I think a lot of the "controversy" over Friends was based on some people's worst fears of LEGO gender programming. Now that Friends has been out for over a year, I think it is clear that Friends is a positive thing. I pulled these two facts from Wiki: By February the Change.org petition had gathered over 50,000 signatures, and LEGO accepted SPARK's request for a meeting to discuss their concerns. The meeting took place on April 20, 2012. Bailey Shoemaker Richards said of the event, "We are thrilled that the LEGO representatives expressed such a deep passion for creating healthy play patterns for children, and we hope to see them meet our expectations in the coming years."[7] According to NPR, Lego Friends are "one of the biggest successes in Lego's history ... The line doubled sales expectations in 2012, the year it launched. Sales to girls tripled in just that year." The success has caused other construction-set companies such as Mega Bloks to introduce girl dolls.[3] The result we see with these sets likely includes feedback from concerned consumers. I think Friends is a balanced line that is good for kids and LEGOs bottom line.

My favorites are the Batmobile (stays on my desk at work), Mirkwood Elf Guard (Army Builder for LotR), and the Hot Dog Stand (bicycles) which I got both as a promo and bought a second one off of eBay.

I picked up an extra Helm's Deep at Target today. It was marked down from $129.99 to $90.98. I did not need it but could not pass up that deal. Now the question is do I resale it once the other stores get rid of their stock or do I use it for extra castle brick. It has my favorite Tolkien character in it: Theoden.

I think the set list is probably real but the titles are likely off. Remember when we get the weird set list for LotR Wave 2. It said Eagle Nest but it was the Battle at the Black Gate which included the eagle. I think there is an exclusive set somewhere though as the MTV interview indicated that there was at least 5 sets. I don't think that an evasive answer on whether Smaug would be included should be read as anything other than she was not going to say. I am willing to wait on Smaug. The design of the dragon was under wraps for so long LEGO might not have enough time to do it for this wave. Also IMO it would be anticlimactic to include him before the last wave. I do hope for Beorn's house as a Target exclusive this wave. They can do Beorn in the final wave but this is the only opportunity to do this house. TLG was willing to skip it though when this was only going to be two movies.

Superman is well known the world round. In LEGO terms, he had his own set long before the recent movie came out. I have long been a Marvel + Batman fan but I bought two Superman sets. If LEGO comes out with a GotG set, I will have to see some pieces in there that I need for a MOC before I buy it. I do really want Thor 2 and some Winter Soldier sets.

Mirkwood spiders have hit clearance at one of my local stores. I would not count on them being available when Wave 2 comes out.

Cool video. Too bad you weren't able to do that entire build.... but I understand. I doubt I could put off the build for batteries to charge.

I think that SDCC promos should be preview features in exclusive packaging. If they did a Peter Jackson in modern appearance (as apposed to his cameo already in mnifig form), I would not particularly want him. He would be out of place in any Tolkien style MOC. The most I would do with him is to put him in a City Modular display.

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
Blakstone replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I don't think the major characters will be in the CMF line. They will be in the 17 regular sets. I think the cameos will met the CMF, though not all the ones mentioned in trailer will be. However, if there is not already an existing minifig of a character, it is likely to appear in either the sets or the CMF line. Otherwise kids could send their parents on a fruitless quest for the minifig they loved from the movie.- 2,626 replies

Lego Series 12! What do you want to see..?
Blakstone replied to MisterR's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Ragtag, that would be an awesome set. -
I will pass on this license which will help as I think there will be a good number of retro styled sets coming with The LEGO Movie. Still I am trying to figure how they will incorporate the flick fired missiles with this license. Congrats to the The Simpsons fans that will enjoy these sets. Perhaps Bart / Homer jumping some canyon on a skateboard will have enough action for the kids.

The printed tile in the game is very similar to the stickered one in Bagend. The only difference I could see was the printed one had red in it marking The Lonely Mountain. One dollar is a good price for it Masked Builder. I did not realize it was in the game. I just bought that on clearance for cheap brick.

Is there any precedent for printed tiles in a LEGO board game making it into a regular set? I ask as I got a lovely map to the Lonely Mountain in a Hobbit game I found on clearance. If so, perhaps we will see it again in the December wave. If not, it and the other printed titles would work well in MOCs.

Lego Series 12! What do you want to see..?
Blakstone replied to MisterR's topic in Special LEGO Themes
The volume of the Medusa tail is a lot less than a LEGO horse minus the head. I recommended a satyr since that would provide goat hindlegs for minifigs. I think centaurs could come in a regular set but right now there are no themes that it would work in. Perhaps a CUUSOO project could change that. -
Lego Series 12! What do you want to see..?

Centaur would be good but it is unlikely in this type of product for the reasons provided (too big for the bag). So how about a satyr as an alternative? -
Next CUUSOO set: 21103 Back to the Futureâ„¢ Time Machine
Blakstone replied to Blakstone's topic in LEGO Licensed
I am amazed that they did not mark it up. I will probably check my local TRU at lunch. -
The new CUUSOO images really do pop. Good job. Between the Battling Ram and the Catapult, I have to pick the Battling Ram. Not only do we get a lot of catapults with the Castle line, the Battling Ram has a lot of the Roman shields. I would tell CUUSOO that I would likely buy three. One or two to keep and one to give shields to all those Roman Commanders. Neither build looks too complex for LEGO or CUUSOO.

One of the three area Walmarts in my area have Wave 2 LotR already. Two of my three area Targets have it though.

When I came out of my dark ages for Lord of the Rings, Bree and the Prancy Pony was one of four things I really wanted to build. LEGO has made a very lame Weathertop, but Bree, The Gates of Argonath, and Meduseld the Golden Hall of Edoras have all escaped official sets. I do hope we get a Bree but if LEGO skips Gondor for it, I fear that others on this board might revolt.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 11 Rumours & Discussion
Blakstone replied to CM4Sci's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Actually, it is only Scientist. So if they make a male counterpart (who is not mad), he would have to be Scientist Man, Science Guy, or Research Assistant. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 11 poll
Blakstone replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
My vote is for the Constable (see my avatar). I really enjoy the historical and fantasy minifigures. Series 11 seems weak in that but I see there is a lot of good stuff for City fans. The Yeti is too cute for my collection that the welder, jazz player, and scarecrow are also musts. I can envision a Victorian London MOC in my future after I get a few Constables.- 13 replies

LEGO would change the head and tail molds at the very least. Still I have faith that TLG would do a new design for Smaug.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 11 Rumours & Discussion
Blakstone replied to CM4Sci's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I agree that the girl robot is stupid and I don't want one. I don't feel that it takes away from the scientist. Each minifig stands on its own. -
Out of the three Targets and Walmarts I go to check out LEGOs, two Targets have them and only one Walmart does. The Walmart that does has them in the middle of the main aisle near the toy section, not in the LEGO section at all. The Castle 2013 and LotR 2013 availability was the same at all these stores too.

The thread that Denes links to has the guide in it directly. The offsite location is gone though. According to that guide though the last eight studs on a 32 stud deep base plate is are blank. Is there a specific reason for that? I think I will follow it just to reduce the amount of brink I am going to need.
