  1. This is a top 5 most favorite MOC I've ever seen. Absolutely astounding! It's huge, but feels like a small part of a much bigger world. I'm going to have to spend a lot of time with this one.
  2. I just block it out using big simple pieces and then the ways to improve become apparent. I probably build a single MOC 3 or 4 times because I take major sections off and rebuild them. It's actually quite fun this way and works well when you're limited by parts. In fact, I've found that parts limitations can be quite useful in coming up with solutions that you otherwise wouldn't have found if you had unlimited parts to work with.
  3. I've built up spare bricks a few ways, whether it's buying sets on sale or going to my local used Lego store (Minifigs, Bricks and more in Denton, Tx), but by far the greatest additions have been made by purchasing collections from kids who wanted video game money. One, a friend found at a garage sale and called me, the other was a student of my wife's (high school teacher). I got lucky on those, but they were incredible scores that beat anything eBay or brick link could offer.
  4. Hahah, oh yeah. "All but one" would be more accurate.
  5. Cool, thank you very much. October is too fat away though. :-/
  6. I know it's been mentioned, but I can't find the answer: do we have a confirmed date for availability of this series?
  7. All of my main wishes are covered in your list. I will say that an armored Sauron with toy story Woody proportions would be really nice.
  8. These are very cool. I've visited all in person (saw reunion tower today). Thanks for sharing!
  9. This is so cool. Proportions look good and it's apparent that there are a thousand tiny decisions that got you to this point. Nice work!
  10. I stand by my statement. I don't hate the set but feel it's over priced. I'm happy you're happy, but there's nothing wrong with being disappointed, and many of us feel there's plenty of reason to be.
  11. Whoah, those things are serious. Looks cool!
  12. In this instance, I will enjoy being blunt: We aren't beggars. We are consumers and as such, have the right to voice our opinions when we feel that a product is being mishandled as this one surely is. Would I take what we got over no middle earth at all? Well of course, but this isn't an all-or-nothing scenario. This is the fan base, kids and AFOLs alike, that keep TLG in business and it is they that serve us, not the other way around.
  13. It's wonderful to finally get pics! I'm on the same page with everyone else as far as the highlights and disappointments in this wave. If TLG misses an opportunity to repurpose that dwarf helmet in a polybag (or any other way for that matter), I really have to question their judgement. A generic dwarf soldier would sell out almost instantly.
  14. Enough about global economics and exchange rates, where's the WhiteFang review of this series?
  15. You know, I wasn't thrilled with that set at first, then I modded it to be a bit more substantial and now I really like it. The design and minifigs are quite good, it just doesn't feel like enough of a build until you add to it.
  16. Love the chess set idea! Seems doubtful to have Gondor soldiers since it would require a new helmet mold at least, but I'd be all over that.
  17. All of this. Kingdoms brought me back from my dark ages and middle earth kept me out. I'd love quality sets and heraldry like Kingdoms with classic factions brought back.
  18. Part of that equation is worrisome because ninjago/chima often somehow includes wacky helicopters and tanks. Unlicensed, named characters/story have not worked that well with castle in the past. But the rest of what you're saying, I like it a lot. If we were looking at traditional roll playing fantasy archetypes, that could be really fun. CMF level detail and character. There's some potential there.
  19. I think you're right about that part usage. Same with the wizard's hat. I don't mind the color on the princess though. I like the variety.
  20. Love it! Again, coming from a historic perspective, so many great choices here. My favorite has to be the princess. That hat/hair piece is great, and it's crazy to think that it took over 30 years to get a good one. The Hun's shield is awesome, as is the greek goddess. I'm not in love with the jester, but the colors are unusual, which is fun. I'll get one just for variety. We've gotten a bunch of blue wizards in the past, but the new conical hat is a nice touch. Still wish it was some sort of sorceress though.
  21. I think this is a great set for $100. For $130, not so much. I'm actually pretty happy with the set in general. Sand green is interesting and the dwarves architecture is apparent. I think they did a great job with Smaug. Minifig selection could be better, but I think there's a chance for the other sets will make up for that. It's not perfect, but there's a lot about it to be happy about. For me at least.
  22. So very cool. I don't even know where to start except to say that you executed an inspired idea exceptionally well. Thanks for sharing!
  23. Wonderful landscape. Very serene.
  24. Don't toy with my emotions, Draks. I'm fragile.
