. I have been planning to build another version of it with L motors for more power but havent done it yet. I didnt buy the set as it was very delayed here due to the LA problems, we didnt get it here until the re-release and by then I had already built it from parts. My 8258 I have just sold, it didnt inspire me at all, I would have preferred it to have been a dumptruck like the modded one used in the 42030 displays.

I am guessing the crane is based on a log loader type crane so wouldnt fold up across the width of the truck but to me it still looks like it is a little too big, mostly in the height of the mast. Still a great set, definitely great for parts.

My Chrome Obsession
Bricktrain replied to OneMoreRobot's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
no reason why you cant http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=Aurimax if you cant find the piece then message him he has many more in stock that arent listed, some cant be listed as they are parts that are chromed by lego so not allowed by bricklink to be listed. -
It is not cheating, it is a neccessity on real cranes also, it is called a keeper, as it keeps the ropes on the correct sheave. Many large cranes have a reeving winch which pulls a small line through the sheaves to connect the winch rope to for helping in reeving the hook. Tomorrow I will be assembling a 7150 Kobelco but since it is just in the yard to test with its new luffer it wont be having many parts of line, probably only three or four. The only problem with that one is that it is a little wide for a large multi sheave hook, if you wanted 5 or more sheaves. I have increased hook weight for my large mobile by building a boat weight into the hook.

You could use Bricklink.com, some prices wil be higher, others lower, shouldnt be that much difference in total.

I thought most Merc engines were of the V variety anyway. All our big cranes are V8 mercs, lots of their trucks used to be V6s

Thanks, the only self erectors I have seen are the small static ones we have at work. The top pic looks to be a large machine, that would be possibly a 5tonne panel and about 18m to the centre for placement if it meets the rear panel line, that would be better than a 50 tonne mobile.

I would like to see the inspiration for the crane B model, it looks like a self erecting tower crane as it has no visible cab, but that is unusual as it is on a crawler base rather than a static base and it also has a grab. Although it could just be a crawler with a tower configuration but a grab would also be unusual for that.

Why does TLG make B-models?
Bricktrain replied to Emmi's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
some like the 9396 helicopter the B model I consider as good as the main model, that is why I have both built. I have been meaning to build 42025B but havent gotten around to it yet, but from what I have seen it would appear to be as good as the main set. The new 42043 B model pics look even better than the main model. -

I have enough spare parts for most MOCs and if not I use BL. People are amazed to see the built models, many dont believe they are actually Lego. Two Lug shows in NZ have displayed almost all of the technic sets ever made, the Auckland display was most B models also, and was one members private collection, obviously it is not possible to dismantle these sets and rebuild them in time for shows. My own MODs based on 8285 I keep built but do modify them between shows, my goal is for the original set to remain with minor mods, all the other 9 to be PF and remote. I have a couple of other MOCs that I am building also. -

Why waste parts on MOCs when they could be used to build and display sets. If I dismantled all my built sets I would have far too many parts. -

While the flagship B models are often lacking, they do provide inspiration for MODs, 42030 and 8285 b models were great for that. -
I dont know about here but in other subforums posters get told off for reviving old topics. Here we seem to merge topics continually, often you cant find a topic you know you have posted in because if has been merged with some other topic. It also means we dont seem to have as many new topics posted as they get merged with old ones making the forum look less active than it actually is. Just my opinion. Back on topic, nice mods, becoming more like 8285, one of the best truck designs offered as a Technic set.

Number of parts they are allowed to use, number of new elements, cost of parts, where can they reduce costs, they are a few. Then the model is tested with a target group.
