42078 - Mack Anthem
aminnich replied to AndroTech's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This is only true is the scale of the truck is correct compared to the container. I can not find the proper width of the Anthem truck, but I did find a comparable truck, the Granite truck by MACK Fender to fender is 101.5 inches or 8.45 feet. Compared to the model truck's width 15L. So I get a ratio scale of 1:6.76 So the container itself is actually a little bit thinner than the truck (probably because of wide fenders), but as for length, I get that the Technic model should be 94L long and 13.5L wide (13 might be easier than 14). So yes, it is a large technic box, I will not disagree with you on that one And I am not trying to correct you, your calculations were very close. Just for one side, you would need 18 5x11 panels x 4 = 72 panels + 4ish panels for the doors, 76ish panels in total just for a box haha EDIT: Here is a rough mockup of what I am talking about, those tires are the same as on the MACK, the trailer still looks too long -

Are you sure that is right? That looks really long. I am guessing the container by itself is the given size? Have you calculated out what the dimensions of that container is? -

The plan is to make the truck a day cab with a container trailer. -

Ya I guess I didnt really think of that. After I modify the trailer, the steering location will definitely be a problem. -

steering location for the truck is awful, how are we suppose to steer with the container on the trailer?? -

How does the mechanism work to connect to the container? If we know this, I think we could start modifying the container to better suit using a machine like this. Also, just my opinion, but if someone is going to be modifying the trailer, really the arms should be removed. With it being an American truck, the European style trailer does not look right. I know I know, what I just said contradicts what I said about my trailer for the MACK, but still. A 53-foot trailer (single container) is pretty much standard here in the States. -

All this concern over if the panels are the same color... just release the MACK truck already!! -
Axle Collection Thread

How would that work with the axle I have posted above?? Looks completely different to me. -

I never planned on powering that axle, that is why I designed it the way I did. The only reason I used the Ball Joint Large Open with C-Shape Pivot Frame was for another pivot point with a solid base. It probably could have been done a little bit differently without that part, but I thought this worked well for my application. To power this axle, I feel like a bunch of modifications would have to be made, BUT it could be powered. -

Of course it could be. Each axle would be independently driven. If you want the file, I could send it to you -
Now that I see what it looks like with an extra stud on both sides, I think the thinner version looks better. With the addition of the 1x5 lift arm, the bodywork does not flow as nicely.

RC4WD Wheel Adapters
aminnich replied to Blakbird's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
that price is insane. $60 for the set of adapters, then the costs of wheels and tires. You could easily be looking at $150 for everything. -

These are the kinds of things that TLG isn't thinking about, combining sets for scene or something on a shelf. That would have been cool to have the B-model handling the container from the MACK truck. I am sure there are other instances that could have happened, but none come to mind. -
Scale Modeling Building Help

I am wondering what you guys think the best width of a MOC is using the 62.4 tires? 17L? 19L? -

@Cumulonimbus Changing the length of the trailer to accommodate a longer container would be the first mod I would do. -

I do not know why the MACK truck is not on the same scale as the Mercedes truck. I think it would have been cool to have them on a shelf together, but now I think it would look dumb. If someone were to recreate the model using the larger wheels and tires, I think that you could really get some nice curvature, sure the LEGO model does a decent job at getting the right curves, but on a larger scale, you can get even closer to the real model's features. -

Street Buggy (MOC)
aminnich replied to Aventador2004's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
You come up with models very quickly. I will say that I thought your last MOC was better, but I think your biggest problem is not having a wide selection of parts, which is not a problem. You make do with what you have very well. Nice job, keep doing what you are doing!- 14 replies
