  1. I picked up another 8421 last week, it was a odd buy. Someone started to put it together than stopped, never finishing it. I thought it would be nice if I finished it, so I stayed up till 11 last night and finished it. The box was beat to death like it had been tossed around a few times over the years, the pieces are like new though, not scratched up. It was a good buy even at 300+ Dan
  2. Wonder if it timed right ? Could be your a tooth off somewhere between the slide collar and the motor. Does it go one way , but not the other ?
  3. The other night I almost bought a 8288 on ebay for 35 bucks, LOL. someone put a pile of LEGO,s on there that was the crane. Not sure he knew what he had. Some one got it at the last second for a buck n half more than I had on it. I was kinda disapointed, I figured I would just build it and resell it for a profit, Oh well, cant win every time. Dan
  4. Where do those sections come from, I,ve never seen anything like them ? Look like something out of a oil rig set, LOL. the crane looks great so far. I started on one earlier this year and I wasnt happy with how well the turn table held up to the weight n stress of the upper unit. Kind wonder how this one will fare considering the weight. Dan
  5. I just bought a 8421 on e bay with 3 other sets in the lot plus 2 of the power puller wheels for less than 270 shipped. it was an odd buy, all the sets are from 2005, the crane looked like it was built and put on display. the tires look like brand new, as does most all the other parts. Not sure if I,m gonna keep the tires, don't really have a use for them, but then again we are talking the largest tires LEGO ever produced , LOL. Dan
  6. I had started working on a newer version of the old 851, had the frame and out rigers together. I used the out riggers from the 8258 truck crane and was gonna use the 8053 upper unit. scale would have been of between the two halfs though. I think a new set in the same scale as the uni mog would be a very nice set, price might be high though for the size, but you could have a lot of PF functions and detail to it.
  7. I,d like to see a planatery gear box that can be added to a PF motor, have a axle at one end and a hole for one to plug into like the motor.figure out a good ratio, you could run it both ways. could also just have a axle hole at both ends , add a no 2 axle to conect it to a pf motor. Dan
  8. LMAO !!!!!!! Good one Paul.
  9. Theres no way your married or have a girl friend, LOL. Legos never come first unless your single and live all alone.
  10. I,m game, LOL. That would be cool, get a bunch of LEGO freaks together, have a few beers, and go rock crawling with R/C LEGO MOC,s. Sounds like a fun time for all.
  11. Something I did was took some black conectors, axle hole, with a open hole at a 90 from that one. drill a small hole in the end of the side next to the open hole, thread the string though the hole tie a knot and pull it through, you cant see the knot so it looks smooth. I picked up some heavy black stuff for a future crane project, I,m gona use them for the main cables going from the lower tower boom to the top of the main lifting boom.
  12. I have two, and you can build a lot of things, LOL. I have a 8421 with a 8053 top half right now, its looks pretty cool.
  13. LOL, mine are in the organizers you get at Menards. I,m up to 6 and a few plastic small thingy do,s for little things. Right now there all sitting on the dinning room table, I,m kinda in the same boat as you Paul, no LEGO room, LOL. I,ll try to get a pick of it all set up next time I have them out. Dan
  14. I hear ya, I see them on there for buy it now at 999.99, and can only laugh. I bought one on ebay for around 145.00 used a while back and sold it about a month later for close to 160.00. I think I said earlier that if I bought one for that price and got it home, put it together. I,d be pissed off. I,ve god all the stuff to build one now, so all I need it instructions like you said. dan
  15. I built the first one, but never the B model. For 50 bucks back when it was new and in the stores I would say it was worth it, but not today at the prices I,ve seen people trying to get for one. 899.00 is a bit too much for me even if I had that kind of money to throw at it. Granted thats in a sealed box, the used ones seem to go for a couple hundred. Dan
  16. That is very cool, you guys suprise me all the time. Being and old school builder from 25 years ago I have a lot to learn, LOL. Dan
  17. I,m not out to rip people off either, since I found out about BL, I,ve been looking on there more than ebay. The thing I like is I can look up a set and see what parts I dont have and then see who does n for how much. I only look at US sellers, just because shipping is gonnna be a whole lot cheaper. Its gonna be interesting to see what a 8043 goes for in a few years after its pulled off their site, the shelves are bare at TRU. I picked up the older green n black farm tractor for less that 60.00 on ebay a couple years ago now, and I see some guys trying to get 200. Its a good example of a small set that doesnt do a whole lot. Dan
  18. LMAO!!! good colors, make it easy to find at the bottom of the sea
  19. I just watched a 8421 miss the reserve, last bid was 215.00 on Ebay. There was one on there a couple weeks ago for 265.00 buy it now, I just about bought it, but changed my mind. I picked up a set on instructions for less than 20 bucks, got those today. I looked the invintory over and see what I dont have, been looking on BL. I figure about 10 bucks and I,ll have evrything I need to build it. I have way to much stuff, LOL. Just dont have some of the odd things it takes to build the more interesting sets is all. I need to pick up a set of instructions for the 8053, I had one, but sold it. I,ve got all the stuff for it too. Dan
  20. Yeah, i saw this yesterday when I was in there, they had quite few log trucks and two race trucks, no super cars but did have a few flat beds, oh and two 8043's. I was kinda surprised to see that much stuff this time of the year, I,m not use too looking there for stuff so it might just be me, LOL. I,m a ebay nut, but since I discovered brick link, i think i,ll be looking on there more often. Dan
  21. LOL, people buy stocks in big companies hoping to make it big one day and have a nice retirement. I dont know if we would ever get rich off it, but I think we would do ok if nothing else. Once they pull them off the shelf and their a few years old the value goes skyward. You can buy into a company, but that does,ne mean your gonna make money. I think with these your pretty safe. sound like you have quite the collection. Dan
  22. Yeah, I,ve been looking at the 8421, best I,ve seen was 269 plus shipping, watching one now with an extra motor set. see how it goes, I may try to buy it. I would,nt mind building a 6 axle version of it. I also like the older back hoe, there big money these days, LOL. The crazest thing I,ve seen is a old early 80,s semi truck with a buy it now of 1,400.00 dollars. thats a lot of money, LOL. But at any rate, I tell my girl friend you could buy these things as an investment. take 50 bucks, buy a 8288, sit on it for ten years, never opening it,and sell it for close to a grand. think what an unopened 8043 will fetch in ten years if you sold it, 200 hundred today 1000 1500 in ten years. Dan
  23. 25 years a go I use to build a crawler with old stud expert builder stuff, it was,nt as pleasing to the eye, but it was big. I would say close to 4 4 n half feet tall. WIth all I have now I could build a nice one, been planing it in my head, just need to sit down and do it sometime. Dan
  24. Another set I bought on Ebay used, got it, put it together, and wasnt impressed at all. I paid close to 150 for it shipping included, put it on ebay and made about 20 bucks. I,ve seen them on there for 899.00 buy it now priced, after having it, and knowing how small it is, I,d be kinda pissed if I shelled out that kind money for what it is. For the money its just not big enough to be that expensive, but if thats what its worth , great, but I wont ever buy it again. Dan
  25. I had this set, but sold it for less than I paid( bad Idea, we go there ) . It was ok, but it never really did much for me. Odd thing was, I went to Toys R Us today and they had 2 on the shelf. LEGO pulled them a while ago, I guess they just keep selling them despite this. Dan
