  1. So there is a hood with the cape? Obviously you never bought any Mixels polybag. But it's nice to know that CMF Friends series could excite many FOLs.
  2. I think that sounds inappropriate. We don't enforce boys or certain customers to buy a certain product, but we shoudln't indicate that "LEGO Friends and any other girly things are NOT LEGO" no matter whether that reason is direct or indirect. Also, after all there have been several girly CMFs, which is a fact and isn't doing with the packages or advertising.I did wonder why TLG wouldn't just have used Padme's hairpiece in a different color. Is that hairstyle licensed, or the new hairpiece is closer to another reference?
  3. Uh.... that only happens when that theme also gets a CMF series (which I'd definitely support), also Simpsons did use "blue" but in a lighter shade. We've obviously seen many generic themes with yellow packages.
  4. I think it's okay to have some neutral prints, but we don't have to increase the amounts by purpose. I'd say that there are many neutral faces fitting in female figs but rarely used in that way. Makeups are common in real life, so we don't need to reject female figs to have makeups. My concern is that most generic female figs are just trying to be pretty and smile all the time. Some newer face designs do try to get rid of that problem (ex, the TLM female citizens have more vivid expressions), but for now the diversity of generic face prints (for City and Creator sets) is not balanced between guys and girls. As for curves, in the same theory, guys can be categorized into muscline and non-muscline. I think it shouldn't be a problem for us to see some females who don't have that curvy bodies.
  5. I personally thought the reason why female characters are the major group in girls-oriented themes is that girls focus more on dressing characters. Male characters from the two girls' themes (Friends and Disney) so far are mostly positive, so I don't think they digust real world girls. On boys' side (which are majorly represented by minifigures), I assume it's more about stereotypes. Boys not only tends to use male figures to represent them, but may also think there shouldn't be too many girls involving in crime scenes or action scenes. This isn't a fact, but yes, commercial reasons force LEGO to do things activists don't like. I think it's correct for TLG to change the name into a generic, less activism-like one. This set could simply be a useful display for children to learn the professions, not for children to learn gender role only (again, boys may put their sigfigs into the scenes, there have been male scientists in LEGO world.). If this project was just meant for activism, a single product wouldn't make an end to the whole debate. This set should be a role model for more future Lego products.
  6. Despite I have the same opinion about the size of workshop, I think the photos look pretty good. The sleigh and the shop create a very beautiful scenery. This is good enough as a holiday set. The other concern is that a bigger building could have suited the price more.
  7. My personal comment is, we know the village buildings have been the stars of this series. I think some FOLs do really expect for another winter house since Winter Market from last year kept them wait for one more year. I give high scores to the reindeer sleigh and the machine, but the house is indeed a letdown. It doesn't look as good as the first Toy Shop. I do appreciate the idea, but I wish they can make a better house with a reasonable price. Honestly, I would have expected that Santa's house should be the best one among the whole village.
  8. I'd say I was waiting for Mrs Claus, it's alittle dissapointing to see that she doesn't have the CMF qualities as her counterpart has. The face and torso make me believe that she is actually the Lion Empress. The buildable reindeers are cuter than I thought, I wouldn't complain about the molds. I hope there could be an elf girl among the bunch, but it looks like we have to ask CFM for her.
  9. To me it's an average series ---- there are cons and pros as usual. Rock Star, Lifeguard, Pizza Man, Swashbuckler, Jester and Video Game Guy are the retro designs. The might suit some FOLs' needs, but half of them don't work for me. Also, I'm not sure if the retro designs match the increasing price. The rest of this series have done a very well job.I didn't notice that there are no characters with original head molds this time, though the previous series were just full of new head molds :p.
  10. Wow, it's totally what I was thinking about, those assumptions are really arbitrary. At least we can ensure that there would be more TLM products following future films :p.
  11. I don't know. Just based on the leak Oky mentioned, it sounds like there would be four (or multiples of four) more ninjas who are newcomers able to use the four elemental powers. They probably wouldn't get new representive colors like yellow or orange. Much like what has been going on in Korra this year. For Pixal, I like her, but I personally feel strange about her purple outfit that doesn't look as a bot secretary (Velma, the closest case, does). I'd agree if she ruined her original uniform and borrowed it from Nya.
  12. Uh, not to talk about making films for other companies, what about the rumored Ninjago movie and possible films for other unused themes? I'm a fan of TLM, but we need TLM2 to determine how good a sequel can be. Spinoffs sound nice, but when we talk about spinoffs, it usually reflects on "the main story", which is against the idea that there could be many things going on at the same time in the LEGO omniverse. And if there would be more LEGO movies based on single themes or a certain characters, I hope each of them could show the connections with the TLM.
  13. My opinion...... do LEGO advertisings show 100% gender equality? No. Are LEGO still marketing sets like what they used to? Uh, no, either. LEGO Ideas is already a proof that LEGO have added many different ways of advertisings in order to add what the public want. The whole controversies are not totally wrong, but unfortunately what TLC have to do is to appeal massive children who naturally love some stereotypical toys. They've left some room for other further trying, which should be the part we notice and praise. My criticism against LEGO is mainly Friends' marketing purpose, but it's not about whether Friends sets are too girly or against feminism. We've seen that the characters have got to do many non-stereotypical things, even though it hasn't reached its full potential. I'd agree with the article that the licensed and tie-ins are mostly action types for boys and off-putting to girls, who don't have other better choices beside Friends. Some former popular licenses for girls such as Avatar and Disney stories don't have much recent progress. This only leaves other Pixar films and the possible Despicable Me license in the future.
  14. Unfortunately that improvement was for the sake of CMFs, as TheLegoDr said. If any other figure reuse CMF designs, the ACs would be CMF-themed ACs, literally. That sounds nice too.Something different in Friends and SW is that they have Santa cosplays. Due to the fact City ACs don't use any other City regular, they would have to stick to the real Santa. Regardless of the beautiful box, I would say some other starter sets are better choices for simple supplement packs and Xmas gifts. Or in other words those who already afford large regular sets wouldn't be interested in these City ACs since they had everything at hand. The amount of minidolls might be an existed problem from regular sets. Simply in the case of ACs, only two figures and no Santa make Friends ACs less valuable. City feels more like the bang for the buck, despite most of the figures are not exclusive. Santa Business is definitely awesome. I can imagine that the main characters can get their own Xmas gifts in the blocks next to them. TLM could be the best choice for ACs among all original LEGO themes. Too bad it won't come this year
  15. Well that designer has to be smart enough in order not to violate any other uncodified rule, because team Ideas don't tell us the reasons anymore.
  16. I think the major issue is how these themes correspond to the holiday scenario. For City ACs, the minifigures are always like simple City figure packs, no winter clothes prints or winter uniform things. Also they seldom make use of subthemes, especially Arctic and Train could have been interesting choices for this year.Friends ACs aren't much better. They have nice winter clothes prints and good building contents, but the figures from each set are always two. Also, if TLG want to keep the minidolls in line with City, there should also be a minidoll Santa. I think SW has done a good job so far, while the other two themes should face the major issue: how to persuade FOLs to buy ACs every year? Even if they wouldn't change or add themes, they should make some significant changes to the contents every year.
  17. That's a nice point----- even though it sounds impossible. Suppose that the two brands may not be in the same set, they have to take turns. It's much like the whole TLM debate why Marvel wasn't there. The crossover thing would be discussed in regular sets first, not in ACs.
  18. Well, there have been buses in CITY, so it shouldn't be difficult for LEGO to make a sole school bus set. Since we've got Heartlake High last year, getting a CITY school is not the major demand for now. I'm not sure that education is the reason, but yeah, CITY Undercover didn't show any school thing or children-related crime. Let's hope schools or libraries would be the choices of future Creator/Modular sets.
  19. If you're replying to the City thread, there have even been no City schools, as I know. If Summer Riding Camp is sort of school, this is a school bus(van?) : The real official school bus is 10528 from Duplo, but I'm afraid that's not what you want. Weirdly school buses have appeared many times in Ninjago cartoon.
  20. Possibly, not until an upgrade version design of dragons is out would the ninjas ride dragons again. Female characters are here to fill the gap of plot needs but not product needs, Misako is the best example so far. Also, the only way for heroines to receive major attentions is to develop further interactions with the guys, and that is usually a new crush or a love triangle. It sounds inevitable, but I believe there are better ways to deal with it. The best solution is to directly add a female main ninja, which is almost dreamed by every fanon . Actually, since there would be more possible ninjas using the same elemental powers, there is a very good chance for us to get at least one official ninjago girl next year, which is a similar case with Li'Ella. > Although I would love to see crossovers between the different Lego TV shows. Yeah, big thanx to TLM.
  21. Okay that might be good news even though I'm pretty bored with the fact that the writers are obviously trying to draw attentions by hook. The only good thing is that Nya's love story isn't always happy and she has her struggles. But in the end it would never turn out like this:
  22. Unfortunately, even though there could still be some other set ideas based on Tolkien works, obviously the current LEGO LotR license is based on the film series of six. I think most AFOLs are reasonable enough and wouldn't expect more sets from TLC after the film series end for some time. The only thing we can expect is that TLC can release more sets based on previous LotR films until the final wave.On the other hand, despite being obviously successful, Disney's product range is still pretty limited compared with SW and SH. This could be owing to Disney's license restriction, or their natural marketing limits.
  23. Not sure about this. Avatar is the best example of a discontinued theme with ongoing popular works, while Superheroes and Star Wars do occasionally introduce several non-movie sets.Even though there aren't many examples, the other problem is, new films (that include prequels) mostly bring out new sets based on that film but no more based on previous ones (eg, Toy Story and Cars). In worse cases, it usually turns out that TLG have done with LotR things and just try to complete the final wave of Hobbits
  24. I guess the hairstyle of Genie Girl doesn’t really look like a Sumo bun since the Sumo bun is more smoothy. It may either be a Dino Tracker or Slave Leia one. Of course I’d definitely get the blonde slave ponytail for sure. Yeah. I love both, but for a City theme I don't really think the Pizza Guy and new Life Guard are good enough for CMFs. At most they looke like TLM set design quality.
  25. I can understand that, but it's still worthy discussing for LEGO since similar ACs from year to year is an obvious problem. I agree that some obscure or one-time themes can hardly be declared as an AC theme, but still the other new recurring action themes or TLM do have a bigger chance and potential market.
