  1. I think it's an average series. Rehashings are inevitable, but it doesn't come out as good as TLM series. I personally think the very first leaked group are the true outstanding ones. It's alittle letdown not to see six ladies again like what TLM was, but they're still okay. Rock Star - based on the fact that there have been many other cool hairstyles in Rock Band, I'd say I'm not willing to see a reused Rock Girl hair in this case. Obviously the cost is for the new guitar so there won't be another hairpiece. Hun Warrior - the best one among the bunch that haven't been leaked IMO. Lifeguard - an okay figure, but not better than the two from series 2. If TLG want to make him outstanding, I hope that his Club Max hairstyle get some special colors and streaks. Fairytale Princess - I think it's much more like a contribution to old classic Castle figures, not a more improved and sophisticated princess like those Disney characters. Genie Girl - she looks okay but I hope she to be more like a counterpart to the Genie Guy who didn't look like human. Is her harstyle as same as the Dino Tracker? Jester - it's all what we predicted. And not sure if poker cards are appealing enough to FOLs. Pizza Guy - this kind of figure could have been put in previous City sets that came with Pizza restaurants. Of coure he is here for what he can give us (at hand).
  2. I'd say that opinion is more about the future of LEGO LotR, not the AC topic, even though you might be correct, you should discuss it in the subforum. And realistically speaking, keeping same themes for ACs does bore many FOLs. It's not a silly or meaningless topic.
  3. In TLC's view, they would regard City and Friends both as necessary regulars, while SW has a faithful fanbase. Friends is the only girls-oriented theme (unless Disney princesses takes the place for once) so it's functinoally important. I would never mind to see City rotated, but TLC is definitely not willing to do that. I assume that it's not very easy to make Ninjago embrace the winter holiday elements as a seasonal set. Each nanja and enemy has to wear something Xmassy and it wouldn't relate to the fomal story. It might be easier for Chima. It may just tell that several tribes are holding festival together. TLM would be a very strong choice for ACs. Unlike Ninjago, it may be regarded as an after story (Mr Business is celebrating with his bots), and it can also be a replacement for City. The main problem is the very limited advertising period of TLM. The release time of ACs (before Xmas Eve) didn't cover the theater time or DVD release time of TLM. Even though there would be some SDCC exclusives, we're not sure if common consumers would buy TLM ACs after so many months. A better chance is to expect TLM2 to be release in autumn, then sell the TLM AC at the same time. For other licensed themes, the only one that is as powerful as SW might be Superheroes, and I can see that happen.
  4. It's very pleasant to have your reply. I simply used the original pic in my flickr, so I'm sure it's not the best resolution I can provide. If they update their color selections (mainly the dark tan skin) and prices in the future, I'd spare some time to improve my other arts and order again. I guess pad printing is still the winner currently, but much like DarkKnight7 said you have to find local companies and print a certain amount.Oh, and I ordered ten heads in total. The rest are currently preserved for other projects.
  5. So far Dastan and Luke's haircuts are both currently used by generic female and male, but since most LEGO City ladies still use make-ups, waistlines are not that important IMO. I'd agree it's dissapointing to see some shorter female hairstyles discontinued or rare in new sets, such as the classic pigtails or Dolores. Unless the this is the "short hair style" you're talknig about.....
  6. Judging from the value of reuse in future sets, Wyldstyle's helmet is a difficult one. Emmet's helmet can be used in future City cosntruction sets since it covers Emmet's most imortant physical trait (the little spikes). Gail's one is similiar those riding helmets from Friends (which covered the heroines' original looks) so it can be for more generic women. The only chance for Wyldstyle's helmet is that her hairstyle would be used on more generic girls.I was actually alittle surprised with the one in black hood, but not sure if it can be reused for other characters. Business' smile face worthes much more than those SDCC exclusives, seriously.
  7. Of courese we don't have to apply the one rule to all themes. In Chima's case, most male warriors have obvious muscles while females have waistlines (well even though ladies could have muscles too). Their gender is more obscure than human so those prints help sometimes, The action theme backstories could also tell us which of them are guys (Ewald, for example) so we don't have to rely on prints all the time. The truth is, make-ups don't belong to women biologically. this should actually depend on how the designs work. For example, Fabu-fan's face doesn't look feminine though she has waistlines, while the police women have makeups but no waistlines. That wouldn't make them recognized as guys. Nobody says we can't have feminine prints, but the problem might be that we do lack prints that look "less feminine" for girls. In guys' part, we have many male faces and we can classify them as "muscline" or "non-muscline" (example: Metalbeard versus Emmet). But in girls' part, "non-feminine" designs like Fabu-fan seem to be very rare. I personally think hairpieces should be strong enough to represent the genders and make up for those figs who don't have pretty faces or waistlines, though some may argue why guys can't have long hairstyles.
  8. That's a good point. In the most limited situation, suppose that TLG can only provide a specific number of torsos, I might say that I wouldn't like to have a curvy torso because it can't be swapped with guys (well, unless you want a male character to have curves.....). In the forest police case, well, TLG was able to provide two prints for both genders, that's nothing wrong actually. You may still create a forest police woman with no curvy line if you like that.Oh, and you remind me that the new torso does look good on a doctress. Hope that TLG would do so in the future. Uh..... I thought I specified that ninja is purple. The Mrs Doubtfire metaphor is great even though she's not smiling. Anyway, I agree that when the figs are wearing a hat, giving feminie prints could make the figs more recognizeable. However, in real world there are women who don't have femine faces. Adding some combinations of feminine hairpieces+neutral faces would give the female figs more diversity. Recently TLG also introduces many hats with extended hair part, such as Gail's worker hat. In those cases you don't have to rely on their faces.
  9. No one want the Western Town? Okay, but to be realistic it doesn't mean there would be another wave to be the filler between TLM1 and the sequel. If it comes, this is the best Xmas gift for us. I'm not really a fan of citizens, though I agree with the customization point. I'm inclined to see more veteran master builders. For the main characters, obviously those who joined later didn't achive their full potentials. If the main cast rermain the same hope that our Lord Uni-KItty, Benny and Metalbeard would take the lead.
  10. If LEGO haven't given up Castle, I guess Forestmen is still a very feasible and possible choice in the future. My personal pick is Western. If licensed themes count, it has to be Avatar series. My personal question is, if Adventurers is considered as an action theme, can it appeal kids as much as the current LEGO action themes do? I assume that new action themes seem to do more things with battles or powers, while Adventurers was based on some common movie plot elements. If TLG want to appeal kids, the newer storyline would need some significant changes. Or it may just stay as a Historic-Action theme that older FOLs would buy.
  11. Okay. I randomly made some LDD figures that has no recognizeable female faces or hourglass waistlines. What do you guys think? left to right: a fire fighter, a police woman, the purple ninja, a royal housekeeper chief (maybe) I don't say that isn't a problem. Yes, the stereotypes still lay in most parents' hearts and this would affect children when they see the products. I personally think hairstyles are the most recognizeable items for consumers to determine figures' gender before those prints. Perhaps, if a generic character wants to use a neutral hairpiece (like Dastan's), she might have to use waistline or makeup to make her gender abit more obvious. It's hard to blame TLG for not making most licensed designs generic. On the contrary, for example, should Superman and Batman get rid of their muscles in order to leave us room for customizing Supergirl or Batgirl? I'm more inclined to support the use of generic minifigure parts in most cases. The CMFs might be a source of customization, but they're often given a certain design to represent that image. But yes, it's sometimes frustrating to find that you may not use that torso just because of the waistline. So far most female city figures who are police, fire fighters or the new thief this year, don't have recognizeable waistlines. They just share the torso prints with their pals and that's a good thing, though women in LEGO City without makeups are still pretty rare. And the two prints are from The LEGO Movie where most female characters use makeups. The complaints seem to be pretty late.
  12. Just regarding to the main idea of playing LEGO, the main reason why makeups and waistlines aren't welcome should be that this restricts our choices of custimzation of oridinary minifigures, not because it has something to do with anti-sexism. We don't really have to erase all makeup eyelashes---- it's just one of things that exist in our real world and some women do need to live with those things. But still, I do hope that more normal sets could come with ladies with normal body shape (or even fat, even though it's usually obscure for minifigures) and use neutral faces that are usually for male minifigures. Or at least introduces some female faces that don't look "pretty" or "want to be pretty" The combination of the RI set was okay, but yeah, maybe the "diversity" is not good enough. I don't think it should be a topic under sexism. Make it simple, if you're not a FOL, those criticisms are probably not "pratical" enough for TLC to know.
  13. Thank all of your praises and supports above sincerely. Now here is a small but different update. I recieved the print ordered from Minifiglabs, which was referred in Whitefang article about their recent World Cup 2014 series. Whitefang already well explained what technology Minifiglabs used for their prints. Here are what I got from the order: five light flesh heads. ... oops, sorry for my bad camera. What I can tell you is, the prints aren't as perfect as official LEGO products, that's for sure. The prints are generally close to what they were as the original electronic artworks. But somehow there are some uneven roughness on the surface, which feels abit like being carved. There are also some very tiny bubbles that you may not notice at farsight. Their look after putting on minifigures with hairpieces. Here is the question: are the Minifiglabs prints worthy? I don't have other custom prints at hand to compare, but generally they're not as good as the World Cup figs directly designed and produced by the team. This might depend on the resolution of your actual artworks. Currently, as far as we know, there are very few companies willing to provide small account of custom minifigures for single end-users. MINIFIGS.ME, for example, is one of the custom print provider. They have a more complete servic but with higher price. This situation would dissapoint some non-FOLs who just watched LEGO cartoons and wanted to begin their own custom journey. If you're able to afford their price, Minifiglabs is still a very feasible choice for you to realize your dream. The current problem is their lack of provided colors of parts (as you can see there's no update for Andrea). I hope that they can solve their own technology issues and get more color/part choices (and most important, lower prices ) in the future. This would be a good news to Asian and worldwide customizers.
  14. Alexandre's concepts had some fairytale characters, but he expected to have an independent generic fairytale theme for them. For the CMF series, TLG is able to make those human fairytale characters for sure, but not sure if they would like to directly invent real animal heads instead of costumes. If they can do it for Minotaur or Werewolf (MF), maybe it's not difficult for 3LPs?
  15. Well I may imagine them as circus members, party pals or kindergarten babysitters. Or if you're into Chima and you're good at customization, the molds are also good materials.
  16. I personally don't mind to see new Police set every season---- only if Police doesn't monopolize the whole wave once again. Maybe they could just cut the number and leave some space for every subtheme. Oh, so where is the Arctic Police? The alternative way is to develop a Police Academy story and treat it like an action theme. That might interest FOLs and keep them following from year to year. But I guess TLG would still keep the backstory as generic as possible, much to Undercover's dismay. It's nice to see more themes cover the range of LEGO buildings (Creator, Friends etc), but I believe some buildings should still belong to City theme. Central train stations, museums.... those public things. The buildings from 2013 Police-themed sets are ok, but they're not treated as well as the Grand Police Station after all. He got fired and found a job in railway bureau.
  17. Thanx to all supports above! Absolutely like her. Well Benny and Emmet were actually made to be like oldstyle LEGO minifigures, but their expressions can be shown on their faces. The old townie hairpiece recently appeared in .The pics below don't really fit in Special Theme forum, but I can't find right topics to post so far. If anyone find, please inform me A warning to all kids who buy animal bolybags: This is how we treat the holy inventor of Perfect Match Machine.
  18. Greater Eagle It recenty turns out that Mr. Krab didn't actually own the license of his own restaurant. Miary Jane ps, here is a minidoll version if anyone needs. A sensible Pet
  19. Great car mod and thoughtful idea. It's a color palette that wouldn't be in Friends line, and I'd love to see more fashion-forward cars for minidolls.
  20. Thanx, my amnesia again. Unfortunately now we won't get more explanations from LEGO to ensure that all Zelda projects are rejected for the same reason. Since there have been licenses that Team Ideas actively recommended (eg, Doctor Who), I wonder if they may also actively show that some licenses are not welcome in this website. If the license owners have shown direct rejections, it may be just written down in the rules. Now we only know that Super Mario is now owned by K'Nex, the rest business things are not clear. The simplest answer could be that Nintendo's license fee is much larger than any other company. The updates or new ideas based on existed themes are quite subjective, but yes, this kind of thing can't be called "innovation" and not all people would love to afford that.
  21. Ordering LEGO Club isn't available in my country, so sorry for not having an issue on hand. I'm curious about in which condition would TLC use colored minifigures in official things, but I guess they won't be physical.
  22. I would expect those "uncodified" rules to be actually writtens in the rule page so that creators can save their time for other projects. Well TLC have claimed several times that Zelda's are rejected for improper designs (aka need original molds that TLC can't afford, which is another uncodified rule?).
  23. I think the minidoll long skirt is closer to my original expectation. They're, at least, able to bend their body forward and sit on something. The slopes don't do anything in actions, neither does Maggie. If TLG did, things would end up like this: It's hard to tell, the designers have given us chicken and manbat hands, they may give us a new body design, but they might also want to keep the slopes since series 2.
  24. Well...yeah. I would expect a version with hairband, but at least Gwen won't become another Storm if she would be in any future set. He's okay to me. Indeed he's alittle similar with the Swashbuckler. At least he's better for having a new hat and a white Wiley beard. He's an okay filler in Pirate or Western theme, but nothing more I can do with him for now.
