The ball cups and balls used in Mixels are placed on plates, that is within the BRICKS system. The balls are shared with the TECHNIC system, where it's used for suspension linkages. If there is going to be themes in constraction, and which, I have no clue. I have seen new feet parts and CCBS parts in new colours though, but maybe these were just try-outs that actually are not going to be used in real sets. Erland Part Design.

Is this a genuine Lego Liftarm?
Front replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I really doubt that any prototypes from LEGO was made in that size (half width, 16 holes beam). It is simply too weak, will break too easy when a bending load is applied, even when made in the best materials LEGO use. The L 4x4 arm is not even with the cored out areas between the holes. Shapeways Custom Lego Parts
Front replied to TasV's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I do a lot of LEGO prototypes in Objet and SLS, and always make holes bigger and shafts a bit smaller. Else there will be problems during assembly. Especially if you do cross axles, you really need a loser fit. Erland Part Design -
Very cool build and photography. I just watched the four Alien movies like weekend

No, that's a Technic piece: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=61071

Canisters cost money, I would rather like that the inside contains more bricks. Not sure what constraction sets/themes if any will appear in 2014. Haven't checked. Front Part Design

I just finished my build of the SUV Mk2. It was really cool to build something with complex instructions, instead of the very detailed and "no need to think" standard LEGO building instructions. I could actually feel that my brain had to work, and it forced me to better understand what I was building. How the actual subassemblies etc. would work. The SUV Mk2 weighs 1570 grams including batteries in a standard battery box. Must say it looks great. Mine is pimped with gold rims from an old Batmobile set. It's all black like in the instructions, but I might try and a a 3 module wide yellow stripe down the center of the vehicle. Should be possible to build it in white (panels, beams, axle connectors etc.).

New 6 hole rims at 42000 and 9398
Front replied to rm8's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The new walls on the rims are not reinforcements, they are there to make the assembling of rim and tire easier. -
Is it the first LEGO part ever to have exactly 9 studs ? :-)

The three round holes should be in the other direction, though would be seen in the left view of Anchir's drawing of his 3M C-Beam version. When I designed the 3M C-Beam, it was originally applied cross holes in each side. Because of the deformations the ball cups sees when you put a ball inside, the cross hole dimensions change too much, not securing a proper function of a shaft in the cross hole. The cross hole function could be satisfied with a normal cross axle, but not when inserting a shaft. Did you know that the function of the 3M C-beam, the friction, is higher with two balls inserted than just one ? The cups are so close together that they actually have an effect on each other. And certainly on a cross hole in between as explained above. Adding two balls between the cups in the 3M C-beam is properly never going to work. The ball cup geometry get altered so much, that it may be hard to secure the function of the cup, and more so the strength. The balls simply stiffen the cup deflection too much. Erland Part Design

These are some neat parts. At work I always try and persuade the constraction team to introduce more bone pieces. We have been making a lot of prototypes, I myself have been making the two parts furthest left and right in the first picture in original post. But I've had a lot more ideas to bones, as has a lot of the constraction designers. But there is a limit to what can be introduced each year, and new pieces are required for many other things than just bones. Feet, armor shells, weapons, decoration pieces etc. Erland Part Design

[MOC] Another Worriz-Cragger combiner : a two-headed monster.

Cool. I guess you are using exactly the pieces from the two sets and nothing more ? -
Really nice shapes on torso and legs.

Thanks to designer Matt for doing this set http://flic.kr/p/9kYmwR

I think the print is kind of metallic, also in the red colour. But I guess it's a standard red.

The towball connection has in principle zero friction, there is a small gap between the ball and the lips. The new ball cup graps the ball tight, creating friction that can support quite some weight (or moment = weight at a distance). I can't (will not) comment on the amount of new parts or if any existing parts have been redesigned. Time will tell you. Erland Part Design

I'm so pleased to see the new ball joint connection system revealed. Been working for many months engineering these. They open up all new methods of building with LEGO Bricks. They fit quite well into the Bricks system, allowing creatures to be made with ball joints, but also allowing builds with all possible 3D-angles. Look forward to see what the community can build with these new parts. Erland Part Design

A portfolio (and a good application) may help you get considered for the workshop, but what really matters is how you perform at the workshop, how you address challenges and develop ideas. And first off all how your personality fit into the LEGO company spirit. Not that I ever applied for a job at LEGO, they phoned me :-) Erland Part Design

The build looks fantastic. I like the asymmetry and colour scheme. Sorry for not reading your story, stories have never interested me....

Hero Factory Month - Index and Discussion

To me it seems that nobody claims your built brain actually has to look even remotely like the pre-fabricated brain of the sets. Use the imagination. Maybe I'll enter something, although my time for building is very limited right now. But if I win something (highly unlikely) I would donate the set to somebody I like. I can just buy a set anytime and go to the designer and have it signed Erland Part Design -

Just an advice. Oven tests is a destructive test, the bricks will never get their clutch power back again. Erland Part Design. -
You are right I probably should not have added the spikes on his hips. Does not really fit in. But it could be devices used to climb trees. Edit: fixed typing errors in this and original post.
