  1. You're completely missing the point. Captain America was created in mid-WWII as anti-Nazi propaganda. You can acknowledge something is political while agreeing with the message. As @danth says, everything is political, always. More specifically: the Cap cold-cocked Hitler before the USA even officially entered the war. Talk about controversial!
  2. Well, this isn't really surprising. I've only heard of the show being popular in the USA — I don't think I know anyone here in the UK who watches it, even. As for getting non-LEGO fans to fork over the cash for this set? Of course it'll happen: time and time again we see sets made to cash in on a certain fandom. Friends and Big Bang Theory come to mind, as does the UCS Millennium Falcon. The Skyline sets over in Architecture aren't cheap but they sell well enough (in LEGO and non-LEGO shops) to justify the line's continued existence. Fret not on this front.
  3. It looks fabulous — no idea how realistic it is but the colour scheme looks nice and fanciful. I especially like the integration of the blue and yellow in the structure and windows of the aftercastle.
  4. As for my own (actual) opinion, I don't really have one. LEGO isn't my friend but at the same time I don't think they're egregiously badly behaved. I like some of the sets they produce, so I buy some of them. I don't like some of the other sets, so I don't buy those . No need for a parasocial attachment to a large capitalist institution.
  5. Wow I love it when I go to the LEGO store, make it clear I’m not going to buy anything, and get treated like royalty the whole time I’m there. Sometimes they give me a foot massage and even apologize that they can’t offer free shipping at a brick-and-mortar shop.
  6. I think the reddish brown colour is just fine. What caught my eye was that you built the walls upside down. They look great. Good build.
  7. Oh dear we're sheeple tricked by the great ~Bricklink Conspiracy~ whatever shall we do
  8. OK, yeah, that's how a marketplace like Bricklink works??? You can't expect freebies from private individuals the way companies like TLG or Amazon etc. offer free shipping and so on. To a multinational, it hardly makes a difference in the bottom line, but to an individual it can be substantial.
  9. They've managed to spruce Bricklink up over the years but at its core it's a no-frills site that does exactly what it says on the tin. I don't think it needs to be ritzy to do its job. I had issues setting up PayPal in the States so for my first Bricklink order five or six years ago, I had to send a cheque!
  10. Anecdotally: I am watching TCW after finishing The Mandalorian because it's on Disney+ and I might as well watch it while I'm subscribed.
  11. This set wasn't made in a vacuum: it's a continuation of the (honestly disappointing) series of sets based on popular TV shows. First Friends, then Seinfeld, then this. Everyone is Awesome is your feel-good representation set while this is an effort to cash in on what is (at least in the US) a pop-culture phenomenon. Why is it called Queer Eye? Because it's a reboot of a show of the same title produced in a less-sensitive era. The presenters run the gamut from masculine to feminine and they're not even all gay (Antoni is bi). This would be nice, I agree! But to complain about representation or lack thereof when this is a set based on a TV show is barking up the wrong tree. LEGO's not saying "hey, gay people, you should buy this"; they're saying "hey, people who like the show, you should buy this set". It's nice I think to have another set that features people (and themes, in the case of Everyone is Awesome) from the LGBTQ community, but representation is not the point of the set. Should add: this set doesn't represent me, and I've never seen the show. But I don't think it's grossly offensive Not going to say you shouldn't be upset, or that you're wrong for being upset, but I think you're missing the set's point a bit.
  12. Looks nice, yeah. I like that there are all the torso options to change around. And Tan's hairpiece is fabulous
  13. If you don't like it, just don't buy it or better yet, build what you want yourself
  14. new teaser:
  15. Bit of a hot take here — Force Unleashed got a few sets so there's no reason KotOR can't.
  16. Is anyone else as excited about the KotOR remake as I am? https://blog.playstation.com/2021/09/09/star-wars-knights-of-the-old-republic-remake-is-the-legendary-tale-remade-on-playstation-5/
  17. I've watched a handful lately: The Curse of Frankenstein (1958) and Dracula (1957) for a double dose of Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing, and Cruella (2021), which was... an adventure.
  18. I wouldn't say it's for the looks - I don't think as a relative outsider there's anything particularly special about Camp Nou or Old Trafford architecturally speaking, especially compared to Wembley (new or old!) or the Olympiastadion in Berlin. It's a collectible for fans of the club. Not my cup of tea but perfectly all right.
  19. This was a fun one to watch from the never-alive. Well done @JintaiZ on your savvy picks as protector. Was surprised it was you since you came across as scummy all game. Just goes to show I need to dial my scumdar in again.
  20. What an adorable take on Billy! The whole collection looks great. Wonderful builds.
  21. I'm a big fan of the Carbide and Carbon Building — always enjoyed seeing it on trips downtown when I lived near Chicago. Have you considered using dark green, rather than sand green, grille tiles on it?
  22. Hello? Are non-players allowed in this thread? I finally have decent wifi and some peace & quiet and I've enjoyed reading the day threads. Thanks for being entertaining everyone
  23. Looks stunning and the chocolate frog card is a great way to present the golden Dumbledore figure. The Hedwig build looks great, and I see we have the 'stacked 1x4 panel' technique to represent pages of the open book. Both technically and thematically interesting and I look forward to seeing a detailed review.
  24. I'm unfortunately going away for 2 weeks of holiday on Tuesday, but have fun everyone
