The Empire of Oleon: Sign-up and Discussion
Gideon replied to Sebeus I's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
A small attempt to flesh out the Oleander religious practices: Blessing of Poseidon (Didn't realize until I posted the pic here however that I forgot the beard on the statue while rushing to get this finished before I was going to set up the photo gear...maybe an updated photo will come after next photo session ) -
Before setting out on his travel to the colonies, Gideon Saulse de Bothnia does what every sensible Oleander should do before traveling the seas which is to seek the blessing of Poseidon over his enterprise. An offering of different kinds of food must surely please the Ruler of the Seas!

Great job depicting the process of colonizing the wilderness on that island! At this stage in history, that is what seems more likely than large well-established plantations.

Nice minifig combinations! This reminds me of the minifig contest a while back with the different cultures

[COR - Ch 1B] Land! There is land straight ahead!
Gideon replied to Mike S's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Excellent microscale island, and as I said on Flickr it is a very interesting design to blend the picture of the lego (thus keeping the lego feeling) with the picture of the waves -
[The Frozen Beyond, Cat. B] Ice Spiders
Gideon replied to MiloNelsiano's topic in Guilds of Historica
Nice creatures, suitable mounts for the Algus! Good landscaping as well But why are they standing up and not sitting down on the spiders? -
Thanks for the kind words and even more thanks for the constructive feedback on my first sailing MOC ever! I realized already when building it that maybe it should lean a bit, but I wanted to make the impression that it was only slighthly moving since they were fishing (probably the bow wave and the bulge in the sail are too big however). And more importantly, the canoe's bottom was only resting on the water tiles The reason for the dark tan part was because I only had the right curved slopes in reddish brown for the upper part and didn't bother ordering more from BL, so the solution was to try to make it look like the lower part of the canoe was made from some other material.

[ESL-CH 1a] "Maybe we can trade with'em?"
Gideon replied to TitusV's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Nice little build, I like the minifig posing It seems however that your links are broken (or more specifically go to pictures not publicly available). I only get "Oops! You don't have permission to view this photo." When you insert the BBCode from Flickr for non-public pictures you need to replace the link in the first img tag with a guest pass. For example (using one of my own non-public photos I've published here), posting [url=https://flic.kr/p/D5ywe3][img=https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1485/24336811660_ddd504b9e0_m.jpg][/url] would show the picture but would not allow anyone except me (and "friends and family" on flickr in this case) to view the full sized image. What I do instead is to replace the adress in the first img tag with the guest pass, giving me something like [url=https://www.flickr.com/gp/jonas_wide/8009ns][img=https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1485/24336811660_ddd504b9e0_m.jpg][/url] which renders the same on the page, but gives everyone access to the full sized picture -

Nice, you seem to have found a very good setup which serves you well! And in the cold north I'm of course not at all envious of the abundant natural light and heat you seem to have more than enough of- 20 replies

Native Outrigger Canoe This is my Challenge I category A entry. In the waters around the newly discovered islands there are already some smaller crafts sailing. One common type of vessel is the outrigger canoe, used by the natives for fishing and for travelling between the islands. A number of sightings of these craft have been reported by the early explorers of Oleon. So far the natives seems peaceful…

[The Frozen Beyond, Cat A] Last Blossom of Hope
Gideon replied to Halhi 141's topic in Guilds of Historica
Very nice build, I especially like the rounded SNOTed shape of the left side A small photography advice is to cover the back side of the build while taking the pictures (with a layer of bricks or some simple non-lego means), particularly in the second picture there is a bit of the backdrop visible through the cracks in the wall now. -
[The Frozen Beyond- Cat. A] The Algus Affect
Gideon replied to BrickCurve's topic in Guilds of Historica
Nice builds! I especially like the feeling you manage to convey of new vegetation rushing up after the ground has been soaked in rain for the first time in a very long time The tower and minifigs are also really good. I agree however with the comments about the bricks and plates under the ground seen at the edges of the builds, its better to use a uniform color there (and maybe some variation of that and/or moderate texture in the same color).- 16 replies
