I had some time to spare so I added the shrouds (only vertical rope) on the main and foremast today and you're right, it does give it a much more natural look. Thank you for noticing that, I broke the color code here indeed, it's the tan on the egyptian wing piece that causes the clash with the yellow. I'll look for some alternatives for the yellow line. The HMS Marianne will be the first target of my new corvette . As for updates, apart from some finishing touches it's only the addition of rigging and sails that will complete this ship...oh and a crew ofcourse. I'd say the ship is practically finished lego-wise. Rigging and sails is a time consuming, tiring and boring task of which I hope it will be done as fast as possible, I really do not enjoy this part of building a ship . I do have an original Idea to post the finished ship though, after all, it's just another frigate I'll be posting so I intend to make the presentation a bit more interesting, especially for you people here who gave feedback in this thread .

Very nice, makes me want to try a fort of my own, I like the angled walls a lot .

The banner changes depending on the time, if you try visiting the forum at other times than you usually do you'll see other minifigures decoration the banner

Thank you, I didn't realize my chaser guns would trigger interests . I think I can make the bowsprit a bit longer. This will be the last update for a while (other matters demand my attention now ). I'm not entirely happy with how it looks for the moment. A couple of design errors have become very noticable (from my point of view atleast ). I decided to officially evaluate my simplified technique, The ship makes a very awkward comparison with my other ships built by this technique. Starting from the left we have; the Elizabeth, Christine and the WIP Beatrix, respectively a 3-, 4- and 5-midsection ship. My conclusion is a simple one, a 4 midsection ship is Ideal for this technique. Also note that a fully covered gun deck is not advisable. 3 midsections is still acceptable and works even very well when you take precautions on the aft, such as inward galleries, like I did on the HMS Marianne; The inwards going galleries allow the stern to be more narrow which enhances the overall shape of the ship. 5 midsections however is simply not to be fixed, it makes a long and narrow ship, perhaps suitable for some types of ships but not a battleship. I also did some comparison pictures with my old frigate. So far the beatrix is an improvement on many aspects... except for this one thing... In a frontal view Farore's wind beats the crap out of any ship I lay besides her . I suppose I cannot recreate that massive bow without making the ship higher. Either way, I will finish this ship ofcourse . Anyway, as a final conclusion I'd say my technique is great for smaller ships (max 4 mids) while CGH's is much more suitable for larger vessels. Like I said, the next update will take some more time, say a couple of weeks. Thanks for the input and feedback so far.

I could try that, here's the chaser gun; I was fiddling around with different Idea's for costum cannons but I don't have the parts to make a consistent group of 20. The chaser guns may look a lot better when the carriage parts are red, brown or gray.

Quite a color shift, I like the new color scheme. I also had those same 1x3x4 doors ordered but I now realized I can't use them on my studded deck . Good luck.

Thank you, not a jar of dirt It's one of the lanterns that will cover the lights in the cabin. She will be named "Beatrix", At first I also considered the name suggestions I gave for Rebrick 'Name the ship', but none of them were really suited for this warship. Anyway, since I have so many aunts and nieces with nice names I can keep building ships for a while. You simply don't launch a ship without a proper name or it will befall an ill fate . Forgot to post my pictures earlier . I built up the masts, I can't help but think it looks kind of awkward... The channels, I'll tie the rope to the brown bars and either run them through the fence or over the fence . I realised that my old frigate will have to be sacrificed if I ever want to finish this ship , I just need more dark blue... Too bad because I really wanted to compare the two in the end, I may come up with a sollution involving modifications to the old frigate but she'll be different.

These do look very good, I never gave my cannon hatches much thought, just did it like the official sets. I understand it does reduce interior space a bit but I'm definitely going to try that some time, not on this ship though, atleast not now, I really can't justify any more bricklink orders this year . Agreed, I'm short on just one though, I may have to strip it from another MOC . The rope I have here doesn't go through technic pins though, don't really have anything else laying around. Sigh, I think I'll take a break before I start on the rigging, I want it to be done right.

I think I'll just keep it at corvette, without going to deep into historical context . Thank you, I did actually, I even bought a second bow piece along with the rest of the hull just incase I would need it. Nevertheless, I really makes a poor stern. Also, by not using an upper bow piece I managed to keep the stern close to the water, enhancing its sleek look. It may look as if I simply copied the color scheme of the old frigate, yet I did consider many other colors first (especially since I had to demolish something to get enough light blue). Not many colors work however. I tried both black and dark blue but both colors make the ship very dark which heavely contrasts with the white hull, It's definitely a light color I need in order tp keep a balanced color scheme. White, light gray and tan were options but in the end I couldn't help but like the light blue most of all. I even tried red and so discovered the perfect way to ruin the ship . I'm sorry you don't like it like this, can't please everyone I suppose . Well, I am quite a purist, I only make the exception for rigging and sails. Especially since I started attending lego exhibitions I try to keep my MOCs purist. Oh that dragon arch is so 2012 . Thanks for reminding me, I may dig it up again and try to implement it in a new ship . Brickshelf was acting funny yesterday so here's the proper update; (Remember, ignore the yellow handrails in the center). Weather deck as good as finished, I may have to modify the poop deck later though, make it more narrow. The forecastle deck. The quarter deck, I was considering using a detail from Kabel's Endeavor, for the stair covers...I might still do later . For now the interior is quite accessible but it will probably become a bit more complicated when I add the rigging. Next; the channels removing those awful yellow handrails! And then the channels .

I love the color scheme, I've always found green to be a difficult color to use for a ship but dark green works quite well appearently. The deck is really nice, staying fatefull to the classic gray color of the SES deck and yet so much more detailed. Building a proper schooner out of the SES crossed my mind a couple of times as well. As for her name, maybe you can call her the Skull's Eye Schooner .

I'm not sure I know what you mean, the weather deck wasn't finished there. Or maybe you meant the gun deck? I agree, as I was searching info on french corvettes I learned that they were usually armed with relatively light guns, until captured by the British, who replaced the guns by far more heavy artillery. Thing is, I just got these shiny new shooting cannons . And I don't have any other ship where they fit on, except my Flying Dutchman but on that one the old dark gray ones look much better. As for the stern; That's the plan, although I confess that I may not stick to the plan. In the mean time I added some mid blue to the broadsides and came to the constatation that yellow truly does not get along with the mid blue. Problem is I only have enough of those half fences in yellow . This is what I have currently, I'd show more pictures but Brickshelf is acting funny. Please ignore the yellow handrails in the center of the ship . I don't know what I was thinking .

I'll take some construction pictures later (my camera is recharging). In the mean time, another update; She's really taking shape now, I'll be calling her a corvette rather than a frigate from now on, fits the description better . The bow is almost finished, that figurehead is temporarely, I'm going to try some lighter colors. Headrails...those flex tubes really are a pain to work with . A jewel of a stern, eventhough I say so myself, that back wings piece is one of those pieces I bought just because I like it, not with any building Idea in mind. I'm a big fan of egyptian lego. I was actually working on an idol when the piece found its way in my hands. This was it for now, I'm looking for another color to use on the broadside but there's really only one option, mid blue.

The new types of hull allowed me to make the ship a bit lower, But my previous ship, the Christine was built on the old type (using 4 midsections). So it's definitely possible. I'd love to see you use that hull . Glad I didn't have that color shade, The 18 guns I ordered came from a single lot, 4 of them where dark metallic gray while the rest where the pearlish color.

Thanks, that's nice to know . They don't? hmm, must have dreamt it then. I'll better start organizing the layout, you're not by any chance interested in contributing an Islet (or something else)?

Magnificent! I'm very happy to see it in real bricks. The digital renders where pretty good and showed a design I liked very much. Yet somehow it looks so much better now that it's built in real bricks. Maybe it's just the thought of this ship being a real physical thing that makes my mind like it even more . I know all about delicate details, in my opinion it's just something you have to live with, especially when they're tiny you can't easely reinforce them as they will look different. Anyway, be sure to take some great pictures when finished .

Not dissapointed at all, In a ship this small one cannot expect a fully independant operational capstan system, there's just not enough space. A simple sollution like this one is an elegant one under these circumstances . I'm liking the color scheme so far by the way. I hadn't noticed it at first but I see you placed a light brick in the stern . This must be the smallest ship I've ever seen that contains these features, you're onto something here, keep it up .

And the deck is ready. Still have to do the bow. Lights in the cabin, the cable isn't hidden as well as on my old frigate, I didn't have as much room in the hull this time but it works. (Still have to cover the lights with lanterns). Capstan, I'm not sure if I will make it a double one (on the upper deck). Something different now, In my order there were also some new cannons. I noticed there's a color shade difference. It's not so easy to see on the pictures though. I assume the left one is older, used in 2009 pirates and the right one came from POTC. Either way, Bricklink doesn't distinguish the two. It doesn't really bother me, I was just surprised for a moment .

Yes, more WIP goodness! My suggestion would also be to widen the ship a bit. Don't change a thing about the broadsides, only place port and starboard side a bit further away from each other and widen the stern and bow. Such exquisite curve, a pleasure to look at. I wouldn't have a clue on how to even start something like this in LDD. One of these days I'll make my very own ship-of-the-line...

Nice start, a working capstan in such small sloop, I'd love to see the inner workings of that . The redesigned hull looks great, keep it up .

Nicely done, I love the way you integrated the horse in the prow. You clearly know how to optimize the usable space in a small ship such as this. I'm looking forward to that warship .

Yesss . Update time: My parts have arrived. I filled in the gaps under the angled broadside, It didn't work out completely the way I wanted but it works well enough. Cheese! I also determined the position of the gun deck throughout the ship. Although I probably won't use tan (need it somewhere else), a white deck will do just as well. The ship is slightly less straight than earlier, I think I can improve it still when I build the bow section and poop deck. Well, that's it for now, To be continued... ...Right now I tried closing the gap between the stern/galleries. The dark blue is a bit strong, perhaps white would be a better choice. Although I like the effect of the dk blue in this angle. Integrated capstan, unfortunatly I don't have any technic shift gears left, nor shift rings . I spent enough money on lego for the rest of the year already so I'll have to do it with what I do have. So the mechanics are a bit simpler, both anchors will be raised at the same time, no independancy or locking mechanisms. Now that I think about it, Why would a ship like the Christine need a sophisticated capstan like that? If only I could get it out without having to break open the deck . I'll look for some other consructions to improve the bow. What I could really use here is a 2x1x2 dk blue slope brick. So far so good, It's going quite well, I don't expect many complications, except for the rigging channels perhaps. But that's for later, first I will lay out the gun deck.

I'm with kabel here, I'd love to see some new small ships. Besides, it's very unlikely I'd buy any big ship LEGO brings out in coming years, I already have enough big ship-parts. That's what I was thinking when I saw the Imperial Flagship, didn't buy it, didn't need it, didn't want it .

Not yet, I never did a very good job on those in my previous ships, I may look for some inspiration in the ship index . Well, for november I am very eager to do a pirate layout, I know Bonaparte is in for it too, Since Hornblower isn't joining the layout would be considerably smaller (The massive armies, fortress and a huge load of blue, tan and green baseplates were contributed by Hornblower). Also, I'll have to organize it myself this time, I'm figuring things out. In the mean time, do not slow down on your schooner! Thank you, I buy both sets and seperate parts (via Bricklink), I'm always looking for good deals and cheap lots. This can be seen in some of my creations, a while ago I used white on some of my ships instead of tan just because it was cheaper .
