Diaries of Beorthan II: Departure (HSS Military)

Thanks Kai! It worked out pretty well, I think - the hardest part is to keep the placement of dark tan random Thank you, Mccoyed. I was going for a strong, well-built and well-tended look, so I am glad it shines through. Re. the area around the pump... I see what you mean - thats the trouble with mainly building when looking at the front of gatehouse - you tend to forget the back! Thanks, Carson - The wooden sections really came about, because I ran out of the angled pieces for the stone crenelations. But in the end, I think the moc came out better for it. Glad you like it - I did struggle a bit with the pump until I found that black tail piece Thank you, Alfadas! With gunpowder being out of the question in Historica, I thought a culvert wouldn't be too much of a weakness! I was conceptually inspired by your gate-build, actually, so hereby some credit your way. I wonder if there is a troubleless way to Nocturnus these days - I really doubt it, though! We will see.... *dum dum DUM* Thank you, Jorrith! In fact, the gate was initially intended to swing up, rather than be raised like a portcullis, but there wasn't enough room. In the end, I much prefer this solution. Thank you - the bley syndrome is a dangerous curse to many a castle build - happy I avoided it! Good to hear you like the terrain - this is my first build with "full landscaping". Normally, I add some landscaping afterwards, and it ends up looking like an afterthought, by here I actully build it first and I like the result. Gald you like it! Thanks, BP - Happy to hear you like the flow! Thanks! It actually does anoy me a little bit, that I missed that part, as I don't really think it would have required much to give it the last finish! Dang it! -
Amusing little moc there! Keep up the good work!

This was well worth the long read! I like how you included both history, myths, politics, geography, economy, etc. This must be the most detailed description of any county in Avalonia! I like the maps and charts, as well as the small builds - you've got some really cool minifigs in there too! If anything, I might suggest a few more builds or charts to break up the long text, but overall, this was very informative and interesting. I will be looking forward to hearing more of these lands and seeing some amazing builds I wonder if you will be able to build up all the cities over time

It really captures the Kaliphlin feel - and from what I have seen so far, it fits perfectly in Ruadh! The Greco-Roman style really has a lot to offer and I feel inspired to try something myself one of these days!

New freebuild up: The Great South Gatehouse of the Trifork: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=101167 -
Having heard initial reports from his advicers upon assuming his position of Lord Mayor of the Trifork, Beorthan is presented a dilemma. While the Trifork is in dire need for reform, a delegate from Shadowmere, under the rule of Nocturnian loyalist Lord Vladivus, has arrived, requesting Beorthan’s attendance in Shadowmere to discuss a treaty. Beorthan has decided to heed the invitation, despite doubts as to Lord Vladivus’s motives, the complicated situation in Nocturnus, and his new office. He puts his old friend, sir William Drake, in charge of country administration, and his bodyguard Marcus in charge of training and equipping the militia. He then sets out, accompanied by his other bodyguard Cassius, his Nocturnian scout Tauro, and the Shadowmere delegate. They exit the town by the south gate early in the morning as the gates are opening and the first traffic starts rushing up and down the busy street. The Great South Gate stands watch over the busy south road leading to Cedrica, Nocturnus, and Kaliphlin, and is the most prominent defensive structure in the city walls surrounding the Trifork. It is one of the busiest traffic nodes, being part of the shortest route between Cedrica, Nocturnus, and large parts of Kaliphlin, and Albion, the Avalonian capital. The walls are sturdy but low, as the south road is the only firm land in the meadowy wetlands south of the Trifork. The heavy gate is suspended from the gatehouse like a portcullis, which allows it to be deployed swiftly. Thanks for reading/looking, all! This is my largest GoH build sofar, and also probably my personal favourite. I tried to improve my landscaping, and although simple, I think it turned out pretty well. The gatehouse have (sparse) interiors on the 1st floor, while the ground floor is massive apart from two niches for guards inside the gate-opening. The gate it self is operated by a working winch and the roof comes off in a modular fashion. Further, I stole a lot of techniques in the builds I have seen here in GoH, bit still think I ended up with something pretty original. You can find a few more pics here. C&C more than welcome /Bregir

Religion is surely on the rise in Historica! I think both the wagon and the architecture is really nice. The wagon is very imposing, and it seems this priest will not have to await the building of a temple, before he can hold his first sermon! That wagon will do nicely as pulpit in the beginning! The architecture is great - I really like how the walls, gatetower and buildings are so distinct, while still part of the same structure. It looks like something that has developed over decades or even millenea. (Only one question - can the wagon go through the gate? )

Thanks, dG! I just HAD to go through your flickr to find your maproom - there is a lot of gold in there! Its a lovely map - and really well-incorporated in the build! (Plus, I think it would be hard to build in bricks... ) My next build is photographed with an off-white background, so that might help. In the future, I am considering investing in a rollerblind to use as background.

Vladivus is certainly spreading his webs accross the lands! This is a brilliant build, Jorrith - It is really cool how you both get around to describing the history of the bridge and tell the new part of your ongoing storyline. Further, the build in itself is so accomplished, with all the little details all over. Great work!

Great many little details and nice description of the whole process. Love the landscaping.

What a lovely vignette! I really like it - its a well rounded thing all around - I really like the two candles burned to different degree. The groundwork and all the little architectural details are great! One of the amazing thing in GoH is, that it really shows that both vignettes and "bignettes" can be awesome reminds us all not to feel too limited by our collections!

Thanks, Scaevola, Sir Gareth and SarahJoy. The training ground was a bit of an afterthought, and could definitely have used more work. I am really happy you like the map room, as I think it turned out really well. Thank you, Thomas - I do feel I have developed my skills quite a bit. My upcoming build (a gatehouse) is my best sofar, should you ask me - I hope you will still agree with your statement after seeing that! I hope challenge III will be another chance to develop my skills! Dang it! Forget everything I said after "Goodmorning"... Thanks!! Thanks, Jakorin and Gideon!

Book II - Mitgardia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Bregir replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
1: Fleshy heads are perfectly allowed, but there is an ongoing (friendly) dispute going on about which is more "right" 2: Obviously Avalonia is the most Awesomazing guild EVER! (Jokes aside, however, this is just part of our normal banter - expect a lot of "trashtalking" between the guilds - there is a lot of (friendly) competition between the guilds.) It was in no way my intention to confuse you - sorry -

Welcome! (Even though you seem to have accidentally chosen the wrong guild! :P ) -
Lovely civillian build - and you have included their trade quite well with the turntable and oven. I don't think there is anything I don't like

Thank you, mccoyed. I found it a pretty good way to get the story going! Although it can explode a bit in terms of wordiness. Thanks, Kai - Come to think of it, maybe they should have had some contact to the ground...

The roof is nice, and I really like the texture on the walls, especially on the ground floor!

What a great many details in such a little build! Great work there About the song - Lucky me! I got here after the chance of humiliating myself had passed!
