I don't think gender issue is very obvious in this movie. There are many female CMFs and background characters in this film, and Wildstyle and Uni-Kitty do have eye-catching appearances. If the sequel still remain the old cast, I'd like to see Wildstyle and Uni-Kitty have more daring actions, and maybe one more new/old female character joins the cast (Mrs. Scratchen-Post?). But yes, excluding CMFs and original characters, the female power is kinda weak. Wonder Woman is the only visible licensed Master Builder among the bunch. For LEGO's old themes, I think Friends is the major issue since it's a theme full of female characters but has no representive here for audience girls. Simply considering physical products, I don't wish to see more recent CMFs and themes. I might recommend Gail Storm and some Fabuland ladies.

Simpsons Lego Episode to air this Sunday on Fox Network
Dorayaki replied to 5150 Lego's topic in Culture & Multimedia
It is counted as a regular episode in its list, I guess my country would get it. I guess I didn't see any discussion about this episode? If something wrong I'd just remove this reply. spoiler alert! First of all the character design is alittle debatable. As physical minifigures TLG wanted to make them as real as the characters, but the cartoon version try to make them more like normal minifigures with exchangeable headpiece. I wish the actual minifigures could take have the advantages from both versions: making the cartoon version figures longer heads, real noses, and this would be perfect. Plot part: the original part just began like TLM: a basement where a parent and a child share their brick interest. I guess some FOLs might not be happy to see Lisa's "dark age"--- she literally loses some interests in bricks temporarily and turns her attention to novels and movies. Lisa plays the role mostly because her elder brother doesn't play such kind of constructive thing. It's mostly due to the fact brick toy isn't a major part of Simpsons so it only exists in this episode instead of making Lisa go further (oh, but it would cost much more than raising a pony). But better than nothing, it at least reminds some parents that girls play bricks too and how they should support their kids' interests. Maybe Lisa would be back to bricks again if Hu... I mean that Survival Games could be one of the new licensed theme, and I'd totally support this. Also this episode ironically introduces a new castle set and a Springfield Elementary set, which are both in FOLs' dream but not in LEGO's schedule. Not to mention those non-physical Simpsons characters. D'oh!! Wish that this episode is for testing the targeted audience in order to make more sets. If it's merely a mini commercial ad for the single CMF series, it's just a totally wrong move for TLC. Oh and weirdly, even though Millhouse plays more bricks than Bart in their real life, it looks like Bart deserves the Master Builder title more than him. -
Thanx for your detailed and useful reply. I don't own other brands but I believe MB do try to catch up LEGO and their quality is getting better. Their current problem is their non-unified system scale and brand reliablity. Remember Transformers and GI Joe both belong to Kre-O/Hasbro and they'll never relate to LEGO. It's a pity that Hasbro didn't have any reation to the rejected CUUSOO My Little Pony project, maybe because they think it conflicts with regular playsets. Though Kre-O themes are not in my interest list, GI Joe does have some distinctive designs different from generic military themes by having distinctive soldier characters in their line. I'm no fan of Kreons though they do have distinctive desgins to differ from LEGO minifigures. CityVille Invasion's mini Kreons seem to use cheap money strategy along with their motion brick technology, but its target market might be smaller than LEGO's City Police and action themes. CMF is an intereseting point. Many other brands began their licensed/special series blind bags earlier than LEGO. TLG do obviously notice this and they'll probably do more next year. However, many licenses share the same problem that many characters repetitively appear in both blind bags and regular sets, which decrease my interests for them.

My toys were mostly chosen by my mother so I didn't have many choices, but I can remember that Paradisa was my favoraite part of LEGO.

LEGO Frozen anyone? (Expand the Disney Princess line)
Dorayaki replied to smittyfan's topic in LEGO Licensed
The second part is more like the main problem, which means even if Elsa sisters join, they could not be in Lego sets too. Nobody said Frozen has to be in Princess line to be Lego products, however, their theater time is ended and TLC is not likely to make a U-turn, a general franchise is left to be the only feasible choice. The third chance is making a sequel. But judging from the film history, excluding direct-to-video animation sequels, Disney animation sequel films scarcely happen, compared with Pixar films (though not sure if Brave 2 is also possible). -
That's indeed an disappoint to me. I don't feel very bothered to see her here. Tehcnically it's not difficult to make her (in long dark dress, with Andrea's hair in black). Lacking villains would be difficult for storytelling, which is the major conflict with other Lego licenses. Supporting characters are okay, but in this wave of sets none supporting characters are added so far. A full theme does give a story more sets, but unlike Superheroes, Disney Princesses only include fewer stories so maybe it doesn't create too many problems. But again, no news for the license is the current issue. I do believe a new film in theater time deserves a full theme, if TLG didn't make it too late . For other non-princess Disney classics or new films, it just depends on whether TLC is interested in them. Tinkerbell is a nice theme to compete COBI's Winx. However, there could be a conflict if TLG also want to make Peter Pan (or Jake the Pirate in minifigure scale). It might result in having PP and TB in the same size.

No need for apology. I'll find some time to start a new thread with proper content.

Looks like I'm lucky enough to regain my account. Well hope that it's not leading people to gain new accounts to make fake votes. There are some interesting changes in the homepage, but I guess I'm not happy with replacing the most supported column. Some of the top ones are not "the most popular this week", and it doesn't help the new rule that projects must achieve their goal since "popular ones" would achive faster than "most supported ones". Oh, and they dare to use the "Clutch Power". A good word to promote Lego Ideas!

Though Lego lines still have some gender issues, it feels like the non-girls-oriented themes under MB have a worse gender ratio. Pretty true, but in other words they're also in some conflicts too. At least not until all Hobbit/LotR things come to an end. And Warcraft would be another replacement of Castle.

Judging from the timeline, Creator series didn't intend to design minifig-scale sets. It would have been cool to get a minifigure Ferris wheel in that set scale. Glove version is okay but it might look like a very secondary part from a large set. Now if this set is successful enough, a new Ferris Wheel for minifigures has a bigger chance to come in later years.

Let's share our funny interesting photos!
Dorayaki replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Xmas Phobia Wasted Talent Lord Stilt Not really a funny. Idea originally from Kristel(kjw010)'s Girls' Day Out -
It mostly depends on how much content the instructions include to guide FOLs to build therir own machinery amusement parks. If it works, it may be one of the most successful Technic-Creator set ever. Though the machinery part is better than Winter Market last year, however the decoration part is kinda weak, making it look like kids can't wait and get into an underconstruction site .

Well thankx. IMO in visual views, film actors who play leading roles in multiple movies can be obvious funnies (ex, Johnny Depp). Voice actors are sometimes obscure, though this kind of puns are pretty popular in Japanese anime fandom. Don't worry, your funnies are popular enough to cross that barrier. About the funny I think you can directly make weird crossdressings.

Uh, some previous replies also want to make non-licensed discussion in the same thread. I do think original Lego stories and universe deserve its own thread.

Now the Malfeficent deadline is approaching in the next month, but unfortunately it seems like that TLC isn't going to make sets based on the movie, though it can still be in future TLC line as princess relevent prodcuts.

LEGO Frozen anyone? (Expand the Disney Princess line)
Dorayaki replied to smittyfan's topic in LEGO Licensed
Well? As I've already said in that thread: When coming to as a Cuusoo project, suppose that TLC still haven't broken their cooperation with Disney and they'll still make something based on Frozen, in theory it might just end as Sandcrawler after its achievement. The only chance is that since Frozen is already too late to be in TLC's production schedule, a Cuusoo project can make it work. IMO the stories that really fit in a Cuusoo Disney project would be those stories that are not too obscure but also not considered as "Dinsey classics" to be made in future TLC lines, for example, the Hunchback, the Bolt and other unused Pixar films. The crystal building is very detailing, weirdly both Castle and Belville didn't come up with this idea. And for unknown reason there's no minifigs shown in this project. -
Now I guess K'Nex would keep holding the Super Mario license. Their action platformers and race track building systems are pretty decent, but their character releasing is just meh. BTW considering Bowser has to driving a bicycle, he can't be an oversize figure. There have been several Mystery Machine projects in Cuusoo, but currently they're not as popular as the previous two film licenses. IMO the 58552 one looks the best.
-
Well both Japanese buildings and BTTF are very early projects that took long time to achieve. The earliest Cuusoo projects are majorly created by Japanese FOLs, but generally Piano is the only left project that has an obvious chance to achive. The projects that could be affected by this new rule do exist, though they're minority of the bunch. I've been watching Piano and other relevant projects, and I'm sure the creator has done several updates to take care of them. But as you said the rest early projects are just left there and those creators did nothing good to their system. It makes Cuusoo more like a "static showcase", not a moving-forward fan support system. If the projects can be cleaned and have a good recycle rule, it's better to leave only hundreds of projects that allow free voters to choose, and then these projects shall have better visibility. In the current Cuusoo situation, maybe there is a decent project with only 50 votes, but there are many other junk projects with 50 votes too so voters can scarcely notice that project. To work under the new rule, the project must keep growing votes since their submission so it doesn't just stop here. This. I don't think votes mean nothing, and after all since Ceator and previous original Cuusoo sets already work, why not Piano?
-
As I know getting achived and getting passed in actual review are two different things. Those rejected examples already proved it. I don't see you statement related to the new rule. The lack of public attention is one of the problems of Cuusoo so far. Even if it's nice enough, if nobody notices, it can't sell for sure. Optimistically, we should hope the new rules can do good to some projects (meaning that the projects can get more votes, not be deleted).
-
1 year limits would be bad for all projects who wouldn't make it. In subjective views, most project owners might just want to keep waiting and never get their hope (not saying those junk projects), but unfortunately their projects can't move anyone's heart and just stay in fewer than hundred votes. In objective views, the real pity is for those who are still able to achive 10,000 votes but need more than 1 year to do it. Some very old projects do fit in this mode, because they're kinda like slow-to-warm-up and often lose to those quickly achived projects with great supports and popular license. What the new site needs to do is to actively urge voters to make quick decisions and increase visibilities of all projects. If I have to worry about someone, I'd say the Piano project is because it's used six years to get that 6'000 votes, and it needs to get the rest 4,000 votes to catch up the upcoming deadline.
-
Yes, it looks like Cuusoo the Japanese cooporation is not going with TLC in the future, so TLC want to start their own thing. The only question is if "Cuusoo" the name has more market supports, or a new name can bring more people into this website. Kinda agree "Idea" could be too bland to receive attentions. Cuusso has been actually getting more public attentions (we have 3 achieved sets this year so far, at least). The criteria that one-year-cut rule needs is to have enough voters to make the system work faster. If the rule already existed since its birth, I doubt we could get any set in early years.
-
Technically the content is not too different, but as an Asian I'm alittle concerned with the change of title. Maybe the team want to show the changes or they just want to make it more "international" and get rid of that Japanese origin. Uh, though products are still more impotant than titles. I don't have too much issues with new rules. Instead of saying that weak projects can be deleted faster, I hope the real use of the rules is to urge FOLs to vote more projects they care about so that each review season can have at least 15 projects passed. I honestly think the achieved projects so far are really not too many. (40 projects in six years? Uh......).
-
I don't really think just making these characters in "DP" line would change the chances if they could be in Lego sets. As both of us mentioned, other older princess's haven't even come yet, and obviously there are issues for Frozen which didn't let TLC make any set during theater time. Now the upcoming Maleficent is a similar problem sicne it also counts part of the princess stories, though not an animation sequel. And I'm not sure about how the license pay works. More stories do cost more, but Disney Princess isn't really something like "bargain sale" or "combination price". Maybe there's some reasons why TLC isn't active in making more princess's coming, or perhaps all licenses of unused princess stories have to be seperately confirmed in furthur waves.
-
Uh, I don't think so. Only four of the currently titled princess's have appeared in Lego world, and Anna's case isn't based on the fact that all of them are in. I'm inclined to repeat that TLG didn't determine to make furthur waves, or they're waiting for something. Also the demand of Frozen is related to the movie hit factors, unless TLG decided to change there strategy this year (Galaxy Guardians, huh?). Plus, again TLC doesn't really have to care that title if they're permitted, or maybe they're not going furthur with Disney, in the worst case? That's quite complex. There are enough issues with those princess's who are actual protagonists but didn't join the cast, not even to think about Madellaine, Penny, Lilo and tons of "ordinary" heroines, I personally don't think the heroines you referred need to get this title (that include Mulan), and this offtopic issue is only inside the Disney company. Due to the restriction of time and memory, I guess current kids would ask for Elsa's LEGO products more than Madellaine or Megara. And unfortunately non-princess heroines are usually less remembered (not just because of Disney's Princess franchise marketing strategy, but also an original sin of "fairy tales"), It's like that only Superheroes are remembered in superheroes' stories.
