  1. Yes the roll hoops are a little low compared to my real car so that's on the list of planned mods. i also want to put a black 1x2 behind the upper part of the headlamps so you get a consistent backing to them. but I'm trying to work out how to mod the boot lid, still not happy with it. theres a few other little tweaks to do too and some parts to hope that they one day appear in the colour I want. the aluminium parts in the engine bay do look good. I wanted the rocker cover to look distinct. The car also has Alu pedals, radiator core and a chrome exhaust box and exit pipe. All bought off a store on bricklink. Weren't cheap but I think they were worth it.
  2. If I get time after TC11 I'll make a parts list and then I'll MOD. ill dig my Chassis out at some point this week and compare it to your photos
  3. @Andy D I haven't finished mine. I got to an impasse where I couldn't work out how a few things were mounted so I abandoned the project to work on the TC11 and a Model Team style MX-5. i think I'll download the instructions and compare to my model to see how good and bad I was. in terms of mods, I'd like the seats to be the same shape. Also I like colours to flow so it'll be those sorts of things to change for me. I don't have any of the 3 original models. But if I like the Anniversary model enough I might buy the bricks to have it as a display model (most probably in my modified version).
  4. The instructions are available ! Off to find them now ... Did you see my thread where I tried to make this from the photos and video ? I need to finish the TC11 entry first but then I'll come back to this and most probably MOD it
  5. Well it's finished ... sort of it's like a real project car after all I made a few tweaks to the original set, first of all the colour scheme ... ... removed front and rear number plates, changed the backing of the rear lamps to red ... ... changed the seat headrest shape, added the "Radio" tile, and some roll hoops ... ... some nice custom coated bricks in aluminium (rocker cover, pedals, brake discs and radiator) and chrome (exhaust) ... ... side by side with the Caterham ... and the reason for me doing this ...
  6. There's no right click or ctrl-v on an iPhone ! ok I've tried to edit and failed can a mod help? If not it'll be Sunday when I can get to a pc
  7. So here's my entry so far (if the links work on my phone) ... I set myself a few rules from the start. I don't have any buggy motors, I wanted something small(ish) and it wasn't going to be a mass of grey bricks and panels. final weapon is still to be decided but some spinny thing Initial Chassis sizing ... Case compared to 45x45 box ... Starting to fill the box ...
  8. Not sure if I'm going to be able to enter this, work is chaos at the moment, I'm trying to apply (after a very long time) for my IMechE Membership and also my weekend toy (MX-5) is sick and needs some TLC! If I can find the odd hour or 2 here and there I'll try, won't be as left-field as i normally do though !
  9. nice MOD so far but the front wing needs to be flatter/more pointy, the rear tyres need to be significantly wider than the front and the "dorsal blade" needs to be added behind the airbox to make it look more like a 2017 car
  10. Thanks for sharing this. I've been to the museum twice and it's a great place with interesting architecture, it's fantastically laid out and they change a couple of main areas in it. I've seen displays on concept cars and 959s. the roads over by weissach (the village you took pictures in could be there?) are great. oh I go there quite a bit for my work :)
  11. It's true with the real Robot Wars in the uk too. Quite often even the robot that should technically win on paper doesn't in the ring. id say just vote as we normally do
  12. Sounds like a great competition. Not too sure how much PF stuff I have lying around as I've just given my dad the Volvo to play with, can't exactly pop by as he's a few hundred miles away and not due to see him till after deadline. But I'll definitely build something, I'm sure I can come up with some madness within the deadline Loved Robot Wars when it was on (and even the new series) ... 3, 2, 1 ... Activate !
  13. Well my bricklink orders have come in but I'm at an impasse. i can't work out how a few things mount or what a few bricks I can see in the images are for. but also something more interesting has come along ... in the shape of BrickMonkeys Miata/MX-5. so I'll pick this up again after then ... or in the summer when the instructions come out and I'll just do a MOD
  14. The extreme adventure is growing on me but I just keep on wondering what it would look like on a set of wheels. if it has an interesting b model I may buy it
  15. Thanks for the info on the colours, might have a play with them. I think for some of the turntables I might try the clear discs instead. its going to take me a while as I'm busy with work. So could be at least a month till my version
  16. I'll definitely share my pics when done. This means I'm abandoning my Technic 40th Anniversary Chassis reverse engineer project. Another question, how easy do you think it will be to make all the "body" parts of the car car coloured as opposed to black. I mean the interior of the boot, engine bay and the underbody, but without effecting how much colour seeps into the cabin area ? oh and another one, is the use of the 2x2 gray turntable discs because they are nice and shallow
  17. Thanks I'll download them tomorrow. I'll be doing a few mods. Mines a J Limited 2 and so is yellow with a black screen surround. Also running on black wheels and being a eunos I also have a square rear plate but a uk front one, so a couple of mods there. Oh and it has the separate headrests and some Audi TT style hoops to try and add too. once again great model. Looking forward to building it
  18. That's beautiful, do you know if the exterior parts are all available in Yellow ... if so I see a MOC purchase and Bricklink order coming on !
  19. Update from me. I've made some good progress and now I'm at this stage ... ... with these bits left from my (non)complete parts bin ... ... so where am I ? Well I have the steering worked out, the seats do slide fore/aft (with friction) but I have a detail on them still to fix, I have the gearbox sort of sorted in that i have the gears working and driving the engine I just haven't connected it to the wheels yet. Things to work out: How the dash is mounted - I'm hoping the front curved panels help me unlock this (waiting in the post for this) How the gearbox is ultimately mounted - its a bit floaty at the moment and bendy in the middle where the Blue 3L beams are How the engine is attached - I need to remove the long Black beams currently there, I think these go under the seats? How the rear suspension lower arms are attached and how the rear wheels are connected to the engine - i have some thoughts on this just need some time How the exhausts and rear detailing are attached to the engine Well that's it for now, next update will be Sunday or early next week. Enjoy
  20. I prefer the mouth on your red one. Oh and mine has a black windscreen surround as I have a J-Limited 2. I like the door on the yellow, would it be possible to put curved bricks on the top of the door too, i think then you'd have a good representation of the door shape.
  21. Hello all, Firstly please indulge me for a while, at my desk at work I have this little display ... ... the MCU Heroes (plus Bucky if you look carefully). I work in the Engineering Design office for a well known Car company and its not unusual to see Lego on display at peoples desks, especially mini-figures (mainly star wars I may add or something relevant to the person eg all the Scots). But I'm more a Technic fan, mini-figs are down to my love of Marvel films. So why this thread ? Well I'm a little unsure about buying any of the 2017 sets, none of them were grabbing my attention and urging me to buy them. I did however build this from the bricks I had in my collection as I already had 90% of what I needed so it only too a small Bricklink purchase ... ... it's great fun by the way. But when the H2 videos and images appeared something grabbed my attention, the 40th Anniversary Chassis / Combination model, I won't put an image here as there's plenty in the 2017 set thread. I have the original set as part of my "Classic" Technic collection from when I was a lot younger, its in pieces at the moment and I don't think I have the complete model anymore (something to Bricklink later) ... I like the 40th Anniversary Chassis, I think it's quite a nice little model and a good replacement for the MCU guys on my desk, as I said I work in a Car company, my main interest is Technic and the model doesn't look that big so I think it ticks a lot of boxes. But why I have named this a [MOD] thread, well my long term plan is this ... in good engineering traditions I'm going to try and reverse engineer the display set, I might then try and create an LDD of this, and then finally I'm going to "improve" it, by making some of the colours better and a few other things along the way, but more on that later. So where do we start, well the logical place is this ... ... these are the parts from the 3 sets (42057, 42061 & 42063), well actually thats a big lie! You'll notice I'm missing a few parts, some deliberate and some as I don't have them. Firslty you'll notice no bike wheels, propellor blades, boom arm or tapered curved panels as none of these appear in the chassis set (I've got 3 of the light grey fender/seat curved panel on their way to me via a Bricklink order, along with a "40th" brick), also you'll notice I don't have 45 5L light grey beams from the BMW. Looking at the pictures of the chassis I can't see 45 of them being used, so the 20 that I have will have to surfice. What's also very apparent at this point is there are going to be a lot of parts left over, especially our friend the black pin. Oh and I had to do some colour subsitutions, and I'm missing the dark brown axles with stop (also on order) So where have I got to and what have i discovered so far ... Front Bumper and Dash, the bumper is complete and I'm now looking into how the steering works, the obvious answer is via a tie link from 42057 Seats, as you'll notice the driver and passenger seats are different due to there only being 3 of the cranked red beams. My plan for the [MOD] version is to make the seats the same for both and also to make them completely red, I might even try to add some adjustment to them (but that may be a step too far for me). Engine and rear suspension, starting from what I can see on the top and working down and assuming a few things this is where i've got to with the rear. Oh there's a second "40th" brick at the rear of the car too (I guess like a rear number plate), shame I found this out after my Bricklink order! So whats next, well I'm now working on the tunnel/gearbox area, basically I'm working through the images and using what I can see to gradually use up the beams that I have in the pile. Good old process of elimination. I can see a grey frame hiding under the chassis but there isn't a "money shot" (underside view) of the chassis available as yet so it might take some detective work to deduce which of the frames are being used and where. It's going to take me some time to do, but I've got until August (I'm guessing) when the proper instructions get issued ? I may use this thread for requesting help on where and how bits go, but not yet so please don't give me pointers. Oh and it's all Jim's fault ! Well that's my excuse ... actually I couldn't be bothered to start my Porsche (including the additional 30 pieces) or modify the CLAAS and Jim hasn't started the next competition. So I'll blame him :)
  22. 42069 is growing on me too, but each time I look at it I wish it was on wheels rather than tracks, a bit like an extreme Landy or an "arctic truck" spec Landcruiser. i might wait and see how this turns out and what functions it has, and importantly its price point
  23. Not a bad attempt to capture the shape of the car. I agree it could do with some curve along its side too but in this scale I guess it's difficult. i wonder if all those bricks are available in yellow ? Then I could make my car :)
  24. I'm hoping Jim starts the next competition soon so then we can all start moaning about the rules like we usually do instead of talking about the H2 2017 sets ... ?
