  1. Yay! Pandufuses! It will be fab to see you all
  2. Soundtrack The G-MIL SportFli XVI is a top performing civilian speeder-bike. Favoured by the Authority Deployment Unit of District 18 since model IX. With a few modifications after-market (strictly restricted to the District 18 police) the sport bike becomes the Compliance. Outranking all other bikes in its class, it is a valuable tool for law enforcement. This one was a lot more of an exercise in self control. I get a little carried away with shoving in details that can increase the size to something more of a tank than a speeder bike. While I have enjoyed making speeders from the motorcycle fairing for a fair few years. (Nine by the looks of it... Or ten. ) I just love throwing in more and more parts. So, I pared it down to what you see here. I love to sneak Castle elements into SF builds and couldn't resist the helmet. I think speeder bikes still need to have a "bike-ness" to them, which can be lost without the wheels, so popping in the helmet fills the space and looks futuristic. Another great thing building this bike and the others for the contest was discovering how all the cool elements that have arrived since I last was really able to MOC (been a bit stuck for space and opportunity for about eighteen months). I have a number of other bikes I made when testing concepts and connections that I will share soon. Hope you like the MOC.
  3. I love the race-car guy. He comes complete with the Rocket Racer logo from the popular LEGO Racers video games. I certainly plan on getting quite a few Dragons and Unicorns and some Elephant Girls for the mouse! Thanks for another excellent review.
  4. Do we have a building contest this year?
  5. There has been a bit of a hiccup with the forum upgrades (you might have noticed the down time yesterday) so it may be part of the problems that flagged to admin that things didn't go precisely as planned.
  6. Overstock is never good, it does result in the retailers selling off sets at a lower price just to clear shelf space. (Great for us fans, not so good for a business), You also have the case of failure on the part of retailers. Toys R Us is a major seller of LEGO but as we all saw, they have gone under and will be winding up and closing down. Add in the fact that LEGO lines are competing with themselves within the product bracket, then against other toys and toys as a whole are competing with video games... It is a tough market and over-saturation means loss on profit.
  7. I was not quite old enough for Zoids 2 (Dad got a kit on a knockdown price and I had it about five years later) and I was a teenager when the Zoids that linked to the anime were on their last legs (loads of clearance bargains...) Now I am always on the lookout for NIB kits and hoping for a relaunch!
  8. The Double-Dome delivery bike is a very popular model for all kinds of logistical purposes with interchangeable modules for any purpose. The Velo Glace has been modified with a freezer module for ice-cream storage and delivery. The idea I had in mind for this was the sort of 50s American idyll that is so very easy to subvert (especially if you know your history). Used in the likes of Fallout and an aesthetic from a number of Utopia that is not what it seems stories. I was inspired to make an ice-cream speederbike after coming across an Ice-Cream Tuk Tuk in Criccieth when I was in north Wales on holiday last year. The “lift” provided from the trans-blue minifig head elements is also a nod to electric milk-floats, the idea I have for this vehicle is that is moves about as fast as one for safety. The additions of little pop-outs (The shell, croissant and round 1x1 tiles) are a callback to the Art Deco ice cream parlours and the like. All in all, I am happy how this one came out. Bonus! - I have uploaded a tree MOC that resembles the one here. The real-build tree had to be modified for required angles on the MOC.
  9. Ooo, things to look forward too! Yay I'll add: Per the usual I get into Billund by about 10:30am on arrival day, so if anyone else is getting in close (or even on the same flight from Amsterdam) I'm up for hanging out after a power-nap.
  10. What don't I buy? I collect the odd Hotwheels car and plenty of action figures. I love Zoids, anime plush toys and trading figures. Add all the neat toys I pick up from time to time... I have a lot of toys!
  11. Thanks for the awesome music link \m/ . I appreciate judges have to stay neutral until the closing date.
  12. Soundtrack The rebels of District 18: A force for change? Terrorists who challenge the rightful authority? Or just some Punk Kids playing around on tooled up speeder bikes? While certain news centres would have it that they are set on bringing about the end of society, most of these kids on custom bikes are just following an age-old path of bucking against the norm. Tuning up basic bikes and customising them into highly styled rides, groups fly the skyways and streets. Another favourite pass-time for the gangs is to race in the 'off code' zones, hitting high speeds and making dangerous manoeuvres. Few of their activities are criminal, though trespass and illegal modification of a speeder-bike are a common thread amongst the more prolific gangs. Leader of the most well known gang, The Rush, is Skeletique. A masked figure with a very recognisable bike, the spook trooper. A common sight at ride outs and street races. No one knows who he truly is, nor where he keeps such a magnificent machine. Custom built from the scrap, trash, flotsam and jetsam of District 18. The Spook Troop is a menacing machine known amongst speeder-punks for ricing prowess and wily manoeuvrability. He prefers to fly his bike in the desolate and abandoned platforms of the district when not leading a pack through the sky-ways and streets of the “civilised” city. Inspired by a crazy mix of things. Storm Hawks, Rush Runners which I came across by chance in a bargain store toy bin. Motor City which was far too short lived. A number of colourful SF comics from around the world (I collect SF art-books and comics) and the Bōsōzoku culture from Japan. Also, a whole lot of Celldweller and New Retro Wave music while I was building. (Not to mention the title track) With the LSB group contest launched I had an image of the figure I wanted to make for this ride and the idea of using the long bone elements and maybe a skull for the front of the bike. That design evolved as I was building when I realised just how cool the ghost looked at the front. With this bike hitting all the marks I set for myself, here it is!
  13. It is good to hear that people want more tag contests, they are fun to run and get people building. As for the reviews index, it is something I keep planning to overhaul...
  14. It may be that you had enough posts before, but a change on the forums now means community posts do not count towardspost totals. So those would have been taken from your post record.
  15. I am a moderator so I can wake up a thread from years ago So chaps, time to repeat the question: What do we want, what does Action and Adventure themes need? Does anyone have a preferred theme for the banner? What do we think of trying to index reviews again? (not that there are many these days). Any more suggestions? Have at thee!
  16. I want to get an overhaul of the forum again soon guys. I'm gonna go necromance the thread I made... I have a question: Does anyone have a resource of all the NEXO shields or at the very least high res images as I badly want the Axe of Merlok for a t-shirt...
  17. What browser are you using? Have you changed the posting mode at all? There are two edit modes for posting and one of them only generates the emoticons once you post.
  18. Yes, please do take it all over to the appropriate threads. Maybe there will be something that can count to us fans as a replacement for Nexo Knights, filling the slot in Action and Adventure. Maybe TLG have plans that fit elsewhere.
  19. As far as I am aware there are NDAs in place, but from the series I guess there was a building challenge somewhere as part of the process. My brother and I have applied too
  20. Cool beans! I'll be keeping my eye on the post Thanks Mike
  21. What a wonderful first post! That is an excellent little chopper that looks like it could have been a part of the Ice Planet theme. I particularly like the little details you've put in and the use of the tubing (I love some tubes in a SF MOC). The photo is not bad at all, phones have some good cameras these days. Thought there are plenty of tutorials out there if you feel the need to improve. Thanks for sharing and welcome to sharing things on EB!
  22. Ah, a good chunky space vehicle. I love these sorts of builds and Space Police always has such a nice colour palette to work with. A great build there, fresh but still with hints of the classic theme. A redux is always a fine line to walk and you've nailed it. It is too bad that it can't be played with too heartily.
  23. So a quick reminder: Yes, the ending of this theme does affect the production of related media, but can that discussion remain in the dedicated media thread.
  24. Alright then. Now at least everyone can stop complaining that the theme exists. Though I might have to crack open a beer and pull out some popcorn if whatever comes next is not the back-to-basics castle them everyone believes Nexo Knights is blocking. Just to remind before anything starts up: There are a few threads dedicated to speculating and wishing on new themes for Action and Adventure and within LEGO products as a whole. So there isn't a need to discuss potential replacements in here. Cheers.
  25. Indeed. There is a Beach set currently available with lots of beach going figures in beach appropriate clothing with seaside activities provided in the form of accessories and mini-builds. Right away we have a narrative restricted to the beach. However, the creator and the Building Bigger Thinking sets do not have a narrative context. So this makes for something more acceptable? All I can really get from all the arguments people are making in agreement with the topic is: "TLG are not producing sets I, an adult far from their target market, want". Toys have "required" a narrative for a long long time. Probably about the moment advertising was invented. This topic rears its head very often. In fact it honestly looks like originality is not wanted by AFOLs, rather some rehash of what they enjoyed as children/when they were younger. Agents should have been Alpha Team, Pharaoh's Quest needed to be Johnny Thunder again, Power Miners was supposedly better if it was Rock Raiders. Castle has never ever been any good since the 70s. The list goes on, but TLG are going to listen to market forces, not embittered nostalgic adults.
