Lego Technic 2h 2013
skylinedan replied to sama's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Geash, you guys over on the other side of the pond sure like to get you knickers in a knot, LOL. I was looking over the picture a little bit more, sure wish the boom was clearer. I wonder how they built it compared to the old 8421? Most everything is studless now so it will be very interesting how they came up with a 3 part boom and no stud bricks. Dan- 902 replies

Lego Technic 2h 2013

I really like what I can see so far, you figure the 8421 came out in 05 this will be 8 years after it. I think things have changed a lot since then, and its gonna be a big improvement over the 8421, but that's not to say the 8421 is gonna loose it's appeal. I have 2 of them, and when this baby comes out I might have to get a couple copies of it also, LOL. Dan- 902 replies

Sad part is I bought a 8421 in the spring, and it had a full set of the tires in with it. I later put them on E bay, really stupid idea on my part. I didnt think Id have a use for them and figured I,d get good money for a complete set. I got 25 bucks for all four of them. Now I want too build a newer version of this set only with larger motors like the true unlimited tractors we have here in the states. Dan -
LEGO had it on their site for 79.99 the other day, now there back up too 100 bucks. Bummer, I was gonna order on this weekend. I guess I,m just gonna have to pay it, LOL. I like the size of it next to the 8043, wondered when someone was gonna put them side by side for a comparison on the size of it. One mod we can do to it is raise the whole cab up so the bottom is about the same height as the roof where its at now. If you ever seen this at a scrap yard the cab is up higher for better visability. Dan.

That thing is freaking sweet !! I like the size of it, goes to show you that you dont need to build huge models that work like this one does. Dan -
Very well done. you spend enough time looking over all the pictures you can build like this, the inside and the boggies would be the hardest part to do though. The 4 jaw is nice also considering we don't have the parts to build the new one yet. I,m looking forward to getting this one as well, just hope its not gonna be stupid expensive.
-
The four jaw most call an orange peal, you,ll see those and magnets in the scarp yard. Some have shears too for cutting up larger stuff like old I beams and such. We have a demo crew tearing down an old K mart by us here in town. I should swing through and get some pics of the Deere's they got working on it. Kinda off topic, but I,m waiting on a new crawler crane to come out. Still need to finish the grove that got put on the back burner though.
-
Because my dear boy, he would,nt have the time to build awesome models like this if he was spending all his other time entertaining the likes of you, LMAO :)

Right now I,m in the process of building a studless version of the classic 855. The 855 was one of two sets I got for Christmas, I got to open it Christmas eve, I remember staying up late, bound and determined to build it before I went to bed. so for me , I,m not sure I could say I had a " golden age" , but I sure do have some memories of the sets I got as a kid, and I happy to say I still have them here some where in all my pieces n parts LOL. 8421 Crane Boom issue
skylinedan replied to DarkShadow73's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
LOL< LEGO would never even in a million years come out with something that big, but its pretty damn cool none the less. I have been working on a longer ram just for this kind of build, and yes it won't be a true LEGO part. The purest will complain, but until LEGO get off their butts and come up with something we can use for this application, I,m gonna make my own. Dan -
When I was kid, I had expert builder. 851, 855, All I had was studfull back then. I got back into it about 2009 to find the whole thing changed, now wee building studless, and I like it. Its tougher, but the chalenge of building things is better in my opinion. I think the end results are so much better now, but i,m not sure we,ve made it to the golden age or not. Is they room for improvement ? Thats a good question, I think its more about what new pieces they come up with, and the sets they release. Look at the history of LEGO, sooner or later your gonna have to come out with something that was once the set to have. the 8275 or the 8455. they came out with the back hoe, and it was ok, but nothing like the 8455. I think it will be hard to improve on what they all ready have released, sooner or later your gonna run out of ideas on what to build next that has never been built. Dan

I bought this set when I was about 12 or 13, rode my 20 inch bmx bike to TRU, and it rode home on the handle bars, LOL. I had the box up until 2009, that was when I got back into it after about 20+ years. I,ve bought a lot of sets and pieces since 09, kinda like to find a really good set in the original box just to have. I can still to this day remember riding there, the trip back ,spending the rest of the day, and half the night building it. Oh the things we did when we were kids, LOL. Dan

8421 Crane Boom issue

I,m working on a Grove right now and I,m thinking the same idea for a way to raise the boom. Not all that happy with the way the 8421 works. -
D3K's MOCs
skylinedan replied to D3K's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Cool, I did this the other way around. took the 8421 lower unit and built the 8053 for the top> I also built Han's XL version and put a 8053 upper on it with a longer boom. -
This was the first set I bought getting back in the LEGO game, I picked up a 8265 at the same time. It was $79.99 , now we see them going for close to 300 bucks. When the 8043 gets retired the price is gonna jump through the roof, For the part content, this set is awesome. At 200 dollars its a great buy, and will by far be a classic right up there with the 8421 I think. Dan

Build it like Han's XL use 4 cylinders, and plumb the other outlets for the down force. I did that and it helped withthe going down in a controled manner problem, seemed to help hold it longer in the air too.
