Budgeting and choosing sets for your collection
Peppermint_M replied to Tmanderson's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I have three of shopping lists with "budget ideas". List one is Sets I Want, these I'll get at retail price because I really want them. Sometimes it is a designated shopping trip purchase (AKA, go to the LEGO Shop to get). List two is Sets I Like, these are sets I wait for little discounts on (due to local retailers competing with each other) or that I might purchase as a pick-me-up (Certainly healthier than a lot of donuts and chocolate). The third is Cool Sets, these are sets I don't have to have for my collection/parts bank but I like them. There are some cool looking parts or figures, maybe the design intrigues me. If they are really cut price or on a great deal then I might get tempted to buy them. So, not exactly budgeting, but not buying with reckless abandon. -
What a fantastic boat! The colour use on the hull makes it look authentic and well used to great adventure. I'm also loving that mast and rigging. Looking forward to seeing their destination

[MOC] FF7 Chocobo & Cloud Strife
Peppermint_M replied to Vincent Q's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
That is absolutely fab! The sculpting for the Chocobo is excellent and the minifig helmet as Cloud's shoulder armour looks great and is a clever use of parts. Also, I love FFVII so this was brilliant to see. Thanks for sharing this.- 9 replies

EB Xmas Raffle 2018 - Your Santa MOC entry thread
Peppermint_M replied to CopMike's topic in LEGO Town
You better watch out, Garma-Claus is coming to town! -
What LEGO loving kids I know do like the classic space figures, but they call them "Benny's Friends" and it is more related to the LEGO Movie than admiration for the simplistic designs. Though they all think the logo is really cool.

So here is a supplementary question for people: How old/long ago should a MOC be before it is not valid for the front page? Days? Weeks? A month? As everyone mentions, they miss some amazing builds because they are in areas that they do not frequent or they simply don't have the time to browse all the subforum. Something I am guilty of, even when trying to post a comment on three MOCs each day. However I want to share these excellent MOCs. What are your opinions?

Eurobricks MOC Expert alanboar HK has shared with us this stupendous MOC. For more pictures and details, take a look in Special Lego Themes.

Oh my word, this is gorgeous and amazing! The white is so sharp but creates a beautiful effect. The technique for the ropeway is super too. Thank you for sharing this.

Class! Being png assets, we can simply resize them and make them into tags. Thanks for that- 226 replies

Okay, seeing as this is devolved into a stupid argument, I am going to lock it and keep an eye on certain members to see if their behaviour here is repeated elsewhere.

I'll move this to the SciFi forum

The problem there is finding people who want to do the work! Being a regulator or moderator takes time, hence the inactivity from some. Then we need to be able to "gel" well and trust the nominee. Once it was a case of finding people who were active in a particular section of the forum and offering them a role. But the reason for this thread, the inactivity, makes it hard.

anyone ever bought base plates of other brands?
Peppermint_M replied to ks6349's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Oh, I mean, I get the baseplates from wherever, but the other layers that go on top, when I build a landscape or just a street scene; I use LEGO tiles and smaller plates. (Like a 4x4 plate etc) To me, a baseplate is like paper or backing board, something to put or make a creation on. -
No problems, happy to help

Okay, supplementary question: What do people want to see on the frontpage? At the moment there is a little news, a little new MOC posting and contests. Do people want to see MOCs that may be a little older posted on the front page? How about drawing attention to popular Discussions? Some sort of "Spotlight on" for subforums or a retrospective on certain themes or topics?

Store exclusives in the UK usually go between certain Supermarkets, Argos and the LEGO Shops. It can be hard to tell what is stock decisions by the Supermarket and what is exclusive. But Tesco most often has actual exclusives and Argos had Elves exclusively this year.

The Trailer is out, the set photos are released! Want to discuss the Move? Take a look here. Want to talk about the sets? Head over here.

If you dislike the forum so much, you are quite welcome to leave. Or, act constructively and pass on some friendly and helpful suggestions for improvement. As for the topic at hand, Leaks are all well and good and the arguments for and against them can sway back and fourth for eternity. The real risk with leaks is becoming the platform for these leaks. Now that TLG have a lot of products tied up in external IP the owners of those IP have confidentiality demands. House Mouse and the Brothers W will never be happy if their new release film is leaked out through a LEGO product photo escaping into the wild. They will make demands of TLG, and TLG will start to look for the culprit. Enormous targets for the source, like Instagram and Reddit, can absorb legal threats. But fan projects like The Brick Show and here at EB, we can't risk legal action. So, I'm not a fan of leaks. I quite like to see the official images ahead of set release but blurry and incomplete confidential images are undesirable.

anyone ever bought base plates of other brands?
Peppermint_M replied to ks6349's topic in General LEGO Discussion
They are exactly the same thing as a LEGO one, minus the moulded LEGO on the studs. I started off picking some up for a LEGO Club for kids, realised just how good quality and value they are and got myself some. In the end, they are just a layer to add stability to a build, as I cover them with LEGO plates entirely. -
I have rendered the build: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1OqLfmqkpPVwEuuMpq-T8rZ0tt2ja1Lum Hopefully that makes sense . Baseplates are slightly out-of-system unless you go up from them, but with some SNOT and use of plates, then you can put them wherever you want. Of course, you need a few more around the build to keep it stable.

Ag, that Enterprise is perfect! Combined with the top-notch "phaser" support beam and the cube... Thanks for sharing this, I think I might have to make a teeny little Enterprise too now.

I am liking the looks of this! The mixed figures make for a good population that tells you it is a future world. Do you have plans to add lights of any kind to the build? Also, you can connect baseplates to a lower layer of build: Some of these need to be on the top of whatever makes up the bottom layer. Then any regular plate must be on top of it. Some of these need to be on the baseplate, with a plates-width between them and the baseplate (so layer one under it). Put the baseplate over the lower build section and match these SNOT parts to the SNOT on the lower build, then it is a simple case of connecting them to keep them secure. If you want, I can scratch build something on one of the building programmes to show what I mean.
