  1. It looks like a nice scene with a neat little border to frame it in. It's like capturing a childhood memory. My suggestion for improvement would be his legs (or lack of). I get that he's supposed to be in the water but it looks a little odd. You could put some short legs on him and then cut out a little space in the water to sit him in, then if you want to take him out of the water and put him on the beach you could plonk a 1x2 in to fill it up and still look good.
  2. All I can say is that this is silly (I haven't decided if it's good silly or bad silly)!
  3. A deadly man-eating venus flytrap?! That would instantly be +10!
  4. Some of you need to get worse at moc building, you're making it too hard to be a critic. I honestly can't find anything to fault here. It genuinely feels like an official set, the size, the colours, build techniques, hidden features are all very authentic. Ok, so I will nitpick. I think the gazebo could do with a little more detailing to make it more interesting. Even something simple like using some bricks with studs on the side and attaching some round tiles for example could make it look ornate like the islanders carved some patterns into the wood. I also like how you used the clip to secure the skeleton, but it would look better in a colour other than white. The leg is standing beside it so we know the clip is not part of the skeleton but being the same colour doesn't look right. Making it light gray or tan to match the environment would be better.
  5. Same here. I think it sticks out oddly. Especially when it's not clear what it is meant to be. It almost feels like something is meant to attach to it.
  6. I get it. I'm the same when I spend time and effort on something and then think of a potentially better idea but am reluctant to undo some of my work. Sometimes it is worth it though if you feel confident enough.
  7. This might be the best one yet. Lovely little island with lots of nice little features and details... and then you find out there's even more inside! I love the statues' faces and the colours are really vibrant and tropical. The underground areas really sell the adventure and mystery. Also, lol at the poor guy being roasted alive (is that family friendly?). It's just the right size for being a real playset and display piece in one with an abundance of extra features. Good job! But this is also a critic contest. Therefore I must be critical. I will pick on the waterfall. I get that there is limited space and can't create an entire river, but I think just pushing the source a little further back would make it a little more aesthetically pleasing. It kind of just pops out of nowhere with the rock edge being very straight edged, even making it a bit more rough and "rocky" could help. Also there is a gap at the bottom of the waterfall which irks me a little. I don't know if there's a way to fill it in while still maintaining play function.
  8. Yeah, I agree that it seems reasonable. Sometimes you have to sacrifice something. It looks kind of nice with the technic elements more exposed but I think the plate is needed more for studs for more placement options which still can't be done with three separate plates.
  9. I don't mind the colour of the water, but I think it looks a little flat and could be improved by adding some highlights to it, like some lighter blue to highlight waves washing along the shore or some crests here and there. Besides that I think it's a good build and like the authentic colours chosen for the building. It's a nice shape too with, especially with the tower, it would make a good standalone set.
  10. Pretty nice build with a lot of cool little detail work (I like the use of a yellowed skeleton) and putting it at an angle makes it look like he's slowly sinking into the sea. The way you've made the water using a string net is a good idea, I think it would look even better if you added some more if you have another net or two to use. I think the edge of the ship where it's broken in two could look a bit more "broken" with fractured wood and splintered beams. It looks like too much of a clean cut like it was done with a knife.
  11. Hmm. I like the slope, it makes it more interesting than just a flat surface, but I guess maybe the stall should be more level with a small platform underneath perhaps, it doesn't look like how any building in real life would be or how anyone would set up a stall (and her poor back standing like that all day). I think it's small enough to have the right side dip into the road a little (one plate deep maybe) and look okay while the left is a little higher. Also, it needs more fruit, like some more apples spilling out from the crate down the street (did Steve steal the only one? ) or bananas hanging from the awning. It's a fun little scene overall!
  12. Yes, but it still has to be presented artistically. For example, The Last Supper has everyone on one side of the table when realistically they would be sitting on both sides, but Da Vinci didn't paint it that way because then you would only see half of everyone's faces. My two pence.
  13. The real build is a lot better than the digital one. I really like using the technic beams as the base and how you've connected everything to it from the plate to the ropes and the oar. If there is one thing I think could be improved on is the plate itself, it looks a bit plain and "flat." I think if you instead use some 2x8 or 2x10 plates and off-set them (my new word for today) by one or two studs each it would create a more "rafty" and make-shift appearance.
  14. Oh, I can see that now. I didn't notice where it was off-set before. I would have otherwise suggested some curved slopes or cheese wedges on their sides but it looks like that would be a lot more difficult to implement.
  15. Nice little build, feels like the perfect size for its purpose. There are some nice shapes and well constructed angles in there especially towards the bow. My own little critique is I don't think the grill slopes look right on it. I'm guessing there isn't a slope without a grill, but a 1x1 or even a curved 1x2 would still make good substitutes in my opinion. Also, I'm not entirely sure what the technic half pin under the bridge is supposed to represent? Is it a cannon or porthole or something?
  16. Ah, it's hard to find anything to critique in these entries. I wish I was half as talented and creative as this! Erm... let's see... how about it would look better if there was some visible damage to the fortress? We see some invading soldiers, but what if a wall or tower got struck by a cannonball during the assault and now has a large gash in it with debris and rubble and fire? Sell the peril and urgency of escape.
  17. Impressive! Most impressive! There's been quite a bit said already so I won't repeat too much, but it looks really nice and captures that classic Lego vibe. Also if I ever get the inspiration for a moc I might try that recipe you mentioned to make sails. I guess my critical point is a bit nitpicky but the first thing that stood out to me was the little ledges under the sides of the ship. They look a little blocky compared to the rest of the hull and could look better using some inverted curved slopes perhaps just to clean it up.
  18. This is a really good build! Hard to find anything to criticise. The statue's great, I love the use of technic half pins for eyes and using the underneath of a jumper plate as teeth! I guess if I have to be a critic, there's a bit too much being crammed into such a small space. Either make more space or repriotise something somewhere, like make the shrine a little smaller, or even try putting the statue on top of the shrine and make it a part of it.
  19. Maybe, I don't see why they wouldn't fit but the figures would still be out of scale in my opinion. I still think it's a novel idea that would work better with the build designed around the figure stickers instead of them being added afterwards.
  20. That is a fair point, I hadn't noticed. Still, I don't typically like studless builds, when I see one it's like its almost ashamed of being Lego.
  21. You can buy unofficial replacement stickers: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/293575040436 or https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/276323372881?itmmeta=01J4AD6NXNRS52V4J9P0RGD1EF&hash=item4056280f51:g:s~YAAOSwnAZlw0UG&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA4NJLwd14Vp0xrHc2Y5HLt%2FUliXllCqAVgKlHbsaerEdZDNxTqH3WZnEvq9xaaBGw0oeG7dSHKGFiaUHTAYBapjJtDrFNuF2I5cHB0IlXt4nIqm8%2Fss2ZqXkiQRJtG8k1B7fwQjTEPFPQwPY4XKE2cgQLP75Nph%2BlyZxCG0hJoBx77Zru3vBLTn1ySajVQCo3oFC0h3YaLsVmLu2OEDCwCX5r9NXP2CoiJF0XcgXFubaVZ96pzhrQCVvnPVFG6j57kiw%2FgX%2BREBXFX0n3772FEdKj9%2FwieHQ%2BvgiYH3c0UwGM|tkp%3ABk9SR_Tems2iZA&edge=1
  22. I love seeing old and new grays mixed together like this, makes it a lot more textured than just light and dark blay. You also have used a lot of interesting and unconventional parts to make the rock face. I also agree with the other critic however, it does need a little more colour, even if it's just a few scraggly bits of plant here and there, but I like it overall. The moc reminds me of the Stairs of Cirith Ungol from Lord of the Rings.
  23. What are those two prints you have with your display? Are they from magazines? I always liked the picture with Johnny and Achu.
  24. Nice! I love Adventurers! Your dad was wise to keep 5986 for so long. It's so hard to find these days, especially in Europe.
