  1. That's a good question, would they know how old people are on here ? That would be the big thing, They market LEGO for kids under 16, how many kids do we have on here now ? Were older and our opinions are gonna be different than a person 16 or younger I would say. So its hard to say if they read through all of this to get a feel for what people want in a set or the changes they would make to one. Dan
  2. I keep looking at it, and think. That thing is gonna be a blast to build, LOL. I see one thing I would change for sure, I,d get rid of the battery box and use the smaller one, then close the back up with either system bricks or panels of some sort. More likely panels to keep with the feel of it though, which will make it more of a challenge. This is gonna be one of those sets that's gonna be fun to mod and make improvements too. Dan
  3. LOL, funny you say that, I bought a make up brush just for this a while back works really good too, but air will do a good job also if you have it, which I do. Dan
  4. I,m gonna have to get two of these for sure, I see a XL version in the making, LOL. Surprised no one commented on the use of the 6 hole half pulley's in the rims< i dont think I,ve seen TLG do that in a set till now. Dan
  5. I,d have to agree, someone forgot too put the bushes on the ends. I just finished a 8258 and they put them on all the axles that extend past a lift arm or what ever. The last few pages are a funny read, people pissing n moaning about how a set doesnt look like a real crane made by a real company< LOL. Its LEGO people, get over it. This is gonna be a really cool set I can see it already, and we all know the mods to it are gonna be unreal after people get their hands on it later this year. far as not liking what TLG offers us, build your own crane., see what you end up with. You cant make everyone happy, but I can say I,m not one of those people, LOL. Dan
  6. I,ll end up buying atleast two of the 42009's, maybe a 3rd for future sale after its been retired for a few years. I see a lot of good parts, not that I don't have enough now, LOL. I gotta be getting close to 40,000 pieces n parts by now. This year is gonna be an expensive one for sure, LOL. Dan
  7. I think there a we bit smallish too, Think it would have been a better set if it had the 8258/ 8421's under it. Sorry to say I,m feeling the whole green thing either, but I may still buy it. The 42009 is a no brainer though, I,ll end up with a couple of them for sure, and maybe one to sell years after its retired. I think this is gonna be one of those sets like the 8421 or the bull dozer. Dan
  8. Look's to me like it has two LA's to raise the boom in the picture or is it just a shadow ? This is gonna be my first big buy this year, I can see that all ready, LOL. Any word on the piece count too ? Has to be over 2000 I bet. Dan
  9. 8265 ,and the 8053 are two of my favorites, the 8455 is a fun build for sure. The 42006 is a cool set for the money, need to pick up one soon to add to my collection. Dan
  10. I got back into it in 09, and have spent somewhere around 3 grand since then. Like most people I buy any of the flag ship sets that look good, and a lot of stuff of Brick link. Also Ebay for a lot of part lots at a decent price now n then. I,ve bought multiples of some of the good sets too, so that added up in a hurry. Part wise, I must have close to 30,000 pieces if not more. I look at it this way, you can fly planes and when they crash your out a lot of money. Models are ok, but its never gonna be anything else. You build it and that's it. We're lucky, we can build something look at it for a while, and then take it all apart . Then build something new, I think for the money LEGO's are a great deal considering this. Not to mention their not made in China, and their made well with good materials. Dan
  11. I built a nice skidder over the summer wish I could figure out how to put pictures on this site, not having any luck. Dan
  12. LOL, ya think. I don't think the 8275 is that fast. Dan
  13. A grader would be cool, a scraper would be even better, and not so much an elevating type. I,d go for a Cat push pull. Dan
  14. I bought two 8421's, one was never finished the other was built and then displayed for a long time judging by the amount of dirt on the pieces. The motors work great, both look like new. I would say look over the sets good if your gonna go the E bay route, ask questions that sort of thing. I did'nt pay over 300 bucks for either of mine, so there's some deals out there. It might just take a while to catch one is all.
  15. I,m thinking about making a run up to Troy in the near future to check it out. \
  16. Hey Dave, where did you find that banner ? Just curious, I know those guys, or more importaintly the owner, LOL.
  17. Nice blade, I've all ways found the dozer interesting because it looks like a copy of a D 11 and a Kamotso all in one, LOL. The blade looks a lot like a CD D 11, Cd stood for carry dozer. Another one of my project on the back burner, LOL. Theres a couple Challengers near me, to really build an accurate one, you need a larger sprocket for the rear. Something we dont have yet at our disposal. A D 11 would be an easy build because all three points are the same size. Funny thing about bull dozers, the blade is the dozer. The tractor part is just a tractor, hence track - tor. Holt was the first, later changed to Catapiller. they built a track type tractor for farming, later someone got the idea to put a blade on the front to push dirt, and the bull dozer was born. Dan
  18. You would be correct , Not sure on the whole think hanging on the front though. Have yet too see a Challenger with anything on the front. the thing on the back is suppose to be a mold board plow I'm guessing. Dan
  19. I thought it was kinda out there that the seller wanted that much money for the set, when you can go to the LEGO site and buy it for 79.99, The only store that has the claws so far is in Europe, and there close to 12 USD a piece. I think I,d just spend the extra money and get the whole set, looking through the parts list I see a lot of good pieces to add too the collection I have. Far as the set goes, I have it built up to the end of book one. I ended up building my own cab, and I don't have th claws, so we'll see what I come up with for it. Dan
  20. It will be hard to top the 8043, that set will be on top for many years to come. Kinda think of it as the 8421 of the excavator world. Dan
  21. There was a seller on Bl here in the states had 10 of them for 120 bucks a piece I think, then I got on there yesterday and there all gone. Dan
  22. Thats a good point too, when the new one comes out, will it take away some of the appeal of the 8421 to the point it drops in value ? One could look at the old red excavator, and then when the 8043 came out did it drop in price ? Thats another thing too, gonna be interesting to see how much the 8043 goes up in a few years now that it's retired. Dan
  23. Yeah, I bought a 8258 back in 2010 off the LEGO site for 160, I see them going for 260 280 on E bay these days. Like to pick another one one, there's a lot of good parts in the set. Dan
  24. When i was a kid, my mom bought me a 851 farm tractor set. I had the box for it up till about 09, still had the original price sticker on it after all those years. $19.99, would have been in the late 70's I,d say. I saw one on E bay with a buy it now of 90 bucks a while ago. Seen a lot of the older sets too over the summer on it go for good money. Dan
  25. The older track n chain pieces are not very strong at all. I built Han's 8421XL over the summer with a even longer boom, didnt work so well. The chain is not strong enough for a longer boom so I scraped the idea, and moved on. Dan
