Technic 2017 Set Discussion
zux replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
With all this "067" talks I can't see how off-road tow truck could relate to some (old) sports car. Imagine how is going to look - it just doesn't make sense. You have quite high standards. I find 42022 well built for it size as well as 42030. LEGO isn't die-cast models, so gaps, especially in Technic are something you should expect. -
I like how some sites (New Elementary especially) use brackets for clarification i.e. Medium Stone Grey [TLG], Light Bluish Gray [BL] to note the colour. Some may know, but not another.

Meh, not another 911 please. -
You can still buy these on Bricklink.

WTF, people are easily offended and trying to find problems with everything these days.

[WIP] Peugeot 106
zux replied to syclone's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Mid-enginemotor front wheel hatch? Awesome!. Like how tiny suspension is. Building Technic model without panels is totally fine. I could only suggest revising model's front (especially hood-grille section), as it doesn't relate to P106 much, sadly. -
I'm sorry if that sounded like insult, just getting sick of these "best, fastest, ***est" posts every other week that are far from reality most of the time. Now that you have specified uniqueness of your model - front suspension, I think I won't be the only one who would love to see more pictures of it! The bottom aka "the most important" picture would be nice to see as well.

Great looking Tatra! How much weight can it carry? I would highly doubt it (proofs 1, 2) unless you have specific conditions

Holy Grail: Managed to get most of the sets I really wanted since getting out of dark age. However still missing 8466 and both sets with micromotors - 8480 with 8082. Last two are hard to find in good condition as many parts are simply destroyed (yellowing, cracked cables, jammed motors) by time. I also got interested in some other, non-Technic sets, so old modulars, Maersk train and 5571 Model Team would be a great addition. Dream set/part: Proper supercar with @allanp's list of must-have's. From part point of view I'd love to have full selection of parts in basic colours. And of-course proper LEGO RC system! Regret: There's nothing I could regret I think. Most of the sets and parts other members have listed in HG section are already purchased.

Bricklink Inventory and wanted list
zux replied to iNsAnE_Asterix's topic in General LEGO Discussion
You are looking at the wrong place - the list of carts. You have to open the actual cart in the shop you put your items in - probably just click on required item in a list. Or open the shop (where you've been placing items in your cart) and check the bottom of cart there. -

Sure. Open your cart and scroll to the very bottom where you'll find "Add to Wanted List" button. -
Need Help Constructing the Right Wheels
zux replied to silentsoul0309's topic in General LEGO Discussion
It's either this or this wheel. I don't have any of them, but assume the larger (last one) was used in MOC above. -
Can't wait to have time to build it! Looking forward the learning experience this model delivers.

The right one is newer rim version. It was a transition time for these rims while 8110, 9398 and 42000 were released, so you can find these sets with both versions.

The LEGO Group takes civil actions against LEPIN
zux replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Umm, what is so special about it? There are more people chroming parts too. Those renders are tricky, I don't think chromed parts were replicated, more likely pearl-like (in terms of BL colour naming) parts are used. -
Alternatively, you can use LDCad (to build a LDraw model), which you could find a bit more friendly, as it has brick snap option, unlike MLCad.
-
LPub doesn't create steps by itself, it just display the ones you've created while designing a model. If you just build a model (without your own steps) LPub will just simply show a single picture. Which application do you use to create your model?

I have recently bought two 8293 sets, which contain the switch in question. There was the new version, obviously. Switch has same "2007" copyright date on bottom, which hasn't changed since then. Production numbers on switches state 38N6 and 40N6, while the both boxes have 06S7. This states switches were produced late last year, but boxes early this year.

Unfortunately, the switch without the pole reverser is the latest edition. Old ones had pole reverser, new ones - don't. Not sure when, but this was already mentioned, LEGO is no longer produce old ones, so if you are not happy with replacement you can return the set back. I know this doesn't make sense, but all you can do now is to look for older version in sets or BL.

So you can already open your LDR file with LPub3D? If you indeed can do this you just need to check your existing LDraw directory specified in LPub3D preferences and copy that to LPub4.

Have you installed LDraw part library contents?

Thanks! I've considered building second modular with profile bricks at the very beginning. Found it wouldn't look very well as there are lot of odd distances. My idea is to rebuild it later with plates (once my LUGBULK arrive later this year). Funny thing about medium blue house in last model - it looks like this because I didn't have required number of brick in medium blue, thus had to improvise. I love and hate it Good point regarding a roof. I don't remember why I made decision keeping it DBG.

What happens when you agree with your LUG members to build three modulars each to start a City layout? You build them! Disclaimer. I'm a Technic guy, so building with normal bricks was a funny and interesting (and expensive!) challenge I've accepted. The idea was to have three modulars built on 32*32 baseplates with at least three floors each. I've immediately came up with ideas for first two buildings. But the story comes in three stages. Modular #1 - Office (aka LitLUG Headquarters) The very first modular had to be an office-like building. It ended up looking like standard squarish building you can imagine an office could be. The nice thing is that it can be easily expanded in height, which I'd love to do in the future. The back side is plain and has nothing interesting to see. It was the time I found out challenge I've accepted isn't going to be cheap simply because I don't have many bricks. Despite building being simple there final cost for the bricks was already higher than I assumed it would cost. Modular #2 - A replica of a building in Vilnius This was easy to decide - I really wanted to build this house in LEGO for a long time and I didn't have tight budget on this to implement a dream. This house is located in Vilnius (Lithuania) and has been built over a hundred years ago - in 1912. The district it is located is well known for more fancy houses built in that time. Luckily building has decent proportions and fits into 32 studs nicely. There were quite a lot of challenges for me (as a Technic guy) - facade isn't flat, 3 stud wide windows, some other odd features and of course the roof. Oh and the wall covering the roof - it turns out building sideways was the only way I could achieve the right angle without major holes. Since I don't have right bricks I've built the model using LDCad. This helped me not to overspent money on unnecessary bricks, just build and buy required parts. I know there is no collision detections in LDCad, but I'm pretty used to understanding the parts, so there were no issues building the models with real brick later on. While the building looks to be fineshed at this moment there things I'm not totally happy with so it must be revised some time in the future. Modular #3 - The ugly duckling I've already blew my budget on just two of three buildings, so I had to improvise here. This model wen't through numerous revisions - it went from houses you can find in Amsterdam (pretty, but expensive) to ugly-ugly ones (and still not budget friendly, doh!). I've made an extensive research on official Modulars and other people MOC's looking for ideas. And this is what I ended up with. Not the prettiest, but certainly not that ugly. I also got lucky to acquire LEGO store 10145 set, which became a part of my modular. Fun fact - this modular actually contain a duckling! You can clearly see one composed of white and dark orange bricks with that tiny balcony. It wasn't discovered until I made this picture: In conslusion, I'm happy I took part in building these three modulars. This was fun experience. Coming from Technic it was much easier to build with bricks in general - you just stack them from bottom to the top, but it gets tough when it comes to aesthetics. Unlike in Technic MOCs you must micromanage each aspect of the building making sure it looks the way you need it to look. The lack of some odd key parts didn't help either and I had to check many things with real bricks first. Fortunately new 2x2 macaroni tiles got released in time - modular would look slightly different without them! Behind fun part of this challenge comes the nasty one - expenses. Initially I had roughly estimated (without pre-calculations) how much this would cost me. It happens, I've based my calculations (roughly) keeping in mind the facade and roof only, but you still have two-three more walls to build! 1 x 6 x 5 panels turned out to be the most cost effective solution. This was, partially, the reason why my modulars are just modular-like - you cannot disassemble them floor-by-floor. Due to reasons above interior wasn't designed and built at this stage as well. Hope you like it. Oh and I'd be happy you would share your thoughts how can these models could be improved. More pictures in my Flickr album.
