Monster Contract: The Wolf of Drond's Feelds
Gideon replied to Mike S's topic in Guilds of Historica
Excellent beast, I love how you've posed it I'm not sure I'm very fond of the landscaping however, or maybe it's just the glare which takes away the immersion a bit. -
Nice interior details and great photography! I especially like the last closeup pic

Book II - Nocturnus: Guild sign-up and Discussion

Great to see you back in GoH, and with such an impressive landscape! As also mentioned in previous comments, I can't wait to see more closeup pictures! -
Historica Husbandry: Old Bruin and His Tale
Gideon replied to Garmadon's topic in Guilds of Historica
Nice foliage and snow I also think the trees look quite good, except for that they are too rounded on the top compared to real spruce trees imho.- 21 replies

Fantastic landscaping, I really like your interpretation of Nocturnus here The lighting looks great, which system have you used for that?

Excellent build with great atmosphere! I especially like the upper storey of the large house I agree, it looks like the place in the picture where a vertical line in the build is vertical in the picture is too far to the right. In my opinion, a shot like that generally looks better when the camera is positioned farther away from the build (and zoomed in), which makes the "leaning" effect of vertical lines farther to the sides of the build less pronounced. (Try using a focal length closer to 55 mm on your Canon 18-55 lens) When I'm on the topic of photography, I also think the second pic is a tad overexposed.

Ok, we'll just have to improvise then...but I'm fairly sure I'll end up hanging around in Cabin 1 on Friday night as well
-
If there are no scheduled activities on Friday night which I have missed, then maybe we should aim for meeting up at maybe 20:00 Friday night? Mpya Stedor sounds like the natural meeting point in that case

Only two days left until Skaerbaek Fan Weekend! Should we arrange a GoH meetup at some time when everyone is there but no official events are ongoing? I'll be there from Friday afternoon and will participate in the Swebrick Post-apocalyptic landscape collab (no GoH MOCs this time ). I guess there will always be beer in Cabin 1 in any case, so make sure to bring a PaB cup

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Gideon replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
I wouldn't mind continuing the power struggle in a more slow-motion way, much like how the civil war in Nocturnus never ended but continued into awesome collaborative stories In the meantime, I think it's fine to continue in the GoH way of "tell whatever you want as long as you illustrate it in bricks and don't intrude on other builders' freedom". What I'm saying is that if Ska doesn't tell us otherwise I think it's fine for us to continue the story locally and make up local outcomes of the civil war, preferrably based on the last stages of Challenge C but not necessarily exactly how that map looked. For example, my thougts is now that Barqa (which to my knowledge remained in High Council hands throughout the civil war) has entered a truce with the Desert King to open up the trade routes north along the Arkbri river. Desert King tolls and major losses of river barges during the conflict are however still keeping trade levels much lower than what it was before. I also think that Ulandian naval power still makes it hard for sea trade south, due to the extensive privateer fleet which I assume still is at least partly operational? Or is it just the fear of the Ulandian naval power which makes the traders reluctant to sail south without good reason...? In any case, there is plenty of room for us to build MOCs of for example local treaties being signed (or broken ), life returning to normal (like the husbandry challenge), rebuilding, hopeless devastation etc...or something completely different. -
What is that torso you've used for dG btw...?

Yay! Looking forward to finally meeting you in person next weekend then! Are you staying in one of the Skaerbaek cabins also? First time in Skaerbaek? Would have been nice to go to Antwerp but that will have to be another year. I'm taking over the parental leave in November and that boss (my wife) would be much harder to get to approve a few days of vacation than my present manager at work

Good luck on your journey home to Benoic! Your son is in good hands. A visit to Benoic would be a welcome change of scenery, but the first priority is to make sure that Barqa's food supplies are secured. I hear that the last harvest in many parts of Avalonia was plentiful? If Barqan glasswares are still in high demand up there maybe we could make a good trade? OoC: Lovely build, instantly recognizeable as Barqa I especially like the upper section of the building.

Thanks! I'm very much looking forward to seeing that MOC! I seem to recall that there is some interesting story to it as well...?

Nice foliage! First I did not really like the lighting causing the sharp shadows, but looking at it a bit more the lighting actually works quite well as sunlight from low in the sky I'd however like to encourage you to try to get the whole build in the picture in at least one of the pics (like the last one without the leaves).

Isn't dark orange a perfect color for the ground in semi-arid parts of Kaliphlin? And I'm so happy we now got olive green stalks! Thanks for the credits, feels good to be back in the University of Petraea again!

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Gideon replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
Sorry for the double post, but I'd just like to encourage my fellow Kaliphlinites to take a look in the UoP thread from time to time and review the credit claims there (and definitely in new threads). The UoP program relies on our peer review! It is still 4 votes from established needed by the way, or did we reduce that to 3? Two votes against is anyway what I recall is required to deny a credit. While I'm on the topic, could someone review my missing builds or alternatively tell me why they did not merit the credits? Still missing approval/denial for: Ice Fishing in Mitgardia - certifications: Fishing [Agriculture and Zoology], Underwater [Hydrology] = 2 credits (missing two votes) Duel in the Sacred Forest - certifications: Courtroom [Trade and Law] = 1 credit (missing one vote) Trial of Haxtarus - certifications: Forests [Geography] = 1 credit (missing one vote) Transporting a Valuable Load - certifications: Grasslands [Geography] = 1 credit (missing one vote) Please respond here or by PM to avoid resurrecting the old threads. -
Very nice build with some interesting details My favorite parts are the trees and the edge of the water. I also like the shape of the windmill, especially how well the roof fits despite the rounded shape. The water technique looks quite part-intensive btw...?

Thanks for the UoP credits! My first UoP credits in quite a while I think. Bricklink I think they are from the new Ninjago temple, but somehow a bunch of them ended up at some Discovery Center Pick-a-Brick in Germany as I've been told, which sounds plausible since some BL stores had hundreds of them. Same opinion as me I built the canopy to look like one of the trees you see along the roads all over Italy, and then had to find some way to attach it to the ground... Nice to see that someone spotted it! Yes, the water is sloping about 1,5 plates in total. It is actually just interlocking 1x2 tiles and plates in four long rows which are only attached at one end and then placed on supports at varying distances.

Thanks guys! It feels so good to finally make a MOC again after a way too long break, glad you liked it! Wouldn't be possible without the water from the snow and glaciers of the mountains of Mitgardia feeding the Arkbri river

Gideon replied to Sir Gillian's topic in Guilds of Historica
Nice build and great work with the photography, especially how you are highlighting the figs by using a short depth of field
