I grew up on Lego Technic.
skylinedan replied to Dapper-D2's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
LOL, I have the 951, the red n yellow crane set, ( cant think of the number off the top of my head ) I have the old 78 farm tractor, that was my first. Last thing I got was the old VW car, still have them. I built the 951 a couple years ago when I got back into it. Now I,m getting into lift arms and studless building, I messed with them till I was about 15 0r 16, then they got put away till I turn 40ish, LOL. I must say things have come a long way since those days. Dan -
8110 Wheel Problem
skylinedan replied to sama's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I bought two 8110,s the first I got from LEGO, had to pay tax and shipping. That one cost me 230 something, the second one I got for 194.00 and shipping off ebay so it was a bit cheaper. I got all the wheels n tires for less than 20 bucks, just took almost 3 weeks to get them. Like I said the Unimog tires look a lot like your original ones did, my point was this maybe happening more than we know about. I,m wondering if someone got a set with "bad" tires like you did, got LEGO to replace them, then just puit the bad ones on ebay to make a few bucks. Dan -
8110 Wheel Problem
skylinedan replied to sama's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This is odd, I just got a set of Unimog tires n rims off ebay that look just like the ones you got with your set. I also got a set of super car wheels too, but they appear to look fine. For what they look like, i,m not gonna complain, I got them pretty cheap. Dan -
Thanks, yeah, I,ve ben reading a lot, and adding to the threads here n there. Theres some really good people on here that can build some amazine stuff. I see Blakbird is active on here, read some of his stuff on the LEGO site. All in all theres a lot of really good info here. Dan

skylinedan replied to mobi's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling

8043
skylinedan replied to skylinedan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Not done yet, LOL. Got 6 hours in it and about another two to three to go. SO far its been a fun build, I printed the instructions in blank n white so its a bit hard at times. It would have been nice to have the axle lenths listed on the pages too, but if you look closely enough at things you can figure it out for the most part. I did have to change one or two because I got it wrong the first time, LOL. I,m using a stock PF battery too, this might make it a bit fun getting it to fit just right. Thats gonna be the fight tonight after work, the rest should go well. Dan -

what is "technic"?
skylinedan replied to KEvron's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Does it roll up in a ball like in the movie, LOL ? I think that was my favorite one out of all the droids, thing is just sinister, lol. Dan -

what is "technic"?
skylinedan replied to KEvron's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I would agree with you on this one, This would be more a case of representation of a machine. We on the other hand would make the damn thing move with PF, then it would fit in the Technic sceam of things, LOL. Dan -

skylinedan replied to KEvron's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I would say Technic is about machines as a whole, we do use blocks, but the big picture is a machine. I would,nt say it has to be complex either, a simple machine versus a complex one is still a machine in my book. -

Hey, thanks. Good info there too, I was thinking the same thing about a grapple too, LOL. Here in the states they have a lot of nifty things thay put on the end of the stick as we say. I,ve seen stump grinders on them used for big jobs like taking out large tracks of forest, tree saws for taking down trees. theres a lot of things you could put on it besides a bucket. Dan -
Hey, I saw a while back one of the members here did a lot of re-enginering of this set, I can seem to find it anywhere. I have another one on the way, so when it gets here I want to build it bassed on his mods. I really like the joy stick mods too, make lot of sence being I,ve run real machines that use a 2 stick control set up. Any help or advice would be highly appreciated. Dan

Not sure i would say the unimog,s chassis is a nightmare, LOL. but its complicated that,s for sure. I liked it so much I just ordered another one, The older sets had their appeal, as time went by things got more complex, and more detailed. Sets today don,t look like square clunky boxes made out of bricks. They look more like the real thing, which is one of the reasons I like the studless designs of now over the older sets. Yes that older sets are cool, but really they don,t come close to the new stuff as far as function and appeal to the eye I think. Dan

I bought a Uni-mog about a month ago, and just ordered another one. The new elements are very cool, my plan is to use a lot of the new stuff to build a newer version of the 8421, with the amount of Lego,s I currently have, I should be able to come up with an interesting model. I also bought another excavator for more parts, LOL. Dan

I have some old sets, 952,955, 951 I even have the famous 8860. Those sets don't compare to the currant ones on the market, or anything made in the last 10 to 15 years. I agree with Blakbird, a ultimate set for the die hard Lego fans that would have a 4 to 5000 piece count could be interesting, but the price would be a concern. It would have too be a limited production set. The uni mog is 2000 pieces, and 200 dollars, so we would be looking at a 400 to 5, 550 price tag. Dan.

Thanks guys, I,m definately a techinc person. I have a diesel forum I,m a memeber of as well as some others so getting around the sie is,nt too big a deal. I read the rules, 10 post is nothing, that can happen in less than an hour, LOL. Any ways, I think this site will help me out a lot with the new sets n such. Being i,m old scholl this is gonna be a learn experience. Dan

Hey everyone, I should have known there was a LEGO forum site on the web, LOL. I,ve had them since I was about 10, built things till I was 15, then they got put away for the better part of 25 years. Two years ago I started buying some of the new Technic sets, and now my collection consist of 25 to 30,000 pieces. I look forward to learning some of the new things. most of my experience is with stud block construction so its been a learning process with the lift arm system now being used. I really like the detail of the new sets, its a lot more accurate then stud construction. Its amazine how much things have changed, the new elements being used. Dan

Thats easy, you mount the lift cylinder to the center of the box hinge it at both sides, If you have ever seen a side dump rail road car, thats how they change what side of the car it dumps on, they have locks on both sides, choose what side to dump and unlock the other side. cylinder, raises from a central point, would be a easy mod.
