  1. Be true to yourself. I collected LEGO from 13 to 18. I stopped as life got busy with college. I only got back into it at 38 You are not too old for it. I think if you start getting into MOCs people will see the creativity that it takes to design and build a stylish model. I still kick myself for giving away my earlier sets as they are very sought after classics now. On topic, I really hope we get Thor II sets. I had to buy Vikings sets long after they were released and I want the Asgard builds and styles from this movie. Licensed minifigs and the collectible minifigs have the best designs. I want an Odin, Sif, and Heimdall.
  2. No confirmation from TLG but I think it is safe to presume that we will get a least one more LotR wave in June 2014. I am skeptical that the LotR line will last longer than that. I thoroughly enjoy the line. It is what brought me back from my dark ages and I hope it will continue.
  3. They are over doing the Big Figs. The Hulk, Blog, and Juggernaut are all good. Colossus is wrong. I am not familiar enough with The Rhino to know. I doubt we will see all of them in plastic though.
  4. I am planning my first City MOC. It would be a bicycle shop with two floors of apartments above it. Even though I have not bought any modulars yet, I want to build this to be compatible. How many studs deep are those buildings? What is the placement of the pin bricks? I searched online for a bit but could not find this info. Thank you.
  5. I go through phases of fatigue when I think of the ones that don't appeal to be. However, each release they come up with something that really impresses me. I get all the figures I want in a few weeks and swear off the wave. But then as I check for good deals each week, I get a few to meet the LEGO craving. I don't need them but it is hard to walk down a LEGO aisle and not buy something. A CMF package is to a large set as a candy bar is to a buffet.
  6. I agree with Faefrost and Pogie. I hinted at that when I said I support one of your CUUSOO projects. I did not click support on any of the others. There was too many. I just went with the one that appealed to me the most. You can tell this is true across the board as your different projects have different levels of support. LEGO is not going to introduce a line of products under CUUSOO, but when they introduce one that is highly successful, such as Minecraft, they are willing to make more sets later. There appears to be a demand for these ancient cultures with AFOLs at least. They include some in the CMF line. We all want one project to show that fans will support actual sets of them. I truly hope your project is a success and LEGO follows up with more similar sets.
  7. Mifody, I was planning on gutting a cavalry member to make that robber a fleshie, but I LOVE your idea to took my extra Lone Ranger for that.
  8. I bet that Corydoras is correct. It is a SNOT technique using the hinged blocks. It is excellent. I also laughed at the joke about your wife taking the knowledge of how to orient pictures correctly with her.
  9. Monk with a tonsure (bald spot in the middle of the head). No religious symbols are necessary. Ancient Chinese or Japanese style archer Greek hero (Perseus) Victorian era women Girl in petticoat Modern astronaut in blue jumpsuit (flight patch printing on arm) Ballerina Barista
  10. I really like the building style of Laketown. If it wasn't for the boat (similar to the Viking ship I already had) I might consider getting multiple. As it is, I hope they have a smaller Laketown set that can be combined with this one.
  11. Looks good. We have every reason to assume it is not exclusive. They don't claim that and it is a new mold. It is just our preview minifig for this winter. Though I am scared that it is exclusive and am debating whether to go into bankruptcy to buy it.
  12. Favorites: Constable and Scarecrow Want: Bavarian Girl welder Blues Brother X2 Might be nice: Barbarian Tiki Warrior Holiday Elf Grandma Scientist Waitress (but I would have to switch out heads. Yikes) The only army builder for me is the Constable. When the list of minifigs was first leaked, I planned on skipping the series. That is no longer the case.
  13. Clearance has begun. The local Target has marked down all but the stagecoach Lone Ranger sets. I would have got the Colby City Showndown for $35 but the Dark Knight Rises set was also marked down to that amount. EDIT: $27.98 for the Dark Knight Rises set. The Lone Ranger teepee was down to $13.98 as well. I fetched the receipt after my obvious error on the Batman set.
  14. There are LEGO firefighters but it is 80% male. I don't think that is a real issue. http://shop.lego.com/en-US/LEGO-City-Fire-Accessory-Set-850618 http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Fire-Station-60004 And at least one other where you have a house on fire But just as often women are included in the City sets in order to be rescued. These include: http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Fire-Chief-Car-60001?CMP=KAC-SAHGOOGLEUS&HQS=60001&adtype=pla http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Flatbed-Truck-60017 It is too much to demand a toy company to solve issues such as misogyny and stereotypical gender roles but I think LEGO has made progress. They just need to continue to make some progress. In the end it is up to the market, children, parents, and relatives, to either embrace these changes or not.
  15. I found the Feminist Frequency video well reasoned, but it also shows how much of an improvement LEGO has made with Friends over other attempts to market to girls. I say market as this thread was filled with examples of girls and women that still found the other LEGO sets appealing. One of my sisters was a huge fan in her childhood and I give her Frank Lloyd Wright sets for birthdays and Christmases. I have a grade school niece that enjoys Star Wars, Castle, and Friend sets. I feel that all lines, Friends or not, need to do a better job including both genders. City needs more females and Friends needs at least a few boys. But lets not sacrifice the good for the perfect since no toy line will ever be perfect. I believe that the Friends line has brought more girls to the LEGO experience. Yes, some of the sets do reenforce stereotypical behavior but not all of them. If it was necessary to make a different size person for these sets, it was worth it. It appears to help that Friend sets are located on a girls toy aisle. But if they do that, they also need make some of the assorted brick boxes purple and set them in the same aisle. This way Friends fans can expand on the sets and build bigger and more complex designs. I am a big fan of LEGO and will give sets as gifts at the drop of a hat. For the last two Christmases I have adopted different third grade girls. In addition to their needs such as warm clothes, I provided them with the gift that they asked for Disney faerie doll one year and a Monster High doll the next. But last year I was able to include a small Friends set as well. If I was to give a random girl any other LEGO set, it likely would have been rejected. But colors and the doll style is camouflage enough for us to get the experience to those kids who otherwise would be left behind. Not every girl needs Friends to get into LEGO but obviously some do.
  16. There is already one in Special LEGO Themes. I just wanted to take the worry out of The Lone Ranger theme that it might kill off Western for a while. To keep this on topic, I really appreciate the Calvary Builder set. It fits my desire for historical minifig and could be half of a Civil War MOC or the cannon can be added to the Series 10 Revolutionary Soldier for a Revolutionary War scene. I wish this theme the best but if I see any good deals on clearance... I will pounce on them.
  17. If the Brickshow is to be believed, the Western theme will not die with The Lone Ranger. They are reporting 17 The LEGO Movie sets that include some Western theme sets.
  18. The only Comic Con exclusive I regret not having is Phoenix. Still I think that whole exclusive route is bad business. To generate buzz, TLG should do exclusive previews but then release the figures in sets 6-9 months later. That makes these figs special for those at CC but does not create a perverse incentive to buy as many as possible and auction them at inflated rate. If someone pays $1000 for a Spiderman from this con, TLG gaves a small fraction of that? Why do it? You can get the hype from real customers by making them previews. If TLG ever do this to LotR lines, say making Gamling only ever available at CC, I would probably walk from the line completely.
  19. At least one of my local targets have put the Mirkwood spiders sets on clearance. Only marked down $2.50 but that was the only Hobbit set they marked down. I doubt that either set will be carried over into the next wave. I am really hoping for some excellent minifs from the next Hobbit wave. With the exception of Bagend, I was disappointed with the other builds in this line.
  20. I think that only thing that LEGO LotR fans can agree on it Battle Packs. I personally would love some new army building molds such as Gondorian helmets. I think Gondor soldiers need printing on separate armor so it does not appear the same as the Uruk Hai armor. The Series 9 knight might work. Aside for that, I do want the Balrog, Treebeard, Eowyn v Witchking, old Theodon in the Golden Hall Meduseld. I think a white tree set showing the crowning of Aragorn would be nice too.
  21. If TLG has already created the design for a minifig, then the game will reflect that design. If not, the game developers will create their own design. Character designs in video games MIGHT be what we get or they might not. The fun is the speculation. I personally don't care for the Fantastic Four but I wish those fans the best and that they get the minifigs that they want.
  22. 1) No hinge on the welding mask but printed sweat on the minifigure head. No extra hair either. 2) A blocky mask for the tiki warrior. 3) The scarecrow will have a normal body but a new mold for the sack cloth head 4) No cape for the barbarian. He will be armed with a claymore style sword 5) No cake for grandma. She will have curlers in her hair. She would be paired with grandpa 6) Trombone or trumpet 7) The waitress might have the rollerskates but 8BrickMario is probably right about a 1X2 studless printed plate for her note pad. 8) The Bavarian Lady will have a mug suggesting Octoberfest without being explict since kids collect this too. 9) The mountain climber may have cold weather gear but needs picks to climb sheer rock faces. 10) The Constable will be a British bobbie. Hopefully one that would work for present day MOCs as well as Victorian ones. These are just my thoughts. What do you guys think?
  23. Great MOC. I would say it was lovely but you made it the perfect run down auto repair shop. That gives this build more character. My favorite part is the junky lot.
  24. Great work. At first I thought it was a microscale build. It really could have worked both ways until we see the turkey on the table. My favorite section is the tree.
  25. Excellent build. It really has the feel of a coffee shop and a small apartment.
