I think I might build mine again and do some modding, I have too, so I can build something pretty cool. I gotta tear apart my 8421 XL first, need the room, LOL. I,ve been thinking about a Uni mog cab with the axle set back behind it and a 8x8 set up. Not really a uni mog except for the cab, but thought it would be cool. Dan

Yeah, had to go too Bricklink and see what number it was, LOL. It looks like a good set, I like the phumatic one too. Its on my want list, seen a few on ebay, but the prices are a bit high. Ofcorse if I dint buy two 8421,s I,d have the money for it, LOL. I know the 8066 is going for around 55 to 60 with free shipping. I do have 8284, like it a lot. built it a few times, but never made any mods to it. Dan Yeah, had to go too Bricklink and see what number it was, LOL. Your reviews are very informitive, and I agree we need more like this. Be nice to read up on a set , learn about the pros n cons of it before you go out n spend the coin on one. One of the things I,ve been doing is going too bricklink and looking at the invintory . I,d like to see a review on the new back hoe loader( dont know the set number) Really like the set, and the parts invintory looks good for the money spent. Dan

8275 and 8043 old&new racks
skylinedan replied to Foggy's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I just got 8275 a few weeks ago, i,m gonna see if it has the older style. The one I bought looks like it was put together once, put on display and some time after it ended up on ebay. I,ve gotten a few sets this year like that. Dan -
Lego technic challenge 2012
skylinedan replied to Ondra's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I still don,t understand why LEGO wants the contest to be about building a Crawler when they just released their own. Maybe they want to see if the people can do better then they did, but still makes no sence. I think something else in the grand sceam of things would have been better, and still theres the dead line. The posabilities are endless, I think you guys hit on a lot of good ideas. This as I said earlier, is gonna be fun to watch as time goes bye. Dan -

I,ll have to get a few pics of my place, LOL. I,m a neat freak, everything is organized nice n neat in their proper place. Dan. -
Pretty cool idea, this was one of my first sets after being out of it for about 25 years. sad part is, I sold it not long after I got it on Ebay, lol, but not to worry. I now have enough stuff I can build atleast two of them, Wish I could buy another one, but at 200 bucks now verses 100 is too hard to take. Dan

Lego technic challenge 2012
skylinedan replied to Ondra's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Your talking about the rules and how there would be a time frame of some sort, Problem I see. Ok lets say they make a rule that states all entries could not be more than a month old in the making. How are they to know the guy didnt just have something sitting on the shelf he started a year ago. Yeah it would be cheating, but not all people play fare. I agree with Blak Bird too, theres a lot into a set and for them to do something based on a set all ready in production, on the shelfs makes no sense at all. Why not ask people to come with something new, say a new crawler crane ? This is gonna be one to watch for sure, Just doenst seem posable in the amount of time they have and stil expect people to build a viable entry. Dan -

9v battery box in an 8421
skylinedan replied to Saeble's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I like the all yellow part, you can make the lift cylinders into doubles with the two brackets you have too, all you need is two more cylinders, and more hose. I built the XL, made the boom a little longer, doesnt work so well. chain is too weak for the lenth, and its way to heavy even for 4 rams. Gonna have to redesign it a lot if its gonna work. Dan -
I,d have to say for the parts too, I,ve got most all the instructions on my computer so building the sets I don,t have is pretty easy provided I have all the parts needed to do it. I have doubles of some of the good sets so that helps, I look at the parts list for a given set on Brick Link and figure out if its a good set to have. I have so much stuff right now, space is limited. Dan

9v battery box in an 8421
skylinedan replied to Saeble's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yeah its the 8421 XL version, I took some pics just have to get them on here. I made a hood for the engine, but it looks more like a coffin than a hood, LOL. I,m gonna change it to a V-10, also added a bunch of lights to the front, and markers to the sides. -
9v battery box in an 8421

Hey nice job with the updated version. I got the EX lower built sitting in front of me right now, just have to figure out what I,m gonna do for the top half, LOl. I,m gonna build the boom next and then build the rest around it I guess. I,ve got three of the older 9 volt boxes, two are from 8421,s and there like new still. I picked up a 8421 a while back that was never finished, Looked like it had been put in storage till they sold it. -

moc - need some inspiration

LOL, been there, done that a few times. Sad part is I did that the second time I built the uni-mog, caught it before I got to far though atleast -
Just finished three extendable axles, I figure out how to post pictures on here you guys can tell me what you think. There all LEGO except for the main tube on the outside, I used 3/8" PEX tubing. The pull back piece that the axle goes in fits really tight inside it to the point you dont need to glue it. I,m gonna work on a phumatic cylinder that will give me the lenth I need to build a proper crane, and something like your set up. I want to figure out a way around the friction problem where the string comes out of the tube. Sometimes you have to bend the rules to get the outcome you want, people are using third party tires on their crawlers. SO what if a guy comes up with a working long ram that will work for cranes and anything that needs lifting, but no down force. LEGO comes up "short" when it comes to LA,s, LOL. Dan
-
I,m working on something that will address this problem, it wont be LEGO though. I have to go to the hobby store near me and see if they have the stuff I need to build it, I will say it is very similar to what you got. More or less to tubes one fits in side the other with some clearance for the string on either side, at the top will be two pulleys. No down force, strictly for lifting like your set up. I want to build a truck crane, and I,m not happy with the current ways to lift the boom. Dan
