Obviously everyone here buys LEGO and some of us even buy LEGO-compatible brands, but I was wondering if anyone buys toys that are neither. I came back to LEGO in 1993 through my hobby of collecting fantasy action figures (or 'dolls' as my fiancée calls them!). While I now have much more LEGO in my display collection than non-LEGO, I do still pick up the odd non-LEGO fantasy or super hero action figure now and again. In case you're wondering, I don't mix the two: my LEGO and non-LEGO collections are physically separate. I know that Jang, a prominent AFOL, buys other toy brands as he has reviewed some on his YouTube channel. So what non-LEGO and non-LEGO-compatible toys do you collect? Do you sometimes have to make tough choices between getting more LEGO and getting something else? How do you decide what to get/what not to get?

Fandom is quite a new word but it basically means what are you a fan of, in the contexts I've heard it used it refer to fictional series so really the question is which fictional series are you a fan of. To get us started I would say that I am a fan of the following: Doctor who, Star wars, Tolkien, Pokemon, Horrible histories (not technically a fictional series but oh well), Steven Universe, Dc Comics (including the cw shows and the dcau but not the dceu), the marvel cinematic universe, Harry Potter, The Elder Scrolls, the X-men, Avatar: the last airbender (and probably legend of Korra soon but I haven't gotten around to watching it yet), Infinity train, Lego ninjago, Stranger Things, i Zombie, The Incredibles, The portal series and I am sure there are some I'm forgetting. And kinda a fan of these but not as dedicatedly as the above: Adventure time, Star trek, BBC's Sherlock, Bravest warriors,Studio Ghibli, most Disney animated movies (with a few exceptions), over the garden wall, Mario (especially super Mario galaxy ) and again I am sure there are some I'm forgetting. So what about you, What fandoms are you in?

Hi everyone, I'm an AFOL and a long time collector and my children now have a good collection of their own. Recently my daughter received a 'LEGO compatible' set (Sluban) as a birthday gift from a schoolfriend. I don't want to see this set mixed in with the real LEGO....but I'm not going to take it away either. I feel a bit like I'm being a snob ...but basically...the solution I'm going for is to treat it like any non-LEGO toy i.e.. it stays separate. Obviously, this isn't as practical as separating Barbies and model cars etc. from the LEGO. The solution will probably be to glue the other model together. Any other AFOLs/parents given this any thought? Cheers, Luke
