Technic 2017 Set Discussion
Seasider replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Interesting initial list, not sure what I'd purchase from this. The boat is interesting. It could be "boaty mcboatface" ! As to the rc racer I immediately had either a formula ford type car or a Ariel atom spring to mind. But of most importance is what is the mysterious brick ? And are the different in each set which means you need to collect all the 2017 sets -
When do we normally hear about H1 sets ? Surely the big 2017 sets will be H2 like this year ? I'm always a fan of cars (well i do work in the industry), but I'd like a bin lorry (lots of moving bits), a CLAAS Combine to go with the Xerion would be good. As to a "Halo" product it would be difficult to do i think after such a great year or 2. I think generally Technic is in a very good state. I'd love it if they combined the Lego Technic and Star Wars Anniversaries to create something special

any news on when we can be expecting a competition Jim ? wondering if i start building and MODding the CLAAS or wait to dive both feet into a new competition -
Great review Jim. Opened my box last night and just went wow at its contents. I normally don't put stickers on my models as my parts usually then end up in containers but I honk this set is very special. As I've said before I also plan to do some modding on it, trying to change colours of pins etc and would love to do the double wheel (muddy field) mod and perhaps ditch the front PTO ... Let's wait and see

42054 - Claas Xerion 5000 Trac VC
Seasider replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Collected mine from Tesco today now I'm back in the uk. Not travelling for work for the next couple of weeks so hopefully will get some time to build it ... And then MOD it ... Thinking of changing colour or connectors, removing front PTO, manual cab rotation and if I remove the power function can I get a fake engine/drivetrain in -

just ordered one on Click & Collect ... but can't collect till Friday as I'm just off on a business trip. wonder when Tesco realise they should be selling it for £119 ! Was tempted to buy 2 sets just for the wheels alone ... but managed to resist as I can use the savings to either complete my MCU minifigure collection or purchase the Creator Beetle -
anyone know about replacing friction pins with non-friction pins ? I was thinking when i get my Claas to perhaps do an exercise and swap out the blue pins for black or grey equivalents, depending upon what colour beams they are seen through, but i know the grey are non-friction pins so i was wondering what that would mean to model stability. Any thoughts ?

Used this a few times to get rough scales but one thing I never worked out is how to interpret the wheelbase. The wheelbase is the distance between the 2 axles, so when using the scaler and for example the wheelbase comes up as 11, and front and rear overhangs as 5 each for example how many studs would that be between the axle pins in Lego and in front and behind then an axle goes at a stud location which you're not measuring ? Or do people take half a stud off their calculation ? So the number of studs between axle pins in this case would be 10 with 4.5 studs as front and rear overhangs from the axle ?

[PORSCHE] Porsche 914
Seasider replied to LegoDego's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Wow ! Any chance of an Ldd file for this ? This is my favourite Porsche, I almost bought one a few years back, I did actually try to build one for this competition but couldn't solve the problem of the rear suspension and drivetrain. I do agree the roof could be a stud or 2 lower- 11 replies

Great review Sariel This was on my wish list as soon as I saw it, now it's on my definite list! Class colours work well in Technic and looking forward to the PTO accessory thread on here. Oh the front on the model is the counter balance. Used on lots (if not all) tractors to offset the weight of the stuff on the rear etc Wonder what it would look like without all the nasty blue and red pins/axles ... I can see a refined model coming along Definitely the flagship model of 2016 for me

Hi Jim, I agree ... Would like to know about the new wheels and tyres. Also would like to know what it has for a PTO and connection points for tools, for those of us who want to create different attachments -
Hi all, I want to build a PF tracked vehicle. I've got lots of different size motors and bought a load of large track pieces and the gear wheel but have no idea where to start. So can someone point me in what direction I need to start with. Where and how do I need suspension ? If I use a large motor per track what's a good gearing for it? Do I need a clutch gear on there, can I mount the motors at 90deg to the tracks to minimise width ? I'm after a crawler excavator type vehicle if it helps Thanks

SBrick General Discussion
Seasider replied to Nofer89's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi, Ok having seen the front page article on this I went to the store and then here to find 23 pages of stuff. What I couldn't find on the store is what a 2 in 1 or a 4 in 1 is compared to the standard sbrick. I think it's 2 sbricks in 1 box etc ? I couldn't find any text to describe the differences on the website- 780 replies

Attempt 1 was approx 1:8 scale but couldn't get the suspension, steering or diff to work on the narrow width. Attempt 2 with unimog wheels ... I had a lovely front and rear suspension sub models working and then suddenly realised it was a bit big. Not feeling the love so not sure if there will be an attempt no 3

Now that blackbird and jim have worked out how to fix the gearbox and the amazing mod for removing the body I'm more tempted by this model. just the sticking point of the price ... don't think i can justify the extra ~£100 over the CLAAS thats due soon. In terms of the Chassis is it worth converting any more of it to different colours ? eg grey beams to black, yellow knob wheel to black, etc
