  1. 5) Roman Emperor Entry (Build by toutouille) - 1 point 15) Fortune Teller Entry (Build by genecyst) - 1 point 35) Mermaid Entry (Build by Cecilie) - 1 point The mermaid was a very weak minifig for me but Cecillie's design was excellent. I enjoyed the underwater affect

  4. Ki-Adi-Mundi, I agree. The Orthanc is a good sign that we may get a massive Minas Tirith set in the future. I know that the consensus was that it would never happen but many thought a $200 US Orthanc was impossible as well. I would be happy for a focus on Gondor in 2014 as long as it includes Eowyn and the Witch King.
  5. Flieger, I get the Game of Thrones would have as much variation as LotR for sets... perhaps even more due to much more hours of film to cover. However, the content of the show is such that LEGO would never do it. Is there a chance that this conversation become its own topic to keep from bogging down the Castle 2013 thread? I want to get back to the "It's just for kids" "It could have been better" "What's up with those colors / heraldry designs?" "LEGO wants to kill the theme despite spending so much money on it" debates. By the way, that is an awesome LEGO dragon.
  6. Since Game of Thrones is rated TV MA, TLG will never touch it no matter how popular it might be. It would diminish their overall brand. If you want proof of that, read the CUUSO reason for rejecting the Shaun of the Dead build. Most of LEGO's market goes through a number of years of play only to go into their dark ages, never to return. I see this Castle line as focused on drawing in a new wave of Castle fans. As though Castle fans mature hopefully we will get someone like Kingdoms again. I can wait since I have tons of LotR sets coming up and I am also enjoying the Marvel sets too.
  7. If your theory is correct, It seems like a waste of money. LEGO could simply not make any Castle sets. They stopped Pirates for a while now. To the 10 year old kids that do not recall the classic yellow castle, the forestmen, or even any of the Kingdom sets, these sets are perfectly suited. There are even AFOLs in this thread that love the theme. It is not a conspiracy setup by "The Man". LEGO just release a wave not targeted to you... or me for that matter. I will probably buy a few of the smaller sets though.
  8. How cool would it be if they gave promotional minifigs for movie tickets? I am such a LEGO addict that I would go to Man of Steel on the opening day for the Jor-El minifig but would wait for Netflix otherwise.
  9. At least we have minotaures and Medusas in LEGO now. But you have to hunt for the CFG for them.
  10. This is a must buy for me. I doubt it would ever scrap it as that is the fate of most of my sets. So far only Helm's Dee, Bagend, and Medieval Market Village have that honor. I am glad that they are including Treebeard and love that Grima is in this set. Saruman with kirtle outfit sounds like a new print.
  11. I did the castle theme when I was 13 - 17 and I loved the forestman theme. Though I also needed the armored forces and the few civilians to go with them. At issue though is that most young fans do not become AFOLS. Parents buy the sets that are in stock at the stores for the kids. So it matters not what castle sets were like even four years ago. For the younger fans, they don't know what they were. The City line does the same thing where the same few set ideas seems to always be around. I understand the disappointment when we go from the Medieval Market Village or even the latest Joust set to these sets. I think even a few more tweaks could have made these sets appeal to AFOL more without lessening their appeal to kids. Alas that is not the case. I could tell you that I will boycott this wave, but I know that I will be jonesing for brick and buy at least the smaller sets. I really doubt I will ever buy the two largest ones. Hopefully the day will come that the forestmen or the vikings will return.
  12. I don't see that this hearsay report changes anything. There is no actual source. It does says that the construction piece must be in scale with the minifig (no Starwars planet sets with a minifig and a micro build) and no random construction (No boats for Rohan minifigs). This would not rule out a catapult for an orc battle pack or a section of ruined wall for some Gondor soldiers though.
  13. Contract would restrict them from only releasing minifigs. I doubt the contract says that they cannot release construction toy sets that focus on background characters that fans would use in large number. As long as TLG includes a small build of a catapult or a tree they would be good as far as the contract goes. If there was a magic number of how much building was necessary per minifig, we don't have that. The fan debate is why doesn't TLG make a battle pack with a particular army / armies and include enough construction to satisfy the contact. It is also will they ever to LotR / Hobbit battle packs. This debate seems to spill into almost every LotR thread as lot of the fans want them. It can be a tedious discussion as there is no way to ever resolve this unless and until TLG does a battle pack. I hope that they do. I want more variety of Rohan minifigs and I know so many others want Gondor and the other armies.
  14. In all fairness, if an European retailer wanted to inlcude the blue coated Bilbo as an exclusive with the Blueray Hobbit movie, TLG would have done so. It does not strike me a racist to market different product to different countries. It can be a bit narrow minded. I would love to get the Chinese New Year red dragon Creator set for this year. It was only available in Asia. Yes, the biggest demand is in that country but there would be some demand in the U.S. and Europe. I do not know much anticipated demand does there need to be for LEGO to make a full set available in a country / region. For promotional items such as Iron Patriot (possibly) and blue jacked Bilbo, they need a partner for it. The exclusive Elrond was available in Europe but in a different promotion than in the U.S. It was a mistake to make the Great Briton Olympic team only available in the U.K. unless there made other national teams for other countries. And it would be a mistake to release Iron Patriot only in the U.S. The Avengers are the biggest thing in Hollywood right now and Iron Man was the biggest thing in the Avengers.
  15. Damaximus, I thought that the purpose behind the yellow minifigs is that the race / skin color is open to whatever you want it to be. I don't believe that those that only want yellow minifigs are saying that all the characters are the same race or skin tone. While I like the idea of having either all yellows or all fleshies (of any shade), I have only done it once for a MOC. As you say, it is hard to let all of the other wonderful minifigs go. To me that best minifigs are the CMF / Kingdoms for the yellows and LotR for the fleshies. Though I have bought sets from most of the current license lines.
  16. GRogall, thanks for the pics and I second the request of a close up of the Mouth of Sauron. I have longed planned on skipping the Pirate Ship Ambush as I build scenery and buildings but it has won me over.
  17. Cafe Terrace at Night Minifig: Waiter Theme: City This entry was inspired by Van Gogh's famous painting Cafe Terrace at Night. That seems like the perfect location for a French waiter. Follow this link to see the entry with the waiter minifig.
  18. I believe that the Corsair ship was included so that the Pirates fans will have something to buy this year. I welcome them and perhaps many of the exclusive minifigs will be more available on Bricklink.
  19. Gondor does need a unique LEGO helmet. The rangers don't need any new molds but we need some new prints to get their tabards correct.
  20. People frequently lament the lack of Gondorian soldiers but it is rare to see mention of the rangers of Gondor. I would love both but my heart belongs to Rohan so I still want more of those sets.
  21. I am going to the LEGO Store tomorrow but I cannot decide on whether to get a second copy of warg attack or mirkwood spiders. More red tree leaves versus wargs. It would be an easy decision if both wargs were gray. How reusable do you find the dwarf printing in each set? What would you choose?
  22. While I would like Beorn's house in LEGO, TLG skipped it when they thought that the first film would go all the way through Mirkwood. I have no clue is LEGO already had a set designed for it but opted against releasing for the first film. If they did, it may be easy to use it if they do not have to start from scratch. I doubt that TLG would release Mirkwood spider and Barrel Escape in the next wave. But they will likely continue to make it available for stores to order. Some LEGO sets have a longer shelf life than others.
  23. I think we may get a Beorn's house in the December wave. I agree with other posters that a Orc v Elf battle pack is possible.
  24. I think they will use the existing bear mold. We can hope that it will have different printing though.
