Generic Contest Discussion
Thirdwigg replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Feels a lot like the 200 part MINI contest we did a while ago, which was awesome. I would be up for this again. -
Thanks for another great contest! I feel that as defending TC Champion, I should have participated, but I couldn't make this one work. Thanks @Jim and @Milan for hosting another one and for keeping these contests fresh and continuous. And thanks to all the designers who were will and able to make an entry. On to voting!

[MOC] Mini Snowgroomer
Thirdwigg replied to kodlovag's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Very cool little build! -
I'm liking the set. Like orange, I tend to buy any set that comes in Green, so.... But, I'll have to see what improvements can be made. Nice to see some new parts in Green. Also, this set is going to sell well in the USA. You can put "John Deere" on a sausage here and it will triple sales. I can't believe it took TLG so long.

Thanks for the great comment and for the high praise. I know I am not the most popular builder out there, but I like what I make, so I'm happy it meets your taste. I'm now comfortable enough with my style that if I cannot get a function to work properly, I feel OK taking it out. If it doesn't work every time, what's the point? This is the most meaningful comment I have received in a while, so thanks a lot. Yeah, I'm over building big. If it doesn't fit on my desk at work, I don't build it. This also makes it a little easier for other to build them as well. Thanks for the tire suggestion. I have some of those from the Rebel Wrecker, but the white rims I have are soooo yellowed that I tend to not use them in builds. But yeah, the sizing is great. I have a couple of ideas for the Thirdwigg Farm, and I'm open to suggestions. I think there is more here to be explored, so let me know what you want. For the time being I have drafts for a rotary mower, and a towed rake. Both are for the Atmos. Also, I have a draft of a smaller tractor with a front bucket. So that's what's coming right now, but again, I think there is more to explore here, so I'm open to ideas and suggestions. I welcome them. Thanks @Jeroen Ottens, it's always great to receive praise from builders who are at least three ability levels higher than yourself. Truly, thanks for the praise.

I'm glad you like it, and my other MOCs. I hope when you get to it, you enjoy the build. Great! Sent a PM. Thanks! Yeah, it looked at 8862 B for some inspiration, but there was little that it contributed. I found 8274 to be a little more helpful. Yeah, the swappable headers was a late stage add (I built the grain head only last week), but the removal was a first level design goal right from the beginning. And the soft axles were a "lightbulb" moment for me as a I was trying to find a good idea for the augers. I finally said, these would demonstrate what is happing really well. Then it was just about finding the right size. Thanks for your comment.

Thanks so much, and I'm glad mine rose to the top for you. Yeah, the thresher was a must have for me, and so was the cutter head. I really wanted the grain conveyer from the head to the thresher and the auger into the hopper, but I just couldn't come up with good solutions. Finally, I always feel a little bit of guilt charging for instructions, so thanks for letting me know that the pricing is OK. Thanks again. I too would like to see an official set like this, but I have given up hope on this kind of model long ago. Thanks again for your kind words. I'm thankful that you like each of my MOCs. I agree, I don't find combine very beautify, but there are many mechanisms that are interesting. Trying to replicate one was a fun project. Thanks again.

[MOC] Mack R series
Thirdwigg replied to LegoV94's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Great job again! I love the container trailer. All the details are superb like the driveline above the axles on the rear, and the curves on the hood. Also I love the details of the cables and brake lines and the Dark Blue stripe. I am with @proran , how did you do the front lights? -
Well the Thirdwigg Farm keeps getting more machines. I guess this is a good thing, but maybe irresponsible as no crops have been planted or harvested yet. I present the Synthe Combine. After the Atmos Tractor, and all the other attachments, I felt it was time to branch out. Instructions are here. The combine includes the following manual features: Steering Front wheel driven two stage thresher Straw spreader Adjustable grain extractor Opening hopper Opening right side Header lift Removeable header Working cutbar Cutting edge auger Opening cabin door Above you can see the opening side which shows the two stage thresher. Above you can see the hopper and the straw spreader, and how it works below There are two headers that fit the Combine: a corn head shown above, and a grain head (below). It's a complicated build, but you may find instructions for the Combine with corn head and only the grain head at Rebrickable.com (I may be spending too much time in Bricklink Studio these days). And for those of you who need something to watch, here is the video. I hope you all enjoy.

Cool idea, and I look forward to watching this project. The idea of a Magnum Opus is fun to me. Maybe a technic version of Launch and Load Seaport is in my future as well... Keep up the good work.

[MOC] Motorized Garbage Truck
Thirdwigg replied to mihao's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Great job on this moc. I love a great garbage truck, and the side loader mechanism is well designed. Thanks for sharing it with us. -
Great job with build. I have recently become a fan of "system builds" that allow for interchangeability and flexibility, and I'm happy you took this approach with this build. It takes a lot of system thinking to make sure all compentants can work together and interchange. Good job, and I hope to see more like this in the future.

@Jeroen Ottens Thanks for the side photo. It looks great from this angle. And boy do I love these wheels. -
[MOC] Toyota Supra
Thirdwigg replied to Jeroen Ottens's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Another great model! I appreciate the 1:10 scale just like @brunojj1. I like the way you did the little ducktail spoiler; one of my favorites parts of the new Supra. Do you have a picture from the side? Also, I remember how we gave TLG some guff for using the 42039 suspension in 42056, but it is a great design, and I'm happy to see it used here as well. Again, great job. -
Thanks, yeah, I love the blue. Glad you like the modular design and all the options. I really need to learn how to be decisive. Yeah, I get the comment on the bodywork. I realize it's not for everyone. Thanks for the thoughtful post. The body in the video is only attached by two points, but there are six connections points: two in the front above the front engine to the frame, two in the middle that attaches to the floorpan (as seen in the video), and two at the rear to the suspension towers. It all ties together firm and well. With each added part the car gets stiffer. Thanks for the comments on the bodywork, and I'm pleased with it. Yeah, the part behind the rear wheels took me too much time, and they are still not perfect. I'll do something better on the next build. Again, thanks for the comments.

Yeah, I went really deep down the modularity rabbit hole. I agree, the blue is my favorite. And the manual with the hybrid motor. I'm happy I stuck with it. Thanks for the praise. I'm happy you like it, and were willing to watch the whole video. I know, I get tired of all the two doors..... I'm glad to share the instructions.
