Congrats to the winners! I'm glad to see several of my favorites here! -
Your two alien animals are really good, especially that snail. But the dragonfly lift function really sells this MOC! The scarab is really cool too - looking forward to getting more pictures of both vehicles!

[ESL-CH2A] Fortify the Fortifications of the Fort
Kai NRG replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I really like the minifigure combo you've used here! The little round forts are really sweet too and I also like the way you've done the grass though a few more smaller tiles might have helped make it look a touch less blocky; but on the whole, a very nice entry to this challenge!- 18 replies

Thanks! I'm wondering how on earth I managed not to notice that for a full year.

Congrats to you and your sister! Letting you post late is fine with me; though if you're not going to have a build next week perhaps you might just as well wait a day or two and use it then? Unrelated: I just noticed that my name is spelled Guy K. Wind both in my signature and on the players tab for the interactive map, when it should be Guy K. Wynd. Not a big deal, but it would be nice to have it fixed sometime!

Lots of neat texturing and style details in here, you really put all kinds of different pieces to good use!

Location: F09 Tags: Exploration So here we are, on the planet. Any further instructions? Yes, of course. Follow the river you're next to until you come to the next clump of trees, then take a left, *vzz*SNAP* That'll be about enough of that stuff. Mrs. Galash! Mrs. Galash! We've lost our communication signal! I know that, whippersnapper. And you can call me Granny. Oh... um... then, Granny - how on earth are we going to get to our destination?!? Look here whipper, I've been a-travelling the Gates longer than you've been alive! I think I know how to get where I wanna go. Okay! Just follow me! This has got to be the ugliest planet I've ever been on. What?!? This is the height of beautifulness! I'm not sure that's a word, Granny. It is now! Oh, look! What. on F09. are. those. things?!?! Scientific name: Ophthamospidiphora. I call 'em oogliaymophs. They're ugly, all right. But sooo delicious! You got your gun? They wouldn't let me bring one. You're kidding me. Sent on a secret mission without a gun? I know! That's what I tried to tell them. Well, never fear - Granny's here! I got me enough guns to stock an army. Here - do you prefer blue or orange? They're both black, but... That's what you think! You still ain't used to be'en 'round me, whipper! Well, I prefer blue. There you go then. Now - fire away! Hmm. It is blue. Of course! Now let 'em have it! You know, there really doesn't seem to be much meat on these things. How can you eat them? Oh, there might not be much meat - but you see them there eyeballs? So juicy! I'm tellin' ya, nothin' beats an oogliaymoph soup! --30 minutes later-- Come on, help me stir! ...To be continued!

Nice job with the story Bregir, I also like the idea of doing a cutoff of the back of the ship, and the use of wedge plates is great! The second little vig is neat as well!

[ESL - FB2] Meanwhile, in the de la Calle estate, Terelli.
Kai NRG replied to Phadeout's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Wow, things sure aren't looking too good for Alejandro! A very ruthless family member on his track! Nice builds, especially the first interior scene. -
I also really like this idea. The re-cap of good builds throughout a week is very nice as well. Although having a blurb about the lore might be a good idea, it's more complicated and personally I kind of like the "who cares about what happened earlier" approach. However, I think in general it would be nicer if the pictures were downsized. It's nice to be able to go from one frontpage news slot to the next without having to scroll down to terribly much, so if the pictures were arranged like this: ...instead of larger and in a row going down, that would be easier to scroll through. (Sorry, a bit of self promotion there. )

The problem with that is that we don't want old topics being bumped... right?

On the canopy vs. visibility issue... yep, that's pretty much how it is. You can either see the canopy, or you can see what's under it. I've never really done huge trees, but when I have tried to get a canopy with for instance palm trees, you just plain can't get the floor and a good top-canopy angle with the same picture. Of course you can take separate pictures... which is what I would suggest; the overview probably should give a good view of the canopy (bird's-eye-view) and it should be the close-ups where the camera is angled at ground level (which, of course, will be a pretty limited range, and probably won't allow you to see the ground texturing on the complete MOC). I agree that most LEGO forests are rather sparse looking, but even at that you can't hardly get a good overview of the ground.

Very nice castle SK, the round towers are a highlight but the rest of the building is really good as well. Great rendition of those tiny slits at the bottom with the upside-down arches!
