Multiple motor drive systems
Seasider replied to Seasider's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'm aware of the gear torque vs speed issue. But I'd notice a few MOCs that use multiple motors for the drive. Curious how they are linked or not -
Got the PF bug now so thinking of making an MOC and I know a lot of people use multiple motors. So excluding the rc buggy motor what is a good motor set up if I wanted to make a "fast" rwd vehicle, pictures most appreciated. I have multiples of most modern technic motors except the rc motor which I don't have at all. And I have a good selection of gears, suspension arms, u joints and hubs/knuckles (bits that attach the wheels) So suggestions please

Generic Contest Discussion
Seasider replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I think the idea for a eurobricks staff awarded prize rather than just top 3 is a good idea. Also the pneumatic should be totally electricity free. For me I like the idea of the varied competitions as it keeps my mind fresh ! -
I took part as its a challenge to build to a set of rules. Didn't enter because there was a prize ... Just for glory ... Or lack there of !

24. Tractor This is my first PF/Remote MOC and I'm pretty proud of it as it all works as planned. It's a litle agricultural in its design (pun intended). Enjoy ... Functions: 1 Large Motor - Drive 1 Servo Motor - Steering 1 Medium Motor - PTO On/Off 1 Medium Motor - PTO Lift Arms Raise/Lower Pictures: Controller : (From Left to Right) Drive, Steering, PTO On/Off, PTO Raise/Lower Link to WIP Thread: http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=104180

Which is stronger?
Seasider replied to nerdsforprez's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
CSA vs l The short connector piece has a very good torsional stiffness. The 2l red axle has notches in it so has sectional weakness. The only issue is possible weakness with an increased number of connections -
My problem is biweekly trips to Germany for work and weekend trips to see the girlfriend. And what a weekend to finish on Valentine's ! So that means no build time Friday night or all of Saturday !

Getting there with my model. Only got the battery to reposition, and the lift to fit. Then it's just a case of deciding pto machinery and some beautification of the model. I'll defintiely post an entry thread on a valid model, just might not be complete ! Defintiely won't be as pretty as some of the amazing entries so far. Video will definitely be crude!

It'll be a MOT (my own tractor) not going to make it look like anything in particular. Will be a modern style. But my dad will hate me as it'll most probably have red on it and he used to work for the blue tractor company ! I'm guessing I need to upload the video to YouTube then ? I can't post videos via photo bucket ?

Time for a long overdue update ... Firstly this was the still-born project of the 6 wheel monster So then as of last Sunday I tore it up and started on the TC6 project again with a tractor Firstly getting the engine/drivetrain to work - medium (?) motor linked to the drive and also driving the 4 cylinder engine too Offset steering - using a Servo motor Drive and Steering working so time for a test ! ... and it worked Added the PTO shaft and 3rd motor to engage/disengage the PTO 4th and final motor added to raise and lower the rear hitch So now I'm building a second chassis which will hopefully be more refined than this one to hold it all together nicely, i've already got the battery positioned :) . Then its a case of putting some 'trim' on it in terms of a cab, an engine cover and some arches ... oh and deciding what to use the PTO for ! But the challenge is getting it built in time as I'm off away on business all next week ! But this is one project I'm determined to finish even if i don't make the deadline. So how do I post videos ? They'll be taken using an iphone

42040 Fire Plane
Seasider replied to timtimgo87's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
i like the look of the plane from that shot. only bought the buggy from the H1 sets as i collect those vehicles, don't like the end result for the le mans car ... which is a shame as i love le mans! might buy the merc truck though, depends on the b model though ! -
Couple of quick bits of advice sought Do people use the servo motor in general for steering as it offers return to centre or is there another option ? Secondly if I wanted a function where I used a motor to engage or disengage the sliding gears on a constantly rotating shaft (red slider with red lever into dark grey gear) any advice on this in terms of setup and motor to use ?

I was using the unimog/volvo wheels/tyres. As you say possibly too much grip ! I've tried it on a tiled floor and carpet. Carpet is useless but now its struggling on the tiles too ! Was thinking of building some tractor but it sure what functions 3 & 4 would be! Ps you've got to love big trak (I was born in the 70s)

I'm having a nightmare with my MOC. Can't get it to skid steer so I guess I'm missing something in terms of how they fundamentally work ... I can design a car in the real world, just can't design a skid steer ... But then I'm a body engineer and not a powertrain/chassis one! Not got a lot of love for the model now as it's frustrating me So might abandon it and try something else, but no idea if I'll get it done in time (travelling from work & hopefully moving home) ... And I need to work out what to do instead as I'd like to do something different to the rest and I want the functions to be a big "play" feature ... Sorry but I don't like the idea of brakes and gears being functions (no offence intended to those who've done that) I'll try and post pics of my monster on Sunday night when I'm home.

Technic Pub
Seasider replied to jantjeuh's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Front end looks a lot like the recent lambo asterion concept, love the tightness of the rear end design. As to the power plant a v6 with elec motor assist is obviously to promote hybrid power systems. Ps another automotive engineer here ... CAE is my topic -
EB event 2015, 4-7 June, Windsor UK Sign-Up topic

Would love to come along to the event, but most probably only the Saturday if that's possible. -
Well I thought long and hard what I wanted to build for this, wanted to start something brand new. I decided against something aeronautical as I wanted something purely remote control! I thought about building something odd like a snake ! Then I thought about something like a forklift, but then I remembered how much I loved a Big Trak when I was a kid. So I'm going to build my own lego version of this ... Well sort of. It'll have 6 wheels, be skid steer, it's going to have a tipping bed on the back, not sure on the 4th function yet! Not sure what it'll look like yet either So a quick q for all you PF gurus out there. I've only build the Boss and Volvo with remote PF to date so I'm after some help. Apart from size what's the difference between the motors. And when should I use a clutch gear thing, the White gear ?

Can you post the dimensions of an s brick in the rules so we can make a space for it as it says the model must be ready for an s brick ... Or if we place 2 ir units side by side is that the same size and attachment ? Also on the 4 function motor thing, if you went for a tracked of skid steer does that count as 2 functions. I think it does, I think your intention is for separate functions and this fits that. As with a car you'd have drive and steering, with a tracked you have drive to 2 tracks, so both the same

Missed the voting window as work has been hectic, but a good selection of winners. If I'd have got round to voting I would have given Doc the thumbs up.

Here's my discussion thread. I spent a long time staring at a pile of booklets from all my suitable sets and just couldn't decide on anything. So then I thought I'd buy a current set (always a good excuse) and built something from that. So I chose the 42022 Hot Rod to see what I could do. So here it is a Can-Am Style Race Car, moderately proud of it and managed to use a good amount of the parts. Piccies ... The bits left over ... ... and the original set
