Best technic sets without pf?
Kumbbl replied to Rishab N's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
agree with all unless the 8069: it is well designed and it is also building fun but it is quite unplayable cause of the need of "lots of winding of gear knobs and sore fingers"... -
probably because they waht to have more speeds than just 4 in the gearboxes an this would be hard with the 8880-ball-"bearing"-stick...s.b. hmm, no you can not go diagonal - you still have to go left/right then back/forward but because the lever does not slide on an axle but is guided by "ball-bearing" there is no need to twiddle the lever into the correct lane ... but i admit: this very realistic and smart changer would hardly work with more than 4 speeds - at least not with current dimensioned driving rings... But nevertheless: IMHO a just 4 speed gearbox with the ball-based-stick is more preferable to the 6-speed boxes with this clumsy axle guided stick well, but our topic here is not named "Gearbox"... ;-)

yes, fully agree - very smart selflocking linkage and i also agree with the linkage of the 856 bulldozer... One more: the complete mechanics of the forklift of the universal set 8082 - IMHO absolutely incredible cool.... @SNIPE: 8466 uses more or less the same principle for its doors but IMHO with a even more elaborated linkage...

Hi all, i'm wondering what is your opinion about the most ingenious solution in an official lego technic set a Technic Lego set or MOC? I will start with one: The nifty door opening/locking-solution of the 4x4 off-roader 8466 is IMHO truely ingenious - i mean the meachnism which is based on pushing/releasing this cute little part: which in turn locks or releases the car-door... With one word: astonishing - the designer should be proud of this solution.

[MOD] 8466 Offroader
Kumbbl replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
hmm, i know this sevice attachment from the instructions but have never built it because for me it does not match well the intention of an off-roader... but probably this is just my personal opinion... -
Your Best Technic Bargains
Kumbbl replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
well, then of course these are good deals... got today a 8070 for 57€ incl. shipping in near mint condition of parts, instructions and box... good deal too - do not like this set as a model but it is a good parts pool... -
[MOD] 8466 Offroader
Kumbbl replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
yep, agreed - just tried it out with the extra hard springs of the Unimog 8110 - works perfectly - together with the better attachment point of the front suspension (see linked MOD of Designer Han in my first posting) now the suspension works nearly perfectly - IMHO with this simple MODs the suspension of the 8466 is the best of all supercars, not to stiff, not to soft - even better than the 8865 suspension, my previous reference suspension... -
[MOD] 8466 Offroader
Kumbbl replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The 8466 polarizies, either you hate it or you love it ;-) For me it is a good "supercar" with a party very interesting building technique...and the nifty door mechanism is indeed very ingenious, especially the locking/opening-linkage... me too.. one for display (and playing for my son), one for the Ninja Supercar of N.Kuipers which is assembled by the two sets 8466+8458 -
Hi all, just tried the MOD "improved steering unit for 8466 Offroader" of Designer Han for the set 8466 Offroader - it can be found here (scroll down): http://www.designer-han.nl/lego/original%20modifications.htm It includes - a better attachment point for the front suspension - with the original attachment point the front suspension often doesn't come up after deflecting - this simple mod improves this ... - a front stabilizer which ensures that these huge wheels stay 'parallel' when this model is pushed forward Both improves the model a lot...i strongly recommend each builder of 8466 to give it a try... overall this MOD just needs ~ 10 parts - probably all of them are already somewhere in your household best regards

Your Best Technic Bargains
Kumbbl replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
depends where you live and if you mean sealed or not - in Germany you will get each Unimog at eBay for max 130€... good deals here for used but very good to mint condition are about 90€ (very very good) up to 110€... same for 8070 - very good used (with box etc) you will probably get for about 55 to 60€.. -

my ranking 4 to 6 (1 to 3 s.a. first posting) 4. Tractor + a complete racebuggy motor set 8287: together 45€ 5. Two Complete near mint boxed supercar 8466: one for 60€, one for 65 6. Complete near mint boxed universal set 8485: 65€ -
Here my top 3 of excellent deals: 1. mobile crane 8053 + PF set 8293: Together for just 60€ incl. shipping and original instructions and boxes in very good condition. This is not used as main model because 8421 and 8431 are way better cranes but i like the 8053 for these reasons: - good variety of useful parts for MOCs - The B-model Harbour crane: "...This crane is mammoth, and it looks spectacular, one of the best b-models I have ever seen Technic come out with..." 2. Unimog 8110 in quite mint condition for 105€ incl. shipping, original instructions and box in mint condition 3. Excavator 8043 for 97€ in quite mint condition (incl. instructions and box)

What are the best B models?

Best B-Models of Technic Sets?
Kumbbl replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
yes, i agree - this could be a really great mid-range model - lets say about 1000 parts with working engines, a working helm and some more nifty features...could be also a good set for motorizing and remote controlling... with studless arms and panels i'm sure a very cute design could be achieved... At least this would be something completely new and not the 37th mobile crane or 129th truck -
Best B-Models of Technic Sets?
Kumbbl replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Found another very good B-model: The Powerboat of the 8425 Airplane: Satisfies all criterias of a good b-model: - something completely different than the main model (powerboat vs. airplane) - uses almost all parts - has very nice features: attachable boat-engines, moving the boat drives the engines, very well done steering - very good overall design - quite interesting building IMHO this b-model is so good that i will buy a second 8425 so the powerboat and the airplane can be on display at once -
i doubt this is possible just with a special camera setting - for this you need same "extra" work by hand - i suppose he did the following (or something similar): 1. taking a simple picture as you see - but of course in full color 2. load the picture in a suitable program like Adobe Photoshop 3. name the initial layer "background" 4. selecting the lego-models, copy them and putting them on a own layer named "lego" 5. converting the layer "background" into b/w (e.g. by reducing saturation to zero and slightly enhancing the contrast) 6. Voila - finished with a program like Adobe Photoshop or Adoba Photoshop elements this is no rocket sience but it is quite easy and takes probably just 10 to 20 minutes - depends on you experience with these techniques...but the only time consuming part is step 4... All you need is smart and intelligent selection tools - i can recommend Adobe Photoshop elements for this...
