  1. I spent 30 minutes tonight finalizing a couple parts on the real build. The rear outriggers are final, which means I was able to finalize the rear frame. The fuel tank is in, as is the exhaust. I'll convert all these parts into the studio file tomorrow, and share another update. The final part is the boom mount, and how it connects to the turntable. I have a simple mockup that I have used since the beginning, but it needs some cleaning up. Then I'm done. @emielroumen, I'll post the file, and make instructions when I am done. Give me a week, and you can build your own. @brickless_kiwi, no problem and see below. The file is still incomplete, but I'm sure you get the idea. Does this help?
  2. Soon. I have it built IRL right next to me, but my photography studio is off-line this weekend. I'll show it soon. A little more time in studio tonight, and I have managed to finish the boom of the crane. I think I'm done for tonight.
  3. I love the approach you have here, and I am happy to have another interpretation of a system set. The gigafig is stupendous.
  4. Alright, I am finally happy with the cab. Yeah, I had to keep the panels. I chose to slope the bonnet more, and flatten out the A Pilars a little more. The A Pillar is too steep on 8854 to my eyes, so this is a good compromise for me. Here they are compared. And as an overlay. You can see the difference in the slopes. Also, you will note the roof is longer, and the bonnet lower on the update. Again, I think this works to my eyes, but I guess I'm not voting on this.... My progress on the Studio file will move more quickly now as the final hard part is done. I'll do a couple more comparison shots as I finalize the build, and post the whole thing soon.
  5. I love the colors of Blacktron, and IcePlanet, and Old City Police, but Octan is my favorite. This looks soo clean. I hope you get the cars done, because that would make it even so much better. This looks great!
  6. It should be helpful to get some of the final details to square well. But it may take a little bit to get there; I'm running out of that. OK, I built 8854 in Studio, and it looks fine. I didn't spend any time on the hoses. Next I stared the 8854 Update, and so far I only have the axles as shown below. Below, with the Trans Dark Blue 8854 overlay. It doesn't show much yet, but hopefully it will soon. Also, maybe I need to use regular Trans-Blue. Also, somehow I took out the boom. I'll fix that next time. I am going to work on the rear of the truck tonight, and more on the Studio file tomorrow. Working faster now.....
  7. Great design. I love the placement of the transmission, the fold down seats, and the two tone colors. The shape is perfect, and the opening hoods are great. Well done!
  8. I may have a guess. Thanks. I like the black fenders too, but right now the big wheels may be part of the problem with the cab proportions. I tried the 7L Liftarms for the hood, and it looked too Kenworth. I'll keep working at it. I'm going all @Seasider now, and built 8854 in Studio, and am working on the Update as well. This way I'll be able to set them side by side, and better compare. Glad you like it.
  9. I'm just noticing you used my suggestion for the steering. I'm glad it helped. Wonderful build, and I'm pleased with how it turned out.
  10. I am so happy someone is doing 8855. Looks great so far, and I look forward to your work. I like the red details, on all but the exhaust.
  11. I spent some time on vacation, and I am ready to go on this project. I have a little time left, so hopefully I can meet the deadline. I have a draft of the cab, which is a mix of 8854 and Classic Unimog. I may try to soften the later for the former. The cab is a little narrow for my liking, but it stays true to the original. It still looks small to me in all dimensions, but as I continue on this project, it seems like the original was not meant for any kind of driver, no matter the scale. The hood is a little more level, but that works better for my eyes. A grill has been added, and a real bumper, rather than the cattle guard. The color and shape may change. The boom is in, and everything works. I don’t think there will be other changes to this part. I have to work on the mount, and the winch is a little wonky at this point. But all this should be doable in the time remaining.
  12. This looks great, and keeps getting better. The compressor is neat, but unnecessary for me. I like the mini-mog tires, but do you have the 68mm balloon tires (https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=61480#T=C) that you can try with this MOC? They may keep the old look with a new feel.
  13. Looks great, and I love the inclusion of the little tractor. It’s a shame the payload of the crane is less than expected, but yeah, the original was like that too. I am looking forward to how the cabin turns out.
  14. A little late here, but this turned out great. I wish the bottom of the A pillars was connected, but that’s a small detail for me. I love the PTO on the front and rear, which is a must for me. Again, great work.
  15. I am so happy someone did 8286, and if anyone can pull it off @HorcikDesigns can! I am happy that you kept the look and feel for the original but modernized the look. It was great that you kept the modular components as well. I don't mind the tail and horizontal stabilizer on the helicopter, but can you clean up the rear bodywork a little. Maybe a panel or something to round it out? Finally, I like the white bumpers on the truck, but can you change Connector #5 to Connector #3?
  16. I love when a project lingers on due to continued updates and improvements. Thanks for sharing: it still looks great.
  17. I am so happy to see this project continue, and I am looking forward to the final design. I love that you include suspension, and how it works with the top wheels.
  18. This looks great @HorcikDesigns, but I like the 8286 build a little better.
  19. Looking good. Those blue panels looks great on this build.
  20. Looking good! Are you going to use 4 tires or 6 (duals on the front)?
  21. Another great MOC. You have a knack for adding great details to your builds like the Jerry Cans and traction mats on this build. Again, well done.
  22. I see. I would drop the 4 stud wide, as this bring no value other than historical accuracy, but that's your call. With these remakes I am inclined to improve what can be improved by the original design to make them better. So all of these changes seem like a good idea to me.
  23. For me too. If stacking liftarms is a no-go, stacking connectors is the ultimate sin in my mind. Remove the panel on the rear, keep the panels on the side, keep the macaroni's on the front, but drop them from the rear.
  24. I also like the panel bumper on the left. If you can make it work, I would. I hate to encourage you to change the steering linkage, but can you do a design like this but use liftarms as the mount, and Part 87082 as the pivot and Part 42003 as the mount to the steering link, with a 4 axle with stop for the axle. This might help you get a little better steering geometry.
  25. I find in many of my builds that mounting the engine on thin liftarms (so engine block is 1/2 stud offset) can solve a lot of problems with the drive axle. (see here and here). It's a little trickier for V engines but it can be done. Mount the front of the engine on a 3x5 triangle and the rear can use a connector block (like you have) with a thin liftarm (1.5 total stud thickness) to support the angle of each cylinder bank.
