  1. You know what they say... You see what you want to see I'm thinking of leaving the original indepepdnent suspension on mine and just adding portal hubs with bigger wheels.
  2. I'd do the opposite, put open diffs on each axle, but no center one.
  3. You can make very efficient and strong diagonal geaboxes with 16 and 20 tooth clutch gears, all the way up to 8 different speeds.
  4. Interesting choice of wheels. They really make it look futuristic and give it nice ground clearance.
  5. And here is the more or less finished model: Notice the triple front LED lights at an angle: The bodywork was heavily inspired by the 8081, especially the doors, hood and the side steps. There's a triple exhaust in the rear along with the original 8081 license plate. Rear lights are also a nod to the original model. The rear gate can open along with the cover to reveal a hidden space which can easily hold a couple of canisters: Rear-most hatch can also hopen revealing another hidden compartment for one more canister: Talking about opening things, the hood can be opened to reveal the V4 engine: The doors use simple, but effective locks to keep them in place: And here is how the model looks like with eveything opened: The suspension can easily go over bumps, or in this case canisters: Interrior features a functioning steering wheel and two shifters: The orange shifter locks the central differential, while the red handle switches between the two gears: You can see the central differential with lock in the following photo. The U-joints are for the HOG steering. You can see the whole chassis here. Notice the curved panels used as skid plates in front and the sides And that's about it.. This was a really fun little build, I am very suprised at the number of functions, features and detailes I managed to cram in this little model. Well it's not such little model, final dimensions are as following: Length: 39cm Width: 15,5 cm Height: 16 cm Weight: 1100 grams I hope you like it as much as I enjoyed building it.

  7. This is an expansion, upgrade and update of the Tiger 4 x 4 x 4 The idea was to improve certain aspects of the 4x4 version: 1. The bewel gears were the weak part of the driveline, so the 6x6 uses additional 12:20 gearing after bewel gears, increasing available torque by 67% 2. Adding a second rear axle additonally helps to spread the load while climbing, increasing available overall torque by another 50%, allowing for a total of 2,5x more torque than 4x4. 3. Using defender wheels, and self-built hubs the pivot point is now a stud closer to the steering wheel and steering angle is increased from 18 to 25-30 degrees, removing the need for rear steering. 4. Center section was widened by 2 studs, allowing both gearboxes to be placed in parallel and the steering servo motor low in the center. Total gear reduction has been increased to 1:5 in high gear and 1:15 in low gear. Gear switching mechanism is now faster and more reliable. 5. Suspension is now pendular with a shock absorber in front and tandem axles with shock absorbes in the back. This allows the suspension to smoothly adjust to the terrain at slow speeds without wasting energy compressing the shock absorbers. At high speeds the shock aborbers smooth out the ride. In the picture below you can see the blue 1x7 beams which swing and allow the front suspension to act like pendular: 6. The model now has working fake engine(s) and steering wheel.I'm thinking of adding a hook arm with a winch in the back, so I can use this model to pull others out during trial truck races 7. Number of motors have been reduced by removing rear wheel steering and having one motor for the gearbox, allowing to add aditional functions as before mentioned hook arm. So...that's all about it for now, I'm only missing defender wheels to finish this monster. Yes it's going to be heavier and slower, but I expect it to be even more capable and reliable.
  8. IMO the best building dequence playback is actually building the set. Can't wait for my playback. But few things slighty bug me with this set, the steering rack looks way overcomplicated (you could use a 13 one and a couple of perpendicular connectors).And they could have use H frames to for lower suspension support instead of 9L black beams.
  9. I think you're gonna have issues with placing steering links on the planetary hubs, since the steering arm is offset on normal hubs, but cenetred on the planetary ones. I'd also replace the 24:8 gears next to diffs to 16:16 or even 12:20 and than maybe, just maybe you could motorize it via original gearbox.
  10. The gear for secod axle is hidden under the 7L beam in front. I tried to fit a V6 in there, but there is simply no space left for the gearbox shifter then.

  12. As @vectormaticsuggested in the 42110 thread, I'm opening this topic where we can post out Defender modifications. I for one plan to give it some live axles, portal gears, bigger wheels and maybe even motorize it.
  13. I was looking at RacingBrick's photo of the inventory and was also suprised how few long beams and panels it have, and how many connectors and 5l half beams it has.... You can clearly see how building style affects the part inventory.

  15. Good observation and question. Yes, the motors can't help each other on the left and right side. This is why my future 6x6 will go back to the same principle as the Tiger 4x4x4 where each drive side is connected. I think I will open a new WIP topic about the upcoming 6x6 model soon.

  17. IMO a telehandler with planetary hubs, Claas wheels, all wheel drive and steering, liftable and extendable arm, etc... would be a more dynamic model... But I think we should post such ideas the the wish topic.

  19. Exactly, all such mechanical pieces should be designed so they can be take apart and maintained. That's the issue with this hub. ATM they are simply disposable if something goes wrong.
  20. I suggest you check instructions for the BWE and Rough terrain crane to see how they are fixed.
  21. No, each motor can control each wheel independently - so it can skid steer.
  22. Thank you for the praise. The weight is around 1600 grams and the top speed is around 7 km/h. For the remote I was using an old Iphone 5s.
