Technic 2018 Set Discussion

The weird gearbox just gives you guys something to modify, the LEGO designers are keeping you in mind -
In the larger scale and the smaller scale of my current build, I learned a lot from 2 builders specifically. You do not need to over complicate things all the time. I do not know if you have these parts, but here is just a really simple concept. The axle and hubs would be held by the suspension (just like the real truck). As @Beck knows, I am not the best at suspension, so I leave that for you. This design is not super compact, but it is a little bit better than what you have. EDIT: @BrickbyBrickTechnic I try and help whenever I can

You can ask @BrickbyBrickTechnic I give my suggestions, they are not to be taken in a bad way. They are only suggestions, you do with them as you please. In my opinion, the rear axle is too big and bulky comparing it to the picture of the rear axle you posted. Try not using the 5x7 frame. In your build, you are not using a diff, so if you plan on not using one, then the 5x7 frame is unnecessary. If you do plan on using a diff, I would still recommend trying something a little bit more condensed. Nice to see progress!

The front is too narrow, looks like you have wheel spacers on. Are you basing your build off of another machine? If so, could you post it so we have an idea?

I have said this many times on different topics, I like building my models using the pf motors I have. The scale I was building the trailer was meant to be motorized with a motorized truck. After we found out that the MACK truck was not built on the same scale, I decided to change course with the current build and build for the MACK in that scale. Nothing wrong with having a different trailer for an official LEGO model when it comes out. Yes, I know that a trailer like this would not be used with a sleeper truck, but the model truck could be easily modified for a day-cab rig. And the truck driver cannot choose the color of the trailer he/she is pulling, the grey truck with a yellow trailer crane combo is not impossible.

Update: With the most recent news about the MACK truck, I decided to scale down my build so that my crane could be used with the MACK truck once it is officially released and I have a copy. So this meant building a scale I have never done before, so I decided to do some research on Google and brickshelf. There I found @Erik Leppen's mini version of the 42009 crane in the same scale I was going to be building. I highly recommend this build, I learned a lot from this model and you can see it influenced my build quite a bit. Here is a link to this awesome model. I have the majority of the chassis completed and I figured I would show some progress on the build. I can not believe how "on scale" this is turning out to be. The only thing that is a little off is the rear outriggers, but I had to do that to keep the length of the model accurate. I only have to figure out the turntable mechanism and then I can move onto the superstructure of the crane. The functions that I have right now are: extending outriggers and raising the outrigger. The knobs to operate the functions are removable, I only had them installed to show where I operate things from. I had planned for the rear steering axle, but I was running out of room to have the steering mechanism run to the fifth wheel so that the steering was controlled by the steering of the truck. Let me know what you think, the good, the bad, the ugly, I want to hear it. Also, if you think that using Eriks model as inspiration I much as I did was bad, let me know. Thanks for looking, I hope you like the progress!

I normally do not buy H1 sets... when are they normally officially put for sale? In time for Christmas? Or after? -
42078 - Mack Anthem
aminnich replied to AndroTech's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I am going to say the builder needed them for the B-model and decided just to add them into the A-model even though they are not necessary. -

Do you think it is the same width as 42024? -

Do we have a replica of the MACK truck yet -
Ok so with the release on the MACK pictures I need to do some rethinking. The plan was to use the MACK as the truck of this MOC, but it has different size tires than anticipated, so I need to build smaller, no pf.... will be a first completely non-motorized MOC for me of decent quality (hopefully) this means going back to the drawing board and redoing everything. But I can add lego bricks to get better curvature since the MACK has them included.

The Mack truck... finally. Looks really good, the addition of bricks helps get the right curves on the truck. The trailer is interesting, but I'm glad it isn't just a flatbed or enclosed trailer. But please tell me, WHY do they have those green accents on the trailer!! No need. Sure they look good on the B-model, but come on, an all grey truck and then you had green... Talking about the b model, I will be buying 2 of this set so I can have both build at once. IMO this is the best b-model so far! It isn't just a set that looks thrown together. -

62.4 tires on the MACK, that would be excellent
