  1. I like the idea of developing the same site in one, expanding/developing mod! :) And I like that you seem to be taking a practical, civilian perspective, with the practical challenges. Makes me wonder if GoH and especially Kaliphlin ever had aqueducts!
  2. Thanks for all the nice comments, everyone! I might revisit this MOC in the coming days to try to incorporate some of your feedback. If so, I will make sure to update it here! :)
  3. Thanks, Gideon - something in your posted URL wouldn't work, but I fixed the link now.
  4. By the way - New freebuild up for the task 4 (HSS): Kaliphlinite Market
  5. I would like to claim the following credits for my build the Kaliphlinite Market. Trade and Law marketplace [*]Anthropology life in Kaliphlin
  6. What I meant
  7. Before you, you see a busy corner of the Kaliphlinite market in the Trifork. Situated in the old town amidst the Kaliphlinite neighbourhood surrounding the South Gate, it offers all the heart may desire in both exotic and common goods. People of all kinds frequent the market to trade or to seek anonymity amongst the masses for more or less shadowy business. Frederick the Fishmonger is hawking his wares, while a travelling baker is trying to get the attention of the visitors: "I bet you a nice, fine loaf o' bread would go nicely with that fishie, Ma'm!" The visiting elf sends a dissaproving glance towards the traders and their sales strategies. Nearby, the master of the Kaliphlinite Market Gold Exchange offers his services in exchanging the multitude of currencies brought to the market from the people passing through from all corners of Historica. All that matters here is the weight in gold. Passing through, a leander soldier is amused by the bustle of the marketplace. Please let me know what you think of this vignette. I quite like it, and think I got a good deal of life into a small space. (Which proved smaller than expected...) I hope I captured the Kaliphlinite feel quite well, although I would have liked some more space to put in more developed market stands. I experienced a bit with photoediting, which is why there is some difference in colours/etc. between the pictures. A specific detail: The scales - I couldn't seem to find any examples of others building scales, but I think it turned out reasonably well, although the stand is still bugging me. Further, I would like to claim the following UoP credits: Anthropology - life in Kaliphlin (Although it happens in Avalonia, the influence is heavily Kaliphlinite - Let me know if that is acceptable.) Trade and Law - marketplace Thanks for looking!
  8. Just my two cents in this discussion: 1) I think you found a good solution with Gideon regarding the Barqan connection. 2) As most of the cities/locations/people/etc. are "player built" I would suggest caution in using those that are not your own. Not that you can't - just make sure you give it some thought beforehand and possibly agree with the player in a PM first, if it is anything significant. /Bregir
  9. Great scene and story, Behemoth. I will be looking forward for the following chapters Further, I really like your minifig posing.
  10. What a wonderful place to live that must be! (If it's not too damp ) And as others have said, this would fit right into the shire! (If only the door was lower and rounder! )
  11. *Beorthan enters, bowing* My Lord Regent, I simply must have the name of your military engineer! Great build - Seeing Benoic rise through the HSS will surely be a sight to sore eyes.
  12. The only reasonable explanation for me not having replied to this already must be the great big "thumb" my jaw made, when it hit the table last I looked here! That is quite a comeback  I won't give specific praise - there is simply too much to mention!
  13. I especially like the rockwork and that beautiful tree! But the tower itself has a very realistic feel to it, too. I do agree with Behemoth, in that your story (which is both wellwritten and amusing, although tragic / ) would benefit from using different formats for different kinds of narration. I would suggest copying the "rules" laid out in the Grand Griffon Tavern thread, to reuse a working format. Anyways, I can't wait to see the next phases.
  14. *Is dancing a victory dance and singing* We are the champions, We are the... *cough cough* Sorry, where was I? *Sir Beorthan bows deeply* I most humbly accept the title as "Gatekeeper of the East" and shall bear it with pride. I vow myself and the lands of the Trifork to this honourable duty. *He rises, offering his sword to the Lords Regent before him* Also, congrats to the organizers for the great challenge and execution; to all participants for the great entries all around; and to the new titleholders. I trust Avalonia shall prosper under the joint leadership of Lords Regent DeGothia and Simon. What a lovely ship! I really like the use of the capes, and how you made it very stubby, but still looking seaworthy. Can't wait to see the final build! Kaliphlinite market by beorthan, on Flickr Also, a preview to my next build for the HSS (task 4) - The Kaliphlinite market of the Trifork. I need to break out my proper camera, arrange better lightning conditions, and write up a description. Bregir out for now - May the Special be with you...
  15. I know this might be reviving an old thread, but reading up on my Historica history (...) I am wondering if the reasoning behind the judgment will be uploaded. (Maybe in the style of the recent results for ch. II.) If not, that is perfectly ok - I appreciate all the work being put into this. Anywho, great work! (Maybe there is somewhere else, where the story impact of chapter I is elaborated?)
  16. Grand Finale! Good luck in further endeavors - I for one will cross my fingers and hope you may someday return to these lands! Edit: Is he REALLY gone/dead/... DUM DUM DUM!
  17. Very unique build - it really has a lot of character without standing too much out from the Historica feel.
  18. Nice Sigfig, Behemoth! I will be looking forward to follwoing his adventure and how your story develops!
  19. I do try my best. *bows*
  20. [A rather unremarkable gentleman arrives at the inn. Leaving his horse to water, he enters The Grand Griffon. Dressed in fine, but unassuming attire, only his rather large hat stands out. This is underlined as he bows and lifts his hat in a smiling, somewhat extravagant gesture, directed at Master Gabbold.] Gentleman: "Master Gabbold - I trust I find you well! A goblet of whhhite and a light meal, if you please. I shall be at my table." [He speaks in a dramatic dialect, emphasising the "h" in white and with rich intonation. Without waiting a reply, he strolls confidently towards a table in the middle of the room, smiling and bowing his head respectfully at the patrons which gaze he meets.]
  21. Lovely build - I really like how you went a completely different way than te legend beasts, for instance. The base is just great, although the trees look rather fragile! And I truly doubt the skull of a bison would give in to an arrow... Hi Behemoth, I think we are all looking forward to your builds. You have asked many questions about what you can and what you cannot claim for your own ideas about a civilisation. This is the answer - if you can back something up with a build and a backstory, it is much more likely to be accepted. I would suggest you put your efforts into that, and lay a little low on contesting claims in the builds of others. We are all here to be creative and have fun.
  22. My guess is, that is some sort of structure, possibly a dock - hence the rectangular shape ;)
  23. As others have said - what a brilliant way to present the results! Great work from both participants and organizers.
