Bregir replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
An open letter to her Majesty's representatives in Terra Nova May 618, King's Harbour Dear sirs, I regret to inform you that two Corlander merchant vessels of the Montoya Estate and their crews are being held ransom in respectively Breshaun and Lavalette by Olean authorities under repeated threats of lethal force. I can only implore that no Corlander vessel should dock at Olean ports henceforth, to avoid same fate, and hereby officially request the Crown's involvement in the matter. It is regrettable if such practices by the Oleonese should rekindle the dormant conflict between our empires, and I have every hope and trust that matters will be resolved in good faith. I have instructed the crews to stay docked until a solution is found, and to give their parole that they shall do nothing to break their captivity until further notice. However, the situation is untenable and one can only regret the loss of cultural and mercantile exchange which has so long moved our empires closer to friendship and forgiveness. With every hope and confidence that a solution can be found, Ibn al'Sayeed Montoya Estate -
If they are in the same port, that is! ;)

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Bregir replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Dear all, Leadership is happy to announce that we are now introducing BoBS cards for vessels. As rules are developed, we may introduce cards for armies, properties, settlements, or characters, but for now, please find the rules here: Introducing BoBS Cards! -
Introducing BoBS Cards! Leadership is now ready to introduce the first BoBS cards, and will be handing out a few in advance of this months MRCA. The complete rules will be updated over time, but please find the introductory rules below. (All rules are subject to change) What are BoBS cards?! BoBS cards are bonuses awarded to players under special circumstances that gives a bonus to some aspect of the game. How do they work? BoBS cards are applied to an eligible asset in game, which could be a ship, property, army, settlement(?) or whatever else leadership thinks deserving, and amends one stat or the other for this entity. Bonuses are determined by leadership. In general, bonuses are positive, but negative cards are an option and *may* be given at some time. When are they awarded? The following are examples of when a BoBS card can be awarded. (List not complete and will be expanded. For now, BoBS cards only applies to vessels) They will generally be awarded for extraordinary efforts or luck, but you cannot and should not plan for or expect a BoBS card. There is a degree of randomness. And while some balance will generally be aimed for, if faction X makes 5 great builds and faction Y makes none, leadership will not consider itself limited by a need for perfect balance. tMRCA If someone achieves some extraordinary feat during the tMRCA, leadership may decide, on a case to case basis, to award a BoBS card. At launch, we aim for 1-3 cards per tMRCA. (tMRCA earned cards requires a build to activate similar to sistershipping and shiplimit builds.) aMRCA During an aMRCA, leadership may decide, on a case to case basis, to award a BoBS card related to the adventure. At launch, we aim for 1-3 cards per aMRCA. Ship mocs For extraordinary effort, improvement, creativity, accuracy or similar, leadership may award a ship moc a BoBS card. (Example: Elaborate custom rigging could lead to a +1 manoeuvre card being rewarded) Story builds or similar Leadership have the discretion to award BoBS cards for any build, storyline, event, etc. in all relevant cases. Can they be transferred? One of the characteristics of a BoBS card is its transferability. Similar cards may differ only in whether they are transferable, and transferability depends on the IC nature of the cards. An expert gunner will generally be transferable, while copper sheeting will not. If a card is to be transferred, it has to be located in the same port as the receiving vessel, and cards can only travel with vessels. When are they lost? BoBS cards are generally lost, when the entity is lost, or if leadership expires a card. Generally, IC concerns decides if a card is lost and leadership will decide this. Some cards, such as equipment on ships (new chase guns, exceptional compass, charts) will be lost if the ship is sunk, but most likely taken over by the new owner, if it is captured. Others, such as crew, will be lost with the ship, and not handed over to a capturer. However, they may be saved by an MRCA build (case by case basis) showing the crew being rescued or exchanged. Cards attached to the moc (and non-transferable) will generally be taken over by the new owner. They *may* also apply to sisterships of the same moc. Characteristics of a BoBS card Each BoBS card will have a number of characteristics, eg: Name Short description of the card Serial # A serial number to identify the card. Bonus States the relevant bonus of the card and its size. Eg. +1 to range or +2 to guns. Transferability States whether it can be transferred and to what vessels it can be attached, eg. vessels of class 3-7. Application States to what entity the card is currently attached. Is there a limit to how many cards a ship can have attached? Yes, depending on class. Class 0: 2 cards Class 1: 3 cards Class 2-4: 4 cards Class 5-7: 5 cards Class 8-10: 6 cards FAQ: Where can I see the current BoBS cards?? Will the effect of the ship cards show in the ship stat overview? ? First awards: The following players have been awarded BoBS cards for their efforts and achievements! Congratulations! @Professor Thaum Your experiments with flight have given the bosun of the frigate a new insight into aerodynamics, leading him to install stunsail booms. You are awarded the following BoBs card: Stunsail Booms #S001 +1 to Manoeuvre Not transferable Application: Andromeda @Bregir In escaping both LeColeon and Bloody Bill last month, the crew of the Satyr achieved impressive rowing techniques! Experienced Rowers #S002 +1 to Maneuvre Transferable to any vessel up to class 4 Application: Satyr @Mesabi The gunners aboard your WTC Riffraff have shown great skill at singlehandedly sinking the flagship of Zublious van Wreck! Experienced Gunners #S003 +2 to guns Transferable to any vessel classes 1-5 Application: WTC Riffraff @Phred The crew of the HRS Philipe has been busy in Harbour! While the representatives were busy negotiating, they‘ve found some friends who want to work aboard a first Rate! Useful Guests #S004 +1 to crew Transferable to any vessel classes 7-10 Application: HRS Philipe @Legostone The one responsible for managing cargo aboard the Green Winds III has figured out a better way of stacking the cargo inside the hold! Neither of these vessels appear to have been transferred to Corrington's fleet list yet. Can this be fixed? Pweeeeeeeease?! @_@ ;) @Captain Genaro: I have also licensed a replacement for the HMS Proserpine (free, moc-free faction warship) - the HMS Perseus, but I could not enter it without a link, so I believe I linked this thread.

Good work, everyone, and some really nice builds recently! Unfortunately, I have been rather taken up elsewhere, so I have only been able to comment sparingly, but I think I have seen it all, and it looks great. Also: The Royal Society of Navigation and Discovery seeks leadership! Acting under the Parliament of Science, reporting to the Secretary of Discovery, the RSND will be led by a loyal Corlander appointed chairman by the ministry. To assist him in his duties, up to two vice presidents can be appointed, who, in the chairmans absence, have full discretion over the Society's assets. One will be the VP of Security, in charge of all military capabilities and dispositions, the other the VP of Operations, in charge of all civilian assets. Loyal Corlanders interested in taking up these positions: Please post here a short description of the character applying for the position in the form of a short job application. Picture required. Remember that the RSND is a scientific organisation, so relevant profiles and experience is expected. It can be new characters, and you may submit as many applicants as you like. Every Corlander is allowed to apply (more details about the purpose is found in our PM), but I would like to remind @LM71Blackbird, @Ayrlego and @Drunknok, who have expressed particular interest. Leadership will be looking forward to reviewing the applicants! -
ETTC paid the 500 to LeColeon for Tuna King. And @Legostone, I will be happy to help create an auction setup next month that does not require constant attention... ;)
-
It does not seem to accept my bids and I am on my phone, so I am just going to state it here. The ETTC bids 500 for each of the class 3 merchant ships.

A) I seem to remember that a small plantation requires a larger footprint than other small properties. So the subject matter is fine, but the stud footprint may be too low. B) Check out this thread: https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/150351-about-ships/ -
I have a feeling Tony's stories will lead to a few raised eyebrows in the next tavern he visits (I know he is not one to keep silent with his exploits ;))! Also, I thought baguettes were an Oleander choice of weapon - has Tony been frequenting an Oleander fencing master? :P Looking forward to where this goes!

Looks great! Depending on the sail plan you are going for, you should reconsider mast placement. I would suggest finding a picture of a real ship to benchmark against. Right now, your foremast seems far too far aft. :) -
So it is not a sistership by the new rules? (I.e. the moc has only been licensed once under the new rules?) Links should be in the form responses, no?
-
This will have to be confirmed, but I do not think it is a sistership under the new rules, as it was sistershipped before the big relicensing. Perhaps you can see this in the ship registry? This is probably something we should clarify in court. I am fairly certain we have discussed it, but I am not sure what we agreed.

Interesting surveys and results, Agent Kallus! I like the sampling of the soil, and particularly the grating to map the bedrock. It would be nice to see the full palm - I like how you made the trunk, but I wonder what you did for the top!

@Spud The Viking You could go for a small armed cutter like this one. Searching for "armed cutter" on google gives some good results. @Legostone may even have some plans for something that size, or perhaps for an armed schooner, which could also be good for such a size. (Probably a class 3 or 4) -

That is generally what it means, yes, but you will also see upkeep deducted from your account. :) -
The ETTC and myself have placed a few bids. Two comments: - Misfortune's Wrath seems to be misspelled. My bid is hence not showing up - 750 for the Lady Jacqueline?!? :O

@Bodi She was looking fine! Reminds me of my own SOTL (first ship in this thread, still WIP :P ). Difference is that I am using bent sides, which can actually be quite sturdy. Looking forward to following your new construction. @Roadmonkeytj I agree with Drunknok (Say WHAAAAT?!? ) - with 6 "effective" mid sections and one deck, she would be a class 7. Looking right fine, btw! :) @gedren_y Please remember that the archetypes are ALWAYS the benchmark, not other licensed ships. With that length and such a narrow hull (8 studs?) I agree that she is a class 3. If you put her next to the Otter, I even think she will look a tad small. She looks very sleek and fast, though, with that narrow hull. I would lower the booms of the gaff (fore-and-aft) sails, though, and make the masts taller. For a (topsail) schooner, the masts would be in two parts, divided over the gaff. (the upper boom of the fore-and-aft sails.) Unless you want to make her a ketch, your second mast seems a bit far aft. For a schooner, the second mast is the main-mast, while on a ketch, it is the mizzenmast (making the forward mast the mainmast). -
Nice build and story, LS! You might want to mention which of the ships are actually MOC'ed. (The HMS Proserpine, for instance, was not, being one of the 3 free faction class 5 ships)

@Mesabi Pan's Independen Contracters presented the Count with an offer he was hardly in a position to reject. Low on water, provisions, cordage, spars, ammunition, and, perhaps most importantly, money, Count Mesabi's little fleet was virtually landlocked. However, the Contractors were offering to resupply the expedition and even add some payment to the bargain. What they were offering seemed too good to be true - Darby had insisted that there must be a catch, but the Count had dismissed him. Very little was known of the organisation, but it did not seem (directly) connected to the Sultan of Pan. There were now three choices: "We need you to ferry a few... 'passengers' to Kemblar..." The expedition must take on a few incognito passengers and ferry them to Kemblar. It is imperative that they are not discovered! Should the expedition be exposed, it is highly likely that both passengers and crew will be killed or taken hostage. The Contractors will deny any knowledge of the operation. The Contractors will resupply you and pay 300 dbs for your services. Show the incognito passengers and give a description of their backstory, including why they are going to Kemblar, and why the authorities in Kemblar must not get word of their arrival. "A matter of a camel..." An important man in Pan has lost the fastest racing camel in all of Guelph to a Mokolei bey in a game of chance. Unsurprisingly, he wants it back. Go west into Mokolei and steal the Camel from the palace of the Bey. The Contractors will resupply you and pay you 500 dbs for your services. Show the expedition scoping out the palace and describe their plan to steal the camel. This smells fishy.... You shall not smear the good name of Count Mesabi with your nefarious schemes! We shall adapt and overcome, and make our way to Kemblar. Show the expedition somehow procuring supplies in Pan. Do you con the Contractors, steal from a warehouse, or similar? At least one build is required to continue, but more are encouraged. Should you decide to take option 2, it is likely, but not certain, that option 1 will still be available once you return to Pan.
