[OL - FB1] The 'Royal Shipyards' in Breshaun
Kai NRG replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
As withstanding gravity (connectionless techniques) is generally a pretty large feature of my builds, this is right up my alley... I'll keep it on the ideas list for the next build I do that it might fit in!- 24 replies

Edited speech bubbles, presumably? I've yet to find any easy way to do it as I couldn't seem to get a hold of speech bubbles in GIMP but had to copy them from Word. Still, with 4-5 photos, you should probably be able to do it in half an hour with that combination (the text would be easiest to do in GIMP, only the bubble itself would have to come from Word).

I think I should have 110 credits, not 60. Why?

[OL - FB1] The 'Royal Shipyards' in Breshaun
Kai NRG replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I love that arch! So fantastic! Is it just wedge plates and hinge bricks? Is it possible IRL? I might have to try it, if you don't mind! Those curtains on the interior are very nice too. Great build.- 24 replies

Fishing and trade post at Zeus' island [OL - FB1]
Kai NRG replied to blackdeathgr's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Nice build! The fishing net with the 1x1 rounds around it gives a nice sense of action! For the rock work, I'd suggest interspersing more tiles and wedge plates to give it a less regular feel... rocks are usually smooth, but at the same time very irregular. Note especially the flatter (but still very irregular) rock on top: This is heavily interspersed with dark tan, of course, but is flatter than the other one: This one uses wedge plates more than tiles: Obviously you wouldn't want craters, but here's some nice flat but not boring rockwork (well, at least, I think it's not boring ). And this of course is black and not grey, but it shows how you can use curved slopes to good purpose too. Hope that's somewhat helpful and doesn't just look like self-promotion. -

Great build; the bit of blue there really adds a ton but the wall and lookout post both look really nice as does your terrain!

Great idea to try out different factions - I really like what you did with the Sea Rats! I still like the Eslandian soldiers best though. Those custom hats are really neat! -
4Profit, Part Two - Pirate Attack! [ESL, MRCA]
Kai NRG replied to Kai NRG's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thank you! I had fun trying to capture the distinctive look of each ship at this scale. Thanks! Action can be tough to depict at this scale so I was really glad to find a good way to portray the cannon fire! Thanks Titus! Thank you! Thanks! I wanted to use those tiles here but figured face up would be to large for a micro. Thank you! That's what I love about micro scale - it doesn't take tons of pieces, just a bit of patience! Thanks! Thanks Captain Braunsfeld! Thank you Garmadon! -

Thanks so much guys, I'm amazed at how popular this build has been! "Aqua regia first appeared in the work of the European alchemist Pseudo-Geber, dating from the early 14th century." From the all knowledgeable Wikipedia. (But, I will admit that I totally didn't know that beforehand.) Yes, Uncle is a firm believer in the powers of DBs to expedite transportation. Thank you! Did I mention chemistry? Thanks! The crates of frogs were fun! I was thinking about including several other animals too but it would have been hard to fit a pig in one of those crates. Thanks! I almost despaired of that bit of digital transformation but unexpectedly hit upon the solution as I messed around in GIMP! Post-processing. I actually tried to do it IRL but did not get very far... at all... Thanks! Thank you! Keep plugging away... I didn't get here overnight! Uncle in a bottle. That's gonna have to be my next thing. Mothers of BoBS! Come and get your Uncle in a Bottle™! Sure to frighten your children into obedience in no time! Thank you! I'll try to keep 'em coming! Thanks! I actually came up with that basket design for a different build quite a while ago, but it was logical to use it here again! They are rather dorky. But... I'm Eslandian. It is a free-build, but just my second this month. Thank you! Thanks Garmadon! The different colors of gold have always aggravated me.

Very nice interior! The inset window is great as are the slanted walls and neat furniture as well! -
Everyone is just going to have to find their own balance between building for DBs and building for fun. I think the system is great because it encourages builders to do things they probably otherwise would never have done - how many of us would ever have built a plantation otherwise? But, like every other good thing, it's quite possible to overdo it. I've had a lot of fun with story-geared builds myself and have even given them priority over licensed builds; for instance my science building really should have been a textile factory but I just got inspired by Bregir's idea. I think that's another great thing about this - there are so many story opportunities! (Of course, that means that sometimes, we'll have to choose between story opportunities or DBs... and that really depends on you.) Speaking of Bregir's idea; it's not a Corrington only thing ATM, though it doesn't have any in-game benefits ATM either and actually it isn't really a thing. I thought it sounded cool, so I PMed Bregir to get more info, and then I built my thing for fun, and we'll see if the society takes off, and if I'm a part of it. If you want more info, I'd suggest PMing Bregir. @Capt. Braunsfeld - Garmadon is about to post a build that has taken him well over a month! (And, I'll have to admit, it's pretty awesome...) With regards to quality: I think we all want to improve. Which doesn't mean every single build is going to get better and better. There have to be those just average builds where you try out new things and find out what doesn't work so well. But I don't think anyone is, or anyone is likely to, post builds that he/she feels are definitely way underpar just for a few measly DBs.
