Please help me decide between Fantasy Era of LOTR/Hobbit
SirBlake replied to Ritsz's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I personally would mix and match and have fun with that. If you're really wanting to focus on the sets, for my taste LOTR/Hobbit is far superior as far as set selection. I've got lots of crownies, which I think are great designs, but for the most part, I can't stand fantasy era set designs (drawbridge and MMV being the big exceptions there) so I got most of the minifigs separately from bricklink. With Lego castle, kingdoms, etc, I think they all fit within the same universe. 80's forestmen look right at home next to the newer kingdoms castle, for instance. -
Yup, all of that. We can all see it, where is TLG's brain?

That sucks. No Gondor = Lego fail. Such a missed opportunity. So much potential money lost because they didn't have the sense to build out wave 2 correctly. What a disappointment.

Yeah, but that's easy to understand. With pics, we'll actually have something to talk about. For now, it's nothing but speculation and I think we're all out of things to speculate about.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion

Man, I am dying to know what the rest of this series looks like. So we're thinking a Comic Con reveal, is that right? If so, that's another 3 weeks away.- 1,109 replies

Very nice! I too am a big fan of this set and did some similar mods. I particularly like how you handled the side coves below the doors and the back end is nice too. Good work!

I've got a local Walmart with most of the second wave on the shelves. Some sets sold out though.

These are all good thoughts. I don't see another licensed fantasy property on the horizon, but IF the license is essentially paid for through 2015, I think they could still profit from even a tiny 2 or 3 set wave of LOTR if the sets are well chosen.
-
That is an interesting idea that I hadn't considered: movie sets taking position over other lines. I think the vacuum left when the movie line is gone could be our best opportunity for a third wave of LOTR. Fingers crossed.

This is wonderful! Too many great details to list. I'll have to spend some serious time with these photos. Nice work!

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
SirBlake replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Maybe this is a language barrier issue, but I have no idea what you mean. I'm not all that concerned with gender counterparts. We've just seen lots of pointy-hat wizards. I'd love to see a fantasy sorceress, good or evil, just for variety.- 1,109 replies

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion

This list sounds fantastic! Oh how I have missed regular CMFs. Movie and Simpsons series were fine, but I'll be glad to get back to normal with the regular line, with or without video game tie-in. Many of these are evocative of those concepts that the French (I think) artist put together, many of which have since come to pass. If these are real, I'll be getting all of the historical/fantasy figs. My only hope is that the wizard is actually a sorceress.- 1,109 replies

I don't know how I missed this last month, but I love it! I'll have to give this a shot. Looks like fun. The tow truck is a great idea.

So how does that work? The contract/license expires so retail shelves get cleared. What happens to the product? Surely it doesn't get destroyed. Where does it go?
-
Man, this is really fantastic. One of the best I've ever seen.

Because it's a licensed product tied to a film that doesn't come out until December. You know, spoilers and all.

Gondor bp hands down. Witch king showdown is great and all, but the simple fact is, I have to vote for the one thing that LOTR is missing. We have ring wraiths, we have Rohan soldiers, and we have no Gondor represented. This set will be my winner unless some sort of Mina's Tirith set becomes an option.

Hello & asking for set recommendations
SirBlake replied to Davidbarrena's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Same here. I left one Helm's Deep assembled and used a second for parts. Also got a lot out of Uruk-Hai Attack (x6) Honestly though, I think the best parts source is going to be buying used bricks. I've had a lot of luck with some eBay, but better with connections through people I know. Once the word got out that I was an AFOL, I'd hear about teenagers looking to unload their old collections through friends and family. I've gotten a lot of affordable bricks that way. -
Love it! Nice contemporary application to a classic theme.
