  1. Very nice scene, Flavius. I like the contrast between the houses and it all has a nice finish - the highlight to me is the activity of the minifigs, though! Well done! To the build, my only comment is that your trees could use a little more work, particularly the one made by the 2x2 round pieces look a bit off. The story is also very well written - I really like how you manage to add to both Celestian and Cascadian/Myzec lore in such a relatively simple story. I shall be looking forward to following Lavendwood's adventures on the island!
  2. Welcome to the Fraunces brothers. A very nice intro, sir. Nice builds and nice pictures too, all serving to help tell your interesting story. As to your questions: I just checked the Breshaun settlement topic, and everyone can license builds there. You get 25 dbs just for signing up. I would suggest posting your intro story (and build(s)) in a separate topic and registering it as a freebuild for another 10 dbs. That will also allow you to license it as a property (if you can afford it). As a new member, you have 1 free small property license, so if you build a 16x16 property, you can license it and start getting some income at no cost. Further, you have a free class 1 or 2 vessel which can be used as soon you have built and licensed it. A small merchant ship is typically a good way to make money, although there is the opportunity for a larger reward in piracy - although it is more risky. If you are in need of funds, perhaps someone in your faction will be willing to lend a hand with a small loan, or for some service (eg. a build). Personally, I prefer working my way up for a challenge, but a small helping hand may be useful. (There is also the Bank of Corrington for loans.) Throughout the Brick Seas, you will find different building incentives that may offer a payout, which can be a good way to make some starting funds. Welcome to the Brick Seas - If it all looks overwhelming, you can always ask - we are a very helpful bunch.:)
  3. RNTC @Captain Genaro @KotZ @Bodi @Dukesc The atmosphere in Kings Port is still somewhat troubled, although there seems to be some revival of good relations after the latest communication from Oldis arrived. In Westface, the detained crew has been given additional quarters, wine and cake, and been asked to tell their story, after being assured that their situation is currently being sorted. "Political contacts"... Despite the positive change of attitude towards the RNTC expedition, Hollande is still considering his ploy to garner inflluence against Oldis, but how will he proceed? Tarlo had brought him some names - and now Hollande had to decide who to approach... Our best chance is to stick to Oldis. He is clearly in charge, and if we try to appease his closest friends and political allies, surely we can bring ourselves closer to an agreement? Oldis is a haughty fool, and clearly, the time has come for a change! We should contact Oldis' political opponents amongst the plebeians and seek to levy pressure through them - Surely he cannot rule comfortably without the support of the commoners? This noble republic may be... short-lived. There are many who still wishes for return to the Mardierian crown. It will be risky, but Tarlo has given us a contact to a secret society of loyalist politicians, nobles, and merchants. Perhaps this is where we should start... One build is required to progress this storyline. There is a risk of discovery regardless of what choice you make. The mysterious huntress... "These funds shall do well with those wanting..." the mysterious lady said. "Now, let me tell you a tale..." "When the Mardierian colonists first arrived, the Atwi natives feared the sanctity of their most treasured artefact. Hence, they hid it away in a secret temple under the utmost secrecy. Rumours of the artefact, said to be the Quiver of none less than Artemis, soon caught the ear of the Mardierians, who sought it for years. There are in fact still agents of King Alfonse said to be looking for it to this very day. Further, many Terraversans have sought the temple, as have the Atwi, who have lost knowledge of the location after the bloody civil war with Mardier. Lastly, the order of the Faith have sent many a priest into the interior of Terraversa to seek this artefact, much to the disarray of those not following the strict teachings of the Faith." "Whoever secures this artefact will be in a position of power, as so many desire it. Further, there is a myth that the quiver has some magical properties for anyone carrying it." "As it happens, I have contacts who may hold clues to its location. And for a small service, I could be willing to share..." An artefact? Magical mumbo jumbo is the providence of the Order, not the RNTC. Our hopes that the huntress could offer us political influence seems naive and we shall abandon this folly. Ends this storyline (for this adventure...). Aha! The Order, the Terraversans, the Atwi, or the Mardierian loyalists will be most interested in hearing this! Hand over your information to any one of these factions for a small improvement in relations with any one faction. The fabled Quiver of Artemis?! We must pursue this further and do as the Huntress asks. Show the expedition doing something for the veterans, widows, orphans, or other victims of the recent war of independence, and the Huntress will give you a clue. Reassembling the expedition Our men in Westface are being released. We must provision the ships and set sail. Show the crews somehow preparing to leave Westface. One build required. Once fulfilled, the ships in Westface (Esprit Fortune and Eastern Trader) will be free to sail in the tMRCA again, or join the expedition. (Indicate which of these choices you make) Further, 100 dbs is subtracted from adventure treasury to cover the expenses of their stay, Inspection the fortifications A young captain has presented himself to Hollande and is ready to give a tour of some of the main defences of Kings Port. Show someone following the captain on a tour. One build required. This will reveal a considerable part of Terraversa's defences in Kings Port. Three builds required to continue, but only two options can be taken this round. Remaining options will (most likely) still be available next round.
  4. Thank you, sir - never noticed myself! PS: Isn't it wonderful being rewarded for endless discussion?
  5. Bart, I think the range is the on land range the forts garrison can help defend an Island. We will probably look into this as we develop/finish land combat rules.
  6. King's Harbour, June 618 AE To Richard Brickford, Royal Surveyor, Quinnsville My staff and I have followed your reports with great interest. Since my official visit in December 616 AE we have heard very little from the settlement, apart from what vessels and the wagonway brought across in terms of communication. It has been a pleasure to see the settlement grow under your keen management, and you have clearly demonstrated organisational qualities. Hence, it is with great pleasure that I hereby officially appoint you mayor of Quinnsville, to service the settlement in Her Royal Majesty's interest and that of her subjects, until such a time that you are duty bound otherwise, or up for replacement. The first to congratulate you Captain Jno. Cooke, RN Colonial Governor of the Southern Isles King's Harbour, June 618 AE To Captain Nathaniel Brickford, Royal Marines, Military Attaché, Quinnsville Your survey of the defences of Quinnsville have brought some concerns to rest, and it seems the settlement is well defended. Our only remaining concern is whether the proper leadership of the military assets is well in hand. For your services to the Crown, you, Captain Nathaniel Brickford, Royal Marines, are hereby appointed Major of the Royal Marines and required and requested to establish a local military HQ in Quinnsville. You may either take up the position of commander yourself, or appoint a captain for the task and return to King's Harbour. Should you chose to return, we are in need of capable military men for an upcoming expedition under the Royal Society of Discovery and Navigation, to which you may take appointment. In Her Majesty's Service Rear-Admiral S. Fletcher Commander-in-Chief Royal Nova Terran Navy ___________________________________________ Great series of builds and impressive work, LM. It has been a pleasure to follow your development of Quinnsville, and the form of official letters have been really immersive. Sadly, I have been very busy and unable to respond to them individually, but I have enjoyed your builds and storytelling. Well done! (And congratulations on the appointments! ;) )
  7. Nope. To many subjects pinned. This is, while an amazing collab, not pinning material. But I will link it in the Corlander faction thread. :)
  8. The good, the bad, and the ugly: The good Quality This is a great build, and really shows improvement and that you have put in the extra effort. Quality wise I cannot imagine that the court will not accept it. When i first saw the pictures with the rails, I was a little concerned you might have overdone it (considering that railways as we know them, are outside the scope of BoBS), but they are perfectly integrated in the build as a part of the factory infrastructure to move things around. I also like the use of rails for the slipways. You have also included a lot of different aspects of production and the scene is very lively. That you have added some dynamics with several steps of the process is something I really like. It is nice when people take the time to repose and take pictures of something happening. Both inside and outside looks very busy, and there are lots of things going on. It did take me a while to spot the horses, and they appear to have disappeared shortly after. Never trust the WTC with a horse... :P The bad Finish As have been mentioned before, I think you could work a bit more with your finish. In one way, you have done so by keeping the whole scene busy - there are no empty spots. On the other hand, there are quite some places with unsightly studs. I know this is limited by the bricks available, but I would suggests you look into increasing your supply of slopes and tiles over time, to be able to improve here. Minifigs While I like your innovative use of non-pirate torsos, I would personally like to see more consistencey and period appropriateness in your choice of minifigs. Again, this is a question of parts availability (and minifigs can be expensive...), but I am not personally a fan of mixing yellows with fleshies, and more so, not a fan of mixing different styles of minifigs. The star wars minifig styles are different from the castle ones, the new ones different from the old, etc. The ugly Footprint The 10.000 stud footprint requirement for Royal has always been and will always be, absolute. So you will have to add something more to this build to reach the 10.000 studs. You are short 784 studs, which you can add by smaller or larger builds. Could be a number of vignettes, or a single larger build. Vessels Depending on how much you exceed the 10.000 stud footprint, you will not be able to license the vessels with out considerable extra building effort. Why, you might ask. Well, right now, the two vessels under construction are part of the footprint, so taking them away would decrease the eligible footprint. Let me know if any of this is unclear. Undoubtedly your best build yet - keep up improving and there is no telling where you will end up!
  9. Soooo, guys - I was wondering if we are going to Skærbæk fan weekend this year? If so, I might be interested in joining, and I think it would be cool to have a dedicated BoBS setup, and even more so if it could tell some of the major events of the history of BoBS. @Maxim I?
  10. Agreed to your licensing sizes - and nice gunboats. A few things you can consider: Bow/stern It is hard for me to distinguish bow and stern on these boats (apart from assuming that the rowers are facing backwards). Perhaps adding rudders, or a flat transom plate in the stern would make them look more harmonic? Rigging The rigging on the third boat looks very strange. First of all, for a boat this size, you should have a pole mast (remove the thick piece and make it a one piece mast). I would also make the mast higher. Again, there is some confusion as to back and forth. The rowers seem to suggest that the bow is to the right, while the rigging suggests it is to the left... :)
  11. Will get back to you on this. We are currently discussing small boats in court. Will keep you updated :)
  12. I think this is a large class 1. They are comparable to this one. To your question, no. Since you can simply copy and paste in LDD, even more so. The difference has to be large enough that it is comparable to building an entirely new vessel. The benchmark is a physical build, where a player builds several gunboats. They may be similar, but they are each their own build and must have some differences. Makes sense?
  13. The Eltina Courier is something we used for the aMRCA (like the KPA for the tMRCA) to summarise all the adventures. I would very much like to revive it, but it is something we will have to work on in the aMRCA committee. Hopefully, the people there will be willing to help with this. :) (It does take a while to make the summaries of the adventures, but I'd like to do it again.)
  14. As I think I commented on flickr, they are looking fantabulous! Is it printed decals, or? And did you do the designs yourself?
  15. And, if possible, do a comparison picture with the imperial flagship as KB has done on his 114 gun ships.
  16. As to classification, I will remind everyone that only size matters. If she is as large as the current class 10, she can be a class 10 regardless of her number of guns or Royal navy classification. I haven't had time to check up on it, but perhaps you could post her length and width in studs, LM? She is obviously large, and i am sure she is a class 9 or 10. I will try to comment on the (great!) moc in detail at some other point. :) Lastly, are you planning to license her yourself? :O The first and probably one privately owned class 8+ vessel! :P
  17. Nice take on the turn of events, Drunknok - I was imagining something less whale and more Tintin on the floating meteor, but this works well too! ;) And now for the business end of things: @Drunknok Heading further north, there were still no signs of land. Nothing. Just the clear blue seas. From time to time, schools of whales could be seen spouting in the distance. As the Cranky Parrot continued northwards, the whale sightings became more frequent. At sunset one day, the look-out had something different to report, though. "Ship sighted!" the call came. "Off the larboard bow" As they moved to intercept, the look-out called down once more. "She seems to be all adrift - sails hanging limp." he shouted, before adding: "She's a whaler, sir, class 4." Boarding the vessel, the crew found the whole whaling crew reduced to whitened skeletons. The holds held full sets of whaling equipment, including two whaling boats. Additionally, whale oil and whale bone worth 100 dbs was found barrelled up. (100 dbs added to treasury) Obviously, the crew had had a few good catches before falling sick. In the captain's cabin, they found logs and charts. Investigating them revealed that the vessel was a Nameran whaler named "Nipper", and that the crew had died of food poisoning from a bad barrel of (ill-) preserved pork. It had been long enough since the last entry that the Nipper would now be a lawful prize. Further, the charts showed no land for hundreds of miles, although obviously, Nameran whalers had been plying these plentiful whaling grounds for years. The crew of the Cranky Parrot now had some choices to make. First of all, what to do with the whaler? a) Secure the vessel. The crews will be spread out thin, but the black squad can help shore up the crews. It will be tough going, but one does not simply leave a class 4 vessel adrift. Build the class 4 whaler including the whaling equipment. (Class 4 whaler added to the expedition, under Drunknok's ownership. Stats: R5, M2, F2, C3, $5, H1) Both vessels get a temporary BoBS-card setting crew value at 0 to be removed at next Corlander port of call) b) Loot the vessel Secure anything of value aboard and scuttle the vessel as a watery grave for its crews. No specific building requirements. (Additional 100 dbs added to treasury.) Secondly, what do we do next? The success of this may be affected by whether the whaler is secured or not. a) Whaling? That sounds profitable - perhaps the WTC should get into whaling? We have all the equipment now. (And perhaps a whaling ship...) Show some aspect of whaling. b) Weren't we going north? Those whalers surely haven't surveyed the area proper - there will surely be land! Show some aspect of preparation for further exploration. Could be navigation, rationing of supplies, or similar. c) Now is the time to cash in. Let us head back south. One build required to progress. Building requirements from different choices can be combined into the same build. Feel free to ask any questions.
  18. I too have a feeling that miss Sally is disappoint her voters with her new attire... ;) However, she has started her career by showing an aptitude for compromise and set a strong team to lead the town. Well done and all the best of luck.
  19. Looks great, LM! Really nice curves! (And as we all know, real ships have curves! :P) My comment is that your mast placement and design is off. The foremast is too far aft and the mizzen too far forward. I suggest you find a picture/drawing of a rigged ship of the line to determine the proper placement and rigging of each mast. (And height) I will also mention a pet peeve for me. The cabin could be integrated more in the hull. When you find a picture, you will also see that a ships cabin is never a box on top of the hull as it is in many official lego ships. Addressing that will make here even more harmonic looking. Also, splitting the masts in lower masts, topmasts, and topgallantmasts gives you a lot nicer and more realistic rig, tops, etc. and with a great hull like that, she deserves that I think! :)
  20. As long as the subject matter covers both, it can be both. (I.e. it has to both qualify as a licensable property (footprint and effort) and as a shiplimit build (mainly story))
  21. I do not presume to guess your wishes. I just wanted to make sure that you knew this was an option regardless of whether the build had already been licensed. I.e. I was trying to be helpful. Super.
  22. I will see about including a note to this effect, as it is probably not clear. However, the class 0 example specifically includes both a "waterscape", crew, and activity around the boat, i.e. what we are asking from you (and anyone else using prefabs). It is not the prefab that justifies licensing, but the total effort, in this case a vignette. To be clear: Anyone is welcome to use prefabs. However, as with all other builds in BoBS, the total building effort per license has to be "sufficient" to justify licensing. If you prefer, I am sure this can be changed. Up to you.
  23. @Drunknok - really nice harbour scene. I like both the patch of beach, with its nice flowing landscape, and the busy port. The ramp up to the pier is a really nice touch. However, the court feels that the rowboats do not current represent "sufficient effort" per boat to each be licensed on their own, as they are basically a prefab with the same few implements. We do not want a licensing race about who can drive up the price of prefab boats on Bricklink the most! ;) As this is simply due to a different interpretation of the rules than the official one, we have decided to let them sail this MRCA provided that you post an individual picture of each, with something (significantly) different going on for each boat. It could be cargo and crews, landscaping/waterscaping around each boat, or different activities going on. You have until the end of the coming weekend to provide this. An alternative could be not to license the land build, and instead use that as the "sufficient effort" to justify licensing the boats. Let us know if this leads to any questions.
  24. @Mesabi and @Drunknok This time around, since you have told us in advance, you can have a little time extra. Can you commit to have the builds posted end of friday, for instance? We are just mulling over in court how to handle this going forward, but for now, I see no reason to be inflexible in the particular case.
  25. I can't see the picture. It says it is unavailable. :( Without knowing exactly how you imagine faction specific cards, I am not sure we want them to be faction specific, as they may change hands over time. But a template would be great, if we can have some sort of index to show them off, but perhaps it could simply be a Google sheet with links to pictures of the cards based on templates? @Legostone
