Thanks, and keeping the feel without a direct copy was the intent. Glad you like the look. I'm glad I posted the picture to get this feedback, but the yellow was important, so the 68.7 tires were the plan from the start. I tend to overtire my Mogs, and this one is no exception. Yeah, they look a little big, but a bigger look always looks better to my eye. Hopefully all you voters agree with me... or at least ignore the tire issue enough to see the other good parts of this MOC. I'm glad the size looks good to your eyes @Jundis.

Again, great work. The shape of the cab and bonnet are perfect. And boy do those tires look great here.

@1gor Below is a photo with the 62.4 wheels. You can tell me what you think before I share my opinion of them.... In retrospect, I think I spent too much time on the front end working on the suspension, and not enough time on the cab. Either way, I'm happy I included that feature, and the engine. The suspension uses no shocks. This is exactly right. See below on the instructions. Rear is left, front is right. The highlighted liftarms on both sides link the axles on both side. The 2L Pin with Hole is the pivot, and the 2L Rubber Connectors allow for two axis flex between the liftarms and the axle frames. @SaperPL I am finalizing the instructions now, but the Studio file with Steps is complete, so if you want that for the time being, send me a PM, and I'll send it your way.

Super! Just remember that when you go to Vote. Yeah, I made a decision very early on that I would use the Batmobile tires instead of the 62.4 as I did not have them in Yellow (a must for 8854), and I wasn't willing to purchase four new wheels.

[TC20] Indy transport, set 6335

I'm happy you were able to complete this build with the cars. The truck was nice, but the cars make it complete. They cars are simple, but work perfectly for this scale and for this truck. It's great you stayed true to the colors of the three cars as well, and the stickers look great. -
@1gor I'll shoot a photo tonight. I don't have Yellow 62.4 wheels, so the DBG may have to be enough. Below is the final Studio File over the original build (TransBlue). Final design showing the suspension. Here is the working I4 Engine. The rear of the Truck. The crane fully extended. Here is the chassis.

Great Job. I love how it turned out. -
Alright, I'm done with the build. The video is done, and I'll post photos when I have a little more time today. Instructions are about 60% done, but will be available soon.

I like this way this turned out, and I am sorry not all the parts have arrived. I like the newer wheels more than the older ones. Great job. -
[TC20] 8858 - Rebel Wrecker
Thirdwigg replied to Ivorrr's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I would go for wheel 3 for me, but none of these perfect, so I may keep the original wheels and tires if it were up to me. -
This is a helpful topic, and one right up my alley right now. I really jumped into Studio in the last six months. I had trouble with LDD and MLCad, and it was time for me to improve my instructions. I build all of my models IRL first, and then build it in Studio. I build in Studio with the instructions steps in mind, so create steps as I build. Then I produce the instructions, which takes some time, but the result looks good. I agree with others that the flexible parts are hard to do well, and some parts (like the pneumatic valve BB0874) are absent, and I am not clear as to how to add parts. Maybe I'll build a MOC in Studio first at some point, but it will take some time before I am ready to do that.

This is looking great. I think you need to use the beacon light. It's a good way to harken back to the original. I agree with @Void_S, and would replace the wheels with some modern balloon wheels. Have any in white? -
I spent 30 minutes tonight finalizing a couple parts on the real build. The rear outriggers are final, which means I was able to finalize the rear frame. The fuel tank is in, as is the exhaust. I'll convert all these parts into the studio file tomorrow, and share another update. The final part is the boom mount, and how it connects to the turntable. I have a simple mockup that I have used since the beginning, but it needs some cleaning up. Then I'm done. @emielroumen, I'll post the file, and make instructions when I am done. Give me a week, and you can build your own. @brickless_kiwi, no problem and see below. The file is still incomplete, but I'm sure you get the idea. Does this help?
-
Soon. I have it built IRL right next to me, but my photography studio is off-line this weekend. I'll show it soon. A little more time in studio tonight, and I have managed to finish the boom of the crane. I think I'm done for tonight.

Alright, I am finally happy with the cab. Yeah, I had to keep the panels. I chose to slope the bonnet more, and flatten out the A Pilars a little more. The A Pillar is too steep on 8854 to my eyes, so this is a good compromise for me. Here they are compared. And as an overlay. You can see the difference in the slopes. Also, you will note the roof is longer, and the bonnet lower on the update. Again, I think this works to my eyes, but I guess I'm not voting on this.... My progress on the Studio file will move more quickly now as the final hard part is done. I'll do a couple more comparison shots as I finalize the build, and post the whole thing soon.

I love the colors of Blacktron, and IcePlanet, and Old City Police, but Octan is my favorite. This looks soo clean. I hope you get the cars done, because that would make it even so much better. This looks great! -
It should be helpful to get some of the final details to square well. But it may take a little bit to get there; I'm running out of that. OK, I built 8854 in Studio, and it looks fine. I didn't spend any time on the hoses. Next I stared the 8854 Update, and so far I only have the axles as shown below. Below, with the Trans Dark Blue 8854 overlay. It doesn't show much yet, but hopefully it will soon. Also, maybe I need to use regular Trans-Blue. Also, somehow I took out the boom. I'll fix that next time. I am going to work on the rear of the truck tonight, and more on the Studio file tomorrow. Working faster now.....

I may have a guess. Thanks. I like the black fenders too, but right now the big wheels may be part of the problem with the cab proportions. I tried the 7L Liftarms for the hood, and it looked too Kenworth. I'll keep working at it. I'm going all @Seasider now, and built 8854 in Studio, and am working on the Update as well. This way I'll be able to set them side by side, and better compare. Glad you like it.
