The actual shame is that K'Nex haven't even released a whole line of Mario Kart characters since they announced the partnership during 2011. They made character blind bag too, but their character selection is still pretty poor since they only tend to make recolors instead of character variations. Their building Super Mario stage and Kart system are nice, so if they also did good for characters, I don't think LEGO Mario is necessary. They could have been a good competitor.

My earlier memory for official LEGO babies was Padme giving birth in SW games though Emmet doesn't have to remember that. Whatever, it's mostly that babies are just have nowhere to fit in any corner of LEGO world. Belville and Duplo introduced baby figures to add nursing uses, but nursing seem not necessary for any LEGO minifigure (and current Friends minidolls) theme. Maggie's body doesn't look appropriate for a normal minifigure head too.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 13 Rumours and Discussion
Dorayaki replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Uhm.... I don't say they're boring figures, they're interesting City additions, but honestly I think they don't reach the average level of minifigures, at most they're the quality of the male Lifeguard from s13 or TLM set figures. You may see that background pic, the woman in brown Elsa hair next to the Clown is also pretty generic. We have seen many original faces and character desings in promotional LEGO store artworks, so I might just think these ones are part of them.Of course I won't hate them if they're really in series 13. Just hope that there would be more surprises for other characters. Among other LEGO promotional artworks I especially like this girl below this year: -
There is a bug. If TLM was composed by the time after Simpsons, Maggie might have been known in LEGO world.

Another saying was that yellow was the earlier starting color of LEGO bricks so they wouldn't use flesh colors at first. For now since normal non-licensed minifigures can also afford exclusive colors, using yellow skin is for ethnic reasons. "Yellow people" are more often used to describe Asians in slangs so I don't think that's the reason.Earlier figure prototypess in Duplo set weren't flesh, but the very first group of modern Duplo figures did begin with flesh.
-
If you count all System sets, then I recommend you Friends. First, to shorten your question, there is already an official answer to the question why current minifigures are basically yellow. Judging from the World People set, I think the main reason is that Duplo want to keep figures flesh skins to educate kids that there are different kinds of people on the world, and yellow figures could be misleading. For Friends minidolls and earlier girl dolls, they were simply made to appeal older consumers who don't really accept unrealistic yellow figures.

Speaking of that.....

I can't find a reason why LEGO can't make Peter Pan, which does have a market. They've done characters with Duplo Jake. Tinklebell is also a commonly girls-oriented brand even though LEGO seem not planning to make it judging from the possible Elves theme. But again, mermaids aren't the major part of Peter Pan so it's offtopic. Tamara from Whitecap Bay was due to that her theme had tons of characters and there was room for any secondary candidate. The current problem for this Disney line is that it's not booming characters(figures). Since this is a collective theme, I don't think we can get lots of characters/stories at once. Each of them might need a new mold, Uh, though there is a theme called Hobbits where every set has an exclusive hairpiece. Mermaids and undersea have been one of the most popular theme for girls. Just hope that this is the end for Ariel unless LEGO want to introduce Ursula to us.

Well I can see your passion for Maleficent, but for me I'd expect Maleficent's minifigure first. It's been an issue that bigger minidolls sets don't have the same amount of figures as minifigure sets have. Most minidolls sets don't tend to be army builders and this leave little diversity for minidoll variations. Not really doing with girls or educational reasons, romance often plays big role in Disney films so the love interests would usually be prior to those big villains, which might be contrary to Superheroe sets. Friends is even worse for having issues for both love interests and villains, so Disney princes are lucky enough. In other words, if we need any villain, at least we have to wait for a set that has more than three characters or has used the love interest in a previous set. Ursula currently has better chances than Maleficent. However, if LEGO just throw us a genric minidoll instead, I'd be speechless. I can definitely see the Maleficent Dragon as set based on Dragon Mountain's idea. It's just that whether LEGO would ever try to sell Disney sets to Castle or dragon lovers or just focus on marketing to girls.

REVIEW: 71007 LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12
Dorayaki replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
In my viewpoint, I think LEGO would keep future series consisted of remakes/counterparts and new ideas. The reasons for remakes could be:1) Just lacking ideas, the most negative answer. 2) Saving money. (in this case, Joker) 3) Fulfilling the needs of counterparts, and some of them turn out really well. 4) Giving new collectors the parts they couldn't collect at first. I think the fourth point is an issue LEGO could pay attention to. Some kids who bought series 01 might be getting into their dark age this year, while some kids just leave Duplo and notice CMF. This leaves LEGO little necessity to make every figure different at their best. To new KFOLs, Swashbuckler is pretty fresh just like what Musketeer was to "previous" KFOLs. But there are still golden FOLs and TLG would still introduce new characters in order to leave topics for every series. I don't think this series was meant to cater to kids more (IMO series 8 was the most childish one). Kids may not understand the definition of "Spooky" and othe cultural knowledge. I'm not surprised with the Princess (despite not my favorite) since she was already labelled "Fairytale" I'm not into western fantasies, but in Google most wizard pics have those stars in their blue hats. Maybe Yen Sid has successfully influenced people's stereotypes. Meanwhile, the male Genie looked like that Disney counterpart, but the female Genie seems not, much to Eden's dismay .- 156 replies

The final decision rests with LEGO and LF. I think this is still a risk to sell less famous characters just based on the notability of SW brand, unlike regular sets which also appeal common space lovers. Agree. But I'm afraid what makes it debateble is whether the second licensed CMF series is still the same license. Depends. The room TLM left was as much as regular series had since they're all normal yellow minifigures. Simpsons brings some different plain torso colors while their skin colors are majorly yellow, but they also have arguable heads (which is a shame, there are so many iconic hairstyles that deserve to be new pieces). Common consumers may not be able to keep their interest unless LEGO have a good control of their schedule for different CMF series.

The major reason was that this summer didn't announce any series, and we expected/believed there was another series to fill that vacancy. I personally don't think series 12 has a featured theme, it's still similiar with previous regular series. For Superhereos, actually there weren't too many sets every year (for DC and Marvel respectively), and some of them are only tied with a current film. It feels like we won't see a DC set based on non-Batman/Superman storyline and isn't doing with any current film. I do think CMF Superheroes work. The other main problem so far is that LEGO has been giving exclusive minifigures rather than leaving them for any potential set or a CMF series. For SW, I think it's more impossible. There are indeed choices for CMF, but LEGO tend to make most characters and their variations exclusive to a single set. For example there have been no Bespin Leia redesign but we can almost be sure that she'd be in a future set. The choices that are not doing with two trilogies and major TV series are the characters based on other media materials or SW history (aka Extended Universe). Darth Raven is one of those rare examples, but not sure if LEGO would do this. As said, they could lack notability and be unable to appeal common consumers because they don't even know who Raven or Exile is, at worst. (oh, and Mara Jade too ) Suppose that LOTR is going to an end, a CMF would be the last save to appeal dissapointed FOLs, I'm sure.

Something disturbing is that, the colors are added, but do the elemental powers are added too? The powers used to be tied with colors at first, but it seems like the plot has to abolish this rule now. Fanons like to create a new ninja with both new powers and new colors, but as long as there are still only four powers in this story, it unlikely happens. I'd also like to see PIXAL as a ninja since she could reuse the elemental pwer from Zane. But that sentence sounds like "the ninjas meet a stranger they've never met before". If there is just a new character, in a marketing view TLG might not introduce a girl ninja. If the new ninja learn all four powers just like Lloyd, his Golden Ninja title might be gone. Or maybe the new character would use another legendary title instead. Another way to explain this is there are many other ninjas (more than four at least) who learn the four elemental powers as well. But then, they would keep the four basic colors, not one new color.

REVIEW: 71007 LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12
Dorayaki replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Indeed. I still think the average score of this series isn't higher than previous series. The remakes are too obvious while the popular ones are really extraordinary.I'm neutral with clothes. The wow factor of prints might be less visible. My problem with fabric is that not all fabric pieces are well-printed and well-fit on a figure even though the CGI pics work.- 156 replies

I don't think we can predict another licensed CMF series if we haven't even gotten the second license in order to get the possible rules at least. If we also discuss original themes, the most possible one could be Online Game series based on a previous rumor. There are also not many choices for a licensed series. That license needs to have at least 16 iconic characters. Disney is a collective theme so it's qualified for sure. The candidates as individual licenses are Avatar, LotR and Harry Potter. Speaking of Nickelodeon, Spong.... oh, never mind. I personally think the chances for Star Wars and Superheroes are smaller, mostly because the two make big money and TLG would keep making new sets for them. There could be some minor characters who don't have big chances to be in any set so they can go to CMF series, but the other question is would they be appealing CMFs? To be quite honest, the main reason why I didn't fall in love with LEGO Simpsons as both a FOL and a Simpsons lover is that CMF feels like both a treat and a mistreat which both bring unfairness. Simpsons hasn't got any other regular set along with the CMF series, while other regular licensed themes don't even get more characters than Simpsons. If licensed CMF is possible, I wish it's the turn for an existed license rather than a newly obtained one..

Uh.... if they're so willing to do that they would just begin a regular set wave by themselves instead of interesting LEGO ideas members. I guess they have that plan, but didn't sure if FOLs like it or not. They decided to make Ideas a touchstone to know it.I'd not be too surprised to see DW sets. Even it's not making it in this review cycle, one day anotherone would eventually pass if FOLs keep trying, because it's not Zelda . So I'm not really on DW's side, I care more about other licensed projects in this review.

Why would you believe in Phillip? Not being mean, judging from the fact it's a medium set, it's hard to tell if Phillip would trespass Aurora's room like the ending of the story, or Aurora would just stay in her room alone. It feels like not making any Sleepling Beauty wave during the theatrical time of Maleficent was a mistake. However judging from the fact Maleficent was targeted at adults rather than marketing toys to KFOLs, it makes some sense. It's hard to tell if Maleficent figure would appear in the future. Her dragon form could do a great individual set, but its targeted group would be those who bought Dragon Mountain.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
Dorayaki replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'd agree that there could have been a good chance for a new color of rare braid hairpieces if there's no hairstyle sharing. Maybe fewer molds can save some more production cost than reintroducing an old hairpiece? As result I'm pretty bored by the new Lifeguard's ClubMax hairstyle. It's not a good choice to me not only due to it's reappearances in Friends, action themes and CMF series itself, but it's also used by a previous beach character. The dark brown is new to it but maybe a dye would be more like a save.- 1,109 replies

REVIEW: 71007 LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12
Dorayaki replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Wow, fast and excellent review. The package color issue isn't important, though I'm not sure why purple has to be skipped in the first place. As result the Dino ponytale is same with Genie's. This is indeed a very useful hairpiece for generic minifigs, just hope that it won't be as many as Nurse's. Still I personally want to see Slave Leia's ponytail being used in Genie's case since it's more Arabian-like. For some reason I think the frog for Princess needs a new design or print since it merely looks like an item rather than a "potential" prince. But maybe TLG would have to do that for a future Frog Tiana. I'm still not wowed by Princess's prints despite her excellent kissing face. I'll wait for a more Baroque-like character. Thankfully some of the remake designs have only three ones in each box. Easier for us to get a whole selection. > 'J.T' on it which is similar to the previous female lifeguard, with 'G.T'. Ms Gitte's spouse? Agree, even though the video game has denied that. Hope this would also be a usefull piece for licensed heroines.- 156 replies

Pretty much like the LotR case right now. I did wish to see each HP film tied with a LEGO wave, but unfortunately they didn't. The final wave was great, but they're mostly iconic places rather than doing something with later stories or characters.
-
Well there is no likely, Pandora's talks explained most things. We don't have to be surprised or angry about the fact that TLG has to put reopening a new market in the first place. Something doubtful is that they don't try to add the values of connections that used to exist in other earlier minifigure themes, which is not the correct way to encourage their new consumers (girls) to play LEGO. From the previous replies we may see that some historical FOLs are not happy with this news (though it could also be owing to what Disney products showed last year). Oh, and, Back to the topic, the new leak names make me feel like there would be a more composed story behind this theme than Friends. There is a bigger chance that a TV show series would appear. But just hope that it wouldn't be as polarizing as Chima.
-
I assume TLG think Coast Guard things are more appealing to their major consumers like boys, while beach day things are pretty like exceptions or are a small part in the rescue scenarios. But yes, Fishery activity and other daily harbor scenes are good ideas. Why not? Yes, some of the prints are alittle disturbing, but they work much better than putting minifigs and minidolls together.

Actually, we just have to consider Olaf, Sven, or Kristoff. Yeah, Frozen is a rare case that has more main characters than just a couple. The others include Genie from Aladdin (but not sure if he'd be in a future set under this theme) and double Johns as Pocahontas's love interests. Still, if TLG is willing to bring more waves and Frozen sets, we still have chances to collect more characters from the same story. I wonder what the other Elsa's hairstyle would be. The closest one is Rapunzel's, but that would be weird to make two Disney protagonists similiar.
