Always think there was a bit of Casanova over that Simon... A very alternative build, mylord!
-
Great looking build! And you are telling me this really isn't a digital design! You must do wonders with your camera! My suggestion would be to try the bigger backpacks from the adventurers line.
-
Lush greenness, a mountainside and a structure ever so lovely! This seems to have it all. My favourite detail is the snow on the roof!

Thank you, Valdivus and Mccoyed. While there are probably too many different types, I was going for the untended, wild, shoreside, swampyish forest, where I think many different kinds of trees would have found their way. IT'S NEVER WRONG! Thank you, sirs - I quite like that myself too - tinkered abit with it before being happy about it. Shouldn't there be a price and a big blinking banner? "YOU ARE VISITOR NUMBER 1.000.000 - Click this shady link etc..." Well, Gideon, I must admit that the ground texturing was very limited by my brick selection - due to my tardiness in finishing builds and getting them photographed, a lot of my landscaping plates was tied up else where. I would have preffered a completely platebuild base to the baseplate, in which case I would probably also have added some water and the shore. But thanks for the tip anyway! Thank you - it was fun trying out different tree types. It really started out as a treebuilding experiment, and I thought I would turn it into a moc. Grazie! Agree - plateselection and lack of skill barred my landscaping progress here... Thanks Thomas, Gunman and dG. I agree some details could be improved (drastically), but it was a fun build nonetheless!

HSS Hospitality & Merchant: Tavern and Ale Trader
Bregir replied to Bregir's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks all for the feedback - I am quite happy with the result, and I think the use of alternative colours works well - we shouldn't be limited to earth shades, I think - At least the old towns in Denmark aren't! Are you saying your expectation were low? Joke aside, I tried to "finish" this build inside and out with interiors, no baseplate base, and a full score of minifigs, and it was fun. (And about the windows frames: Lego Western Rocks! Glad I got that before my dark age ) Thanks, I have been struggling a bit with photography, but I think I now found the right spot, lightning wise, to take my photos - Still need to work a bit with the settings and focus on my camera, though, and may do something about the background in the future. Thank you, mylord! I actually had a path planned - knew I forgot something! And yeah, maybe a few more wooden inlays to accent it and keep it all together.- 21 replies

Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Bregir replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
Good to see so many new members these last few days - I think we will soon need to *cough cough* widen our borders to make room for all those people! Well, normally task 1 and 2 are just posts in this thread with some pictures and a description, while task 3 is normally a topic of its own. (Normally linked to from this topic). About the hamlet - have you looked into task 4? That could be relevant. Remember not to rush it - its not a race - have fun and build carefully! Other than that - read a few topics and learn from what others have done. Welcome in our ranks. -
You figures are looking good - and I think they fit well within the setting - I will be looking forward to seeing their settlement(s) develop! The basic rule of GoH is simple, I believe: You can claim almost anything, if you can back it up with suitable builds! So I would agree with the above - don't claim empire - earn it. (While staying within the style and setting of the established lore, of course... Note though, that by the nature of Historica, it will be difficult to establish an empire, as that would probably require subduing several city states within several guilds - and I doubt builders will give up sovereignty to a horde of high- low- or medium-orcs... Or anyone else, for that matter )

Here you go: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=94502&hl=challenge Also, two new freebuilds for the HSS challenge/Task 4: Tavern and Ale Trader Lakeside lumberjacks -
After taking over a disused warehouse in the old town, a former travelling Ale merchant sat down shop and filled the warehouse with barrels of the finest ales from all over Historica. As customers started to trickle in, wishing to taste the wares before purchase, the merchant refurbished the upper floor of the warehouse to cater for this new need. As business picked up, the building was decorated, reflecting the rising wealth of the merchant. People of all kinds started to be attracted to the building and the smell of fine ales. Some visitors asked to taste several different brews, but never seemed interested when the merchant started talking about placing larger orders. In fact, they seemed perfectly content to enjoy the ales on site. A keen business man, the merchant decided to set up a side business, opening a tavern. Afterall, the ales were already easily available. _____ Hereby a HSS entry for Hospitality and Merchant for the Trifork. C&C welcome.

Maintaining a town, even a village, requires lumber in vast amounts, and the Trifork is not an exception. Its many homes must be heated, its craftsmen and builders requires raw materials, and its shipyards requires lumber. Therefore, some of the strongest arms and sturdiest backs of the Trifork venture to the forests surrounding the lake, where from the lumber can be transported floating by sea to the city. Near the banks, where the ground is sandy, the trees do not grow as tall as further inland, but for firewood and simpler materials, the convenience of easy transport more than makes up for it. The lumberjacks grow harsh and strong with the hard work, but are well-liked in town for the hard work they do for the populace of the Trifork, and for the money they spend in the taverns and shops when off duty. _____________ This is an entry for the labourer category in the HSS task. I experimented a bit with different tree types, and in hindsight it may have given too diverse a forest. I rather like the tree about to be felled in the last pic C&C welcome as always

You packed in a lot of nice details in there. My only comment is that it looks like the two men standing opposite eachother in the first pic appears to be about to get into a fight!

And I third it! I personally feel challenged by these details. But yours are really good, I think. Both the small and big anvil are well-designed and a blacksmith probably needs more than one size :)
-
I really like this castle - it has some nice proportions and a nice texturing on the walls. The studs on the gate are a great details for me. As someone said, it looks like the rivets on some steel band holding the door together. However, I agree that the studs on the top of the walls makes it look a bit unfinished, so tiling it could be a good idea. I am really looking forward to seeing more builds from you, and seeing this castle complete is on my bucket list!

Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Bregir replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
See, honourable *cough, barbaric* neighbouring Guilds *cough, cough, tribes*? This is how civilised Avalonians settle disputes - with diplomacy, honour, and logic. (Might be on account of these dreadfully tight tights... One really just want the trouble to be over with, so one can go home to one's castle and get them off in a bloody hurry... ) -
That's the thing about RP - no matter how strong you claim to be, you will need other players to buy into it, since you can never force the reactions of others. If you are god modding (e.g. making excessively powerful characters), and others does not buy into it, you will simply have a race that seems to "think" it is powerful, while others react to them as if they are not. Therefore, seek to create a believable story that fit well into the setting. That way, others will enjoy interacting with your creation. No one like to be the inferior part in any game, or forced to change their perspective on the setting radically! Having one or two points in which your civilisation is superior shouldn't be a problem - especially not if they have corresponding weaknesses. Others have already given you input as to what is "Go" and "No go" in GOH - So please take my comments above as general thoughts and advice on RP. I am not trying to tell you what is allowed and not allowed - only trying to give you some input on how a roleplaying community like this will typically work. Hope this was helpful in some way! /Bregir

Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Bregir replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
Welcome amongst our Ranks, master Leki! Great intro - lovely map and great way of describing your lands. As to your question on colour: It is my understanding that we are not too harsh on the colours. Flying the guild colours is a good show of loyalty, but I see no reason not to fly your own sigil alongside. (I am not the one to make the final ruling on this, though.) About scale - someone said Avalonia was about the size of France or a little bigger - Not too sure, though. You might be able to deduct the proper scale that way round. I hope you guys can agree on your little border issue and would advice a diplomatic solution making room for all. Lets not have a mini civil war on our northern borders.... Welcome, Osric - 'tis good to see more lords declaring their allegiance to Avalonia! I like the idea of the peasant lords and the conflicts or challenges this can give. And I think the minifig represents that quite well. I am looking forward to seeing more! I should think so - all you need to do is to name the location of the build. However, with the recent influx of new lords, I'd suggest you hurry and claim some land - Otherwise, their will be nothing left to claim! ALL HAIL AVALONIA! -

EDIT: Wake up, Bregir - You had that description in a separate entry! -

Welcome aboard, Lord Baconius, I trust our cooperation will be fruitful, and that many a trading post will be established to bring you wealth and prosperity! Aaaand, on the topic of trashtalk - We hug trees, because thats what we do! I can imagine Nocturnians or Kaliphlinites feel quite inadequate next to a proud, Avalonian oak, and not so much next to the twisted, lowly "trees" that barely grow on your barren lands... -
I had a similar experience to mccoyed - once you get started reading up on the lore of Historica, you get sucked in :) However, a lighter start would be reading the beginning of the Nocturnus guild thread and the new member guide - in any case - Welcome to the guilds! And do enjoy your stay! :)
