Thanks everybody for the votes and congratulations to the other price winners and other contestants. Thank you Jim for the organization. It was a fun challenge, but I'm ready for some hardcore technic again, so Jim, bring it on...

It works indeed. I have used a similar construction in my LTM11200, but than with a big and a small turntable. However the tilt-resistance of the turn table is still quite bad. So even if it doesn't pop apart it still sags a lot if the load is not properly balanced. I used an extra ring of wheels to widen the base of the turntable to tolerate more uneven loads without excessive sag.

Nice helicopter (allthough it is not a very beautiful model in real life). Do you have a better view of the mechanisms between the controls and the rotors?

Nope we trashed them. We jumped on them to make more discarded models fit in the container.

Submarine version: -
3. James Bond Lotus Esprit Hi, Here is my entry for the Model team contest. It is the James Bond version of the Lotus Esprit. Functions: Steering Doors, hood & rear open Convertable to submarine First of all the car version: And some details of the in and outside (including a souvenir from James' previous adventure ) But of course a Bond car isn't a real Bond car without his gadgets, so here is the submarine version of the same car: And a final rearview: The link to the discussion topic: http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=98962

Thank you Yes it can transform, but with the poor man's solution: You have to take the wheels off and add the wheelbaycovers. Also the rearsection with the fins, the bars at the windows and various submarine accesoires have to be added manually. I made an LDD file before building it in real bricks, but half way the building process the file became so finnicky that I stopped updating it, so I only have a half-finished LDD file that has a tendency to become corrupted the moment you add a brick to it. -

Here is a teaser of the submarine conversion. I'm really pleased how this turned out. Still waiting for an answer about the cutting of the rigid hoses though. For now I assume it is allowed, so I have cut them exactly to length. Hopefully this will not be disallowed -
[MOC] Astromech FP-08

That's a very cool astromech... I'm normally not so interested in these contraptions, but this one really rocks. I love the way it moves, the details, like the 2 24T gears and the smooth operation of arm. Very well made video as well -
Nice model. Good use of the mixel pieces. The only thing I don't really like is the rear window. There is no natural flow from the roof to the rear.

Hi, Time for another update. IRB this time : And a view of the engine compartment with the four cilinder Lotus 907 engine (including a really nice green drivebelt ): The model is more solid then I expected, but not as solid as a real TLG model would be. It uses tons of SNOT techniques. To illustrate that point: in the whole model there are only 8 (!) normal bricks and that is including the 4 transparent bricks that are used for the rear windshield. It features: Openable doors Openable hood Openable rear Steering I will apply a few stickers to make the black line continuous and to get an angle at the front bumper And of course I can now finally start on the last feature: submarine transformation Comments are appreciated. -
I started building this in 1998 when I was still working as a technic designer @ Lego... I estimate the part count around 3000 - 4000. We could use a bit of our time to create our own designs, so there were some amazing MOD's & MOC's in the office. But this was the biggest & most complicated technic model that was ever made at that time. I think the combination of studded frame with studless covering gave the best compromise between functions & aesthetics. We still need some more clever parts to be able to make stiff & rigid frames that can support both big models & good bracing of axles and gears. So I do have some hope that we will see an even better age coming where we get the funcions back from the 90's but then in a completely studless building style.

Thx. LDD is really struggling with this model, that's why i stopped building digital. I had to save every few minutes in a different name out of fear that the model won't load again (as happened too often now). I guess all the SNOT, half-tile offsets and weird angles are killing the brick-collision algorithms. But so far the real life build is doing OK, it is much sturdier than I feared -

Time for another update The engine is more or less finished (still some greeble to add, but I an do that better in real bricks), missing bricks are on order, now let's hope it doen't fall apart in real life -

Another update... Red leather interior is finished. The dashboard above the steering column is too angled I think, but there is very little room to work with Again lost the window sill (still?), but I like the sloped red line too much and that interfered with my solution so far I also removed the orange lever at the passenger side, that was just too big. Now I do have to figure out a new place for it... Comments are welcome as usual Next part will be the engine...
