  1. Have completed the survey — was interested to note that Reddit was listed as the first and only example of a message board where people talk about LEGO.
  2. I agree — for me the gold standard Slave I is the 6209: sizeable set with modest piece count at the expense of detail. This new one seems just a bit too small, and it's a shame there's a gap between the canopy and the rest of the hull.
  3. Pokeweed berries look delicious and the plant grew all around my school... I learned by osmosis not to eat them, though. Blackberries, on the other hand? Delicious :) I grew up before Friends was a thing but my toy preferences were fairly agnostic. My sister and I had LEGO sets from all the same themes (Town, Harry Potter, etc.) and she had a few Polly Pockets that I found fascinating from a mechanical point of view. We shared lots of toys... I think the only ones I had that were explicitly gendered were a couple of Action Man dolls, including the astronaut one that let you peep through the visor and pretend you were in space.
  4. Yeah, different permissions for different users. For example, you need permission to see the Reviewers Academy subforum, and the Guest Section is not visible to *logged-in* users.
  5. I had a chat with one of the employees at Leicester Square the other day about some older Architecture sets (10+ years old) — we kind of nerded out about our interest in the line. Clearly knew a lot about both those sets and the current offerings in the shop, although I didn't need any help in the shop.
  6. The set looks great but I'd like mainly to commend your stunning photography. What size are the shift key tiles? 3x3?
  7. Incidentally, I made it to the Leicester Square shop yesterday and they had a couple of copies of the Story of Nian and the Lantern Festival. Nothing to suggest they're trying to get rid of them as hard as possible.
  8. That's pretty fun! Good idea for a build. Nice job and thanks for sharing.
  9. This set lends itself so well to mods and expansions, and you've done a fabulous job here. It's got the classic castle vibe I would have loved to have had as a kid — much more substantial than the old King Leo's Castle. Great build and thanks for sharing!
  10. This is just one perspective from one place: for me in America last year, it was extremely hard to get hold of the Temple Fair, to the extent I almost imported one from the UK. But I finally found one in a LEGO shop.
  11. Why do we need a Queer Eye set the guys are lovely but really?
  12. Fabulous mosaic — very well executed. LEGO lends itself well to the geometry of Ancient Egyptian art. It's great seeing what new builds you come up with. Thanks for sharing!
  13. The build is alright! However... Hope I don't come across as a dick, but the images are of really poor quality — they look like what happens when someone discovers HDR and goes far overboard. Real LEGO doesn't glow; real LEGO doesn't have psychedelic fringes. You already go to the computational effort of rendering your digital build. Do better.
  14. It continues to look fabulous. Well done for sticking with this project and good luck on the rest of the build!
  15. Looks great — you did well. The flex-tube trees are lovely, a favourite technique of mine, and the one with technic bushings for added texture is pretty creative. Great build and thanks for sharing!
  16. Nice modular! I particularly like the awning — very creative!
  17. There's a joke I've heard about society in America that can be modified to no end, to suit the point you want to make and where you happen to live. Versions of it go: "there are two sexualities: straight and political", "there are two genders: male and political", etc. etc. At the risk of killing the joke, it underlines the fact that choosing not to portray something or someone really is a choice, as others have said in this thread already. It's a privileged position to be able to look at a status quo and think it is not political. The more we normalize something that is "other", the less "political" it gets.
  18. JK's twitter is fanfic Back to the topic at hand. When someone posts a MOC of a church, nobody comes out of the woodwork to say "But God isn't real" because that would be disrespectful regardless of the builder's beliefs. It's simply unwelcome to hear about the existence of a cliff, one that requires a leap of faith to believe in, when what is very real and close at hand is my and others' feelings about themselves and the people they love.
  19. Yup, there's chatter in several threads about it, including in the Stranger Things rumour-mill, because the new mold would be perfect for Steve Harrington.
  20. Are all the hairpieces ABS? Can't quite tell looking at the textures in your review pics.
  21. I don't want to appear to be keeping score, because I'm not, but LEGO have made strides in recent years regarding including people with disabilities. There was a city set not too long ago (or it might have been a while, since I got out of tune with the releases) that featured a minifig in a brand-spanking-new wheelchair, and that stuck with me far more than the actual build. But have there been explicitly LGBTQ+ figures before? I truly don't know. Can we cancel Star Wars because Anakin was born out of wedlock?
  22. This is delightful — love the colour scheme. I'm less convinced by the way the boundary of the build seems to float over the table, but the keep itself is really cute. Thanks for sharing!
  23. Caught this on Flickr the other day — looks really good. Plenty of colour and texture going around. I think the best detail is the round splash around every ship coming through the gate. Did you think about illuminating the gate?
  24. How dare companies seek profit under capitalism, smh. Yeah, people love collecting monochrome minifigures... there's a thread in the custom minifig subforum here all about it. TBH I'd enjoy it as a way to kickstart my own monochrome fig collection. love it
