[ESL-FB] The Cliff of Pontelli
Bregir replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Wonderful build and very amusing story! I shall be happy to see Pontelli out of the grasp of that witch! I love the brickbuild background, but the highlight is certainly the very well-executed and dramatic perspective of the tall cliffsides you have managed with the boat and soldiers at the bottom! Excellent! Great custom torsos too!- 12 replies

[OL - A-MCRA] Mission to Mardier
Bregir replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@Phred/Oleon A few days later, the Oleanders were called back to the Ministry Offices for an official meeting. Here a delighted Mardierian delegation welcomed them heartily. "Take a seat, good sirs." They, were asked. "And allow me to raise a glass to our future relations!" Greetings and well-wishes exchanged, Berini continued. "I am delighted to inform you that the Royal Court has decided to accept your proposal for a defensive alliance almost verbatim!" He said with a bow. "Our only stipulation, upon which his Royal Majesty must insist, is that neither Oleon, nor any of its representatives, in no way, formally or informally, acknowledge the independence or territorial claims of former Mardierian colonies." The Mardierians looked at them expectantly. Would Oleon accept this perfectly reasonable demand? Three cheers for the defensive pact! Negotiations are completed! King Philip will be delighted. To ratify the defensive pact as suggested, show celebrations in either Londa or Granoleon. This can be in the form of a festival, a parade, a ball, a monument, or similar. Creativity is welcome. NB: Minimum footprint, 16x32! Alas, under such circumstances... No foreigner is to decide who we recognise - we shall leave this place and these negotiations. Show the expedition preparing for or making its way home. Just a little more... Do you still have business in Londa? Are the treaty not quite to your liking? Then show what the expedition does in Londa. Spying? Further negotiations? One build is required, but more are encouraged. Option 1 and 2 will allow the expedition to stop, all vessels and troops being available next turn in Granoleon. It is possible to combine options 1 and 3, in which case the ratification build will have to be combined with a continuation build. Let us know if this leads to any questions. -
[OL - A-MCRA] Travels to Terraversa
Bregir replied to Captain Genaro's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
RNTC @Bodi @Captain Genaro @KotZ @Dukesc King's Port Since Hollande had delivered his last letter to the Terraversans, the amiable atmosphere had changed to one of reserved coldness. No more boats had arrived at the fleet offering gifts, and local merchants had increased their premiums on all wares. And while the Terraversans had kept their promises in regards to the building materials, the whole mood of the place had changed. In fact, it had become so hostile that Hollande had ordered all personnel, bar the minimum necessary for trade and the new HQ, back onboard the ships. There seemed to be no threat of violence towards the expedition, but anything might spark an incident. It was clear that relations with the Terraversans had to be handled, but that was a diplomatic concern (OOC: runs parallel with the adventure). Hollande had two other pressing issues that warranted his attention, and Oldis' gift of wine was long gone, with no replacement in sight, which made his temper rise. A message has arrived from Westface, with news of the rest of the expedition, now in captivity of the Terraversans. At least the ships were not lost, and the men in good health. But how on earth had they gotten themselves captured? Show how the expedition handles the captured men and ships. Diplomatic means (Miro Oldis in King's Port, or L'Olius in Westface? Both? Someone else?), subterfuge, protests? Will Hollande really let them rot in prison? Young Emile has reported that the "Huntress" wishes to meet the expedition. It has been quite a process to get an audience. Will the Oleanders take the opportunity? Who is the mysterious "Huntress", and what will the Oleanders try to achieve? At least one build is required to progress any one part of the expedition, but to progress both, a minimum of three builds is required. (And more encouraged) Let us know if the above leads any questions or comments. Genaro will receive a letter from Terraversa as soon as it is cleared with the NPC committee. _________________________ Also, let me just add that I am really enjoying these builds and storyline. It is a bit complex to game master, but it is great fun! :) -
We will not tell you where the camp is. But if you follow the clues, maybe you will get more information next time. You know the captives are on island 16, that there have apparently been red rascals there, and that it looks like red rascals are racing narives around island 20.. (Just make sure you let us. Eg. If you go for the option of following the red rascals, don't define to what island you are following them, as that will prevent us from giving you the next clue)

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Bregir replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
This topic is closed, Mesabi. Everybody is welcome to ask constructive questions, but similarly, everyone is also required to respect the response. Nobody has ever said that players cannot ask a question. But it has to be in a reasonable tone. (From both sides.) As to whether this was targeted at anyone: It was not. Yes, the WTC is possibly the only recent group to have bordered, or crossed it. (I haven't checked) But in the past others have done so too. And we design rules to encourage certain behaviours and ensure balance, not attack players. If someone was pushing rules, we would approach them directly. Sometimes, chnages will have an impact on some types of players, but believe it or not, we try to act in the interest of the whole game. ;) And nobody is being punished for anything, BTW. (Keeping in mind Phred's warnings, of course) is There are also several ways to build more within the limits, as had been mentioned before, eg. in size. So if you are in the lucky position of being able to build more, go for mediums or large builds. Or even royals. You could for example build 2 small and a medium each month, as well as part of a royal. Once you have the full stud count and quality of a royal, you can license that. Studs to profit, it may be more optimal to build a quantillion small builds, but perhaps that is one of the reasons for the rules? (Hint: it is ;).) Or you could spent more time on each build, trying out new techniques and improving your skills. Here are plenty of options. Further, we are currently processing a clarification of the rules, which may include a bit more flexibility. Don't expect a revolution, though, as our initial reasons for the limits still stands. If you have any further questions on this matter, please address them in a pm to me or someone else in leadership. Thank you. :) -

[SR - AMRCA - Doctor Thaum] The hunt for Red Oktober
Bregir replied to Professor Thaum's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@Professor Thaum: It was indeed the LaCrosse. However, no traces of the red october were found on this wreck. Maybe the natives or the other wreck holds some clues? -
@Drunknok The island on which the convenient distiller had been found was on no charts, and was probably just the top of a small reef. Weather conditions and damaged chronometers had made it impossible to get an exact fix of its location, but the mission for the expedition was clear. Northwards! To glory! (And a small matter of a monetary reward...) After days, even weeks going north with no land in sight, and the clouds over Serentia long left behind, the crew was once more growing restless (although the algea brew did make it a very comfortable restlessness...). There was no birds circling, no reefs, no cloud formations indicating land. Only nautical mile after nautical mile of open sea too deep for the leadsman to call anything but "No bottom with this line", even when wielding an extended deep sea line. Old one eye and Pip watched the crew grow somewhat apathetic, and the mood had dropped significantly as Sarge called from the masthead. "Deck there! I think I see land!" In the middle of the open sea was what appeared to be an island. It was no more than 100 yards across and had a rounded shape, as if it was the top of a sphere floating deep in the water. There was no vegetation growing, and no apparent fauna, and the soil was strangely dark. But it was land! As they sought anchorage, however, no holding was found. All around the island, the sea was deep. While the Cranky Parrot lay to, One Eye's squad landed on the island and started searching it. It was as barren as it had looked, but after a few moments of scavenging, they found a wealth of glimmering stones. Half the party brought the stones to the landing, while the others continued their search, only moments after stumbling upon several curious fossils and oddly light minerals. As they all gathered on the beach with their findings, a spout of water from the centre of the island, as if from a giant pocket of air emptying, sprayed them all, and the ground started shaking. They felt the island slowly starting to sink below them! There would only be time to save either the glimmering stones or the scientific samples - This was the time to think fast! Science pays no bills! To hell with those bloody trinkets - save the precious stones, which are bound to be worth a fortune at any port! Show the crew loading (or stowing) the precious stones on board the boat or the cranky parrot. THIS! IS! CORRINGTON! We are no mere Eslandian profiteers! The fossils and minerals must be brought before the Royal Society, as they will surely be of great scientific importance! Show detail build(s) of the fossils and/or minerals and make a short description of the prime specimens. But where do we go next? We have come to find land, and find land we must! (And there is a bounty to collect too...) There are no signs of land and hasn't been for weeks. Time is now ripe for giving up on this wild goose chase and head south! We have precious stones to sell/scientific specimens to deliver! (You must specify in what direction the expedition continues from here.) One build required to continue, but more encouraged.

[SR - FB April 18] the Cutty Shark
Bregir replied to Professor Thaum's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Celestia, May 2nd, 618 AE To Dr. Thaum, FRS Notes on your lecture has reached us in the Celestian jungle and after sighting a few similar carnivorous plants on our own expeditions it found us most intrigued. We had not yet experienced the rather aggressive nature of the plants, but after reading about your findings we have conducted similar experiments and our conclusions appear to support yours. It would seem that the plant life on this island is not only beautiful, but also rather perilous! We are both pleased to welcome you amongst our ranks as a fellow of the Society. Sincerely, Dr. Albert Brickingstone, FRS & Sir Anton Hughes, FRS. Wonderful build, Thaum - Your interior is very nice, and I particularly like the window and the curtains around your specimen. And the plant itself shines too, of course, as does the remarkably well posed story! Welcome to the RSNP - The Society will be happy to license the build, if you wish to donate it. :)- 9 replies

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Bregir replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Will be looking forward to seeing your stories continue, Bart, now that they can do so in both real and virtual bricks! :) How long leave do you have after 6 months at sea? -
I'd also look at ship levels, as the current statistics doesn't seem to take into consideration the size of ships? I'd leave this up to factions/settlements themselves. But I would also like to see some default feedback from trade to settlements to give them a reason to try to attract more shipping.
-
Interesting and illuminating statistics, Elos. Balancing the tMRCA is an ongoing issue and the court is discussing how to balance it better, including making smaller ports more attractive. My personal take on it is that trade value has too large an impact on profits. To me, it should mainly be a measure for how much trade a port can sustain, not how profitable it is to trade there. The spread between factions is also somewhat alarming, as it mirrors what we have seen for some time now. It would appear OL has "cracked the code" so to speak, while the rest of us are still fumbling around. Anyways, interesting statistics. The court is already discussing balancing of the tMRCA as of now, but this will help.

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Bregir replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Max three builds by the same builder can be licensed (by anyone) as properties per month. So yes, if three of your builds are being licensed by someone else (hopefully with your permission ), no more of your builds can be licensed. This seems a lot harder to explain than what we expected! (Keep the questions coming if you have any doubts. We will do our best to explain if anything is unclear.) -
Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Bregir replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
You can build as much as you like! We want to emphasise that! :) So no one should get their stories stumped here. However, you can only *license* three builds per month per builder. (And since a settlement or TC is not a builder, they do not add to that limit.) If some challenges or similar have exceptions to these rules, we will do our best to publish that. Otherwise ask, if there is doubt. However, by default, they will not be exceptions. The reasoning for this is that we want to ensure that the rules do not encourage people to maximise quantity at the expense of quality to gain an upper hand in the EGS. It is not directed at anyone in particular, but simply an optimisation of the rules after identifying a possible loophole. -
Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Bregir replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
The limit is per player. So if there are three players in the game 9 builds (excl. A possible Royal collaboration) can be licensed regardless of the number of tc's, factions, and settlements. I. E. The tc does not have its own limit, but taps into the limit of the player(s) building for it. -
Great write-up as usual, CW! Two questions: - "Damaged" Does this status have any bearing on results? Is some profit deducted, additional upkeep charged, or the ship in docks for the next mrca? - "Black Flag Sea Rats" How do I know if a Sea Rat (or anyone else) attacking me is flying the black flag? I think this is necessary information.

Well, IC most ships do stop at Terraversa to resupply. It is a much safer route to go, as ships may get in trouble in any sea zone. If they do so where there is a port, there is a big chance they will be redirected and survive. If they do so where there is none, they will be lost. Hence, planning your route so you pass Terraversa is really the prudent choice. However, in our mrca, there are no intermediate stops. You go from one port to the next and do not carry over trade. It is a simplification of the mechanics which I think is justified to ensure playability, but IC you trade the whole route, so to speak. Makes sense?

[COR] HMS Windblown - Class 2
Bregir replied to Flavius Gratian's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas

[COR] HMS Windblown - Class 2
Bregir replied to Flavius Gratian's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Very nice looking little topsail cutter, Flavius! Amongst the things I like are: Transom and rudder: For such a little vessel, you have given it the perfect amount of adornment, and the rudder is great. Sails and flags: Brilliant! Can you share how you made them? What is the material, how did you fashion them, and how are they attached? And we need to know how you made the flags too! My ships need those! Decks and crew: You really made it come alive and the decks look properly busy with guns, hatches, crew and weapons. Masts and rigging: Great to see the mast divided at the top, great shrouds, stays, etc, and placement and size of spars are spot on. Hull: Overall nice shaping at such a scale. Looks very sharp and fast. I am sure she will be the bane of many a smuggler! Story: You demonstrate that even with a short story, you can give a vessel life and introduce it into the lore. Well done! Suggestions Hull: her sides seem rather straight right now. Some curvature along the side could make her look even better, although it makes internal space much harder to build... :P Sails: my only comment is that the topsail somehow looks a bit out of proportion. I think lowering the upper yard for a more rectangular sail, and adding a more trapezoid shape by increasing the difference between upper and lower width may help. Masts and rigging: I would suggest you try mounting the yards, gaff, and boom without the technic connectors. Squaresail yards can be mounted by string and halyards, and gaff and boom by a fork at the mast and halyards. Anyways, overall really nice cutter! I will adjust the Sloop for Royal Navy incentive to offer incentives for Class two vessels too, as we have seen some great examples. (Same payment as for class two gunboats.) That said, you are welcome to license her yourself, but I think people should be able to build these for the RNTC too, if they want! :) -
[COR] Museum Of Natural Sciences, Jameston
Bregir replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Nice micro, Drunknok. And very fitting theme for both COR and Jameston, and recent events. For the record, the BOBS era stops with the napoleonic era(the latest given anywhere is 1830, I think) so technically, your given examples are not within the time frame. I see no issue with the specific build, though, but we don't want to start experiencing tech scope creep, so I just wanted to to mention it.
