LEGO City is probably THE most conservative TLG theme so I do not have much hope for any of these suggestions. It's been fire/police/construction ever since Town died .. I really do wonder just what goes on at those board meetings TLG have gone through loads of public crap regarding Friends and it's stereotypical girlie pinkness .. but actually City is much worse. There's some pretty cool sets in the Friends theme .. hell, they even got a place to shit .. but City? No, that's a place filled with robbers and fire

Where do Rare/HTF Parts come from?
1974 replied to Turaga of Force's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'm quite sure that (primarely german) sellers that have large quantities of rare parts are selling them with TLG's knowledge Edit : Why would the buy them off ebay? They buy them close to the source -

It came in brown in 7184 You can search a BL store using HTF (hard to find) or RARE in the comments. Some stores have quite a lot of those parts, like this shop : http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=icemanr -
Where do Rare/HTF Parts come from?
1974 replied to Turaga of Force's topic in General LEGO Discussion
That's one of their sources. Many parts are produced in colours not available in sets for the model builders in the parks etc. They may also be stocked up in Billund awaiting to be used in sets in 2014/15/16 etc .. I have many such parts (like pneumatic cylinders in many different colours), I even have parts that are NOT found in any sets at all but are verified genuine LEGO parts. most of these come from (former) employees in Billund and have not been purchased at Bricklink -
A town hall is supossed to be much bigger .. Really I don't get the complaints about size (earlier complaints was about the lack of interior design, sigh), please stroll along a street with similar buildings, they're are ALL differet size! Be it Paris or my hometown Aarhus (with similar architechture) Don't like it? MOC! This is taking Modulars to another level, Modulars - like all LEGO offerings - evolve .. Wunderbar I say Many would prefer and many cannot afford, thus LEGO is true to real life. In a typical european city there will be houses from the last hundred years, all of vastly differet architecture

Great Jim While there's a 500 piece limit for each model, I see no such restrictions for the background/enviroment, correct? Also the use of PS is a little unclear. I guess you can NOT design background enviroments in PS but you CAN use PS to remove noise, correct?

You can get such cases from mouser.com in the US, but a LEGO compatible 3D'ed case would be much cooler

Your layout is made of awesome I too have had some difficulties in making it work in a large playset. I did get a nice one sorted for my city but only after I tore everything down and started designing around the monorail insead of just trying to drop it into an existing setup I'ts all gone now, and instead I have multiple smaller spacebases on small elevated platforms that I interconnect with the monorail I prefer the limited classic monorail instead allthough I have mine remote controlled (and thus speed variable) with a hacked 7898 pcb Don't find the chassis/bogies and that limiting (my cars are allways 4 wide anyway), but I would like to have another motor unit colour or the cover in another option than red. But that's not gonna happen

Grumpy old man! (<- I will buy you a beer anytime though if you get near my pub) But I do have similar feelings, meself But there's a really perfect cure for that LA'ed simpleton colour vomit, just buy MISB old sets. There's nothing like it .. Piercing the virgin seals of a vintage 1986 model, is justs (Just done a 8860, that - while not exactly the pinnacle of Technic - was a helluva lot more fun than a load of recent sets I've build) .. Back OT : Looks like TLG have a sort of theme going on with 42008, 8109, 8052 (and probably others). It's a good scale to do a lot of nice Technic functions. Room enough for LAs, pneumatics, motors, lots of gears, outriggers etc. No room for fake engines and a decent cabin interior though Big enough to build a vast array of vehicles, including some of stuff talked about recently, like cement mixers and garbage trucks - either would not take up an ungodly amount of panels. New curved ones could even be introduced for the cement mixer. Could be handy in many other sets/MOCs, no? I'd like this 'theme' to be expanded. It makes sense, pricepoint is also okay for me. But PLEASE TLG make some freakin' new wheels okay? NO trucks have lowprofile tyres like dat So, will there be a truck in that size this year? .. Looks like the wind up'ers are still going strong too

Blakbird's Lego Technic Collection
1974 replied to DLuders's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thank you for the answer. But due to your very interesting job you must see a lot of real world technical/mechanical solutions that could be done with Technic LEGO, no? Have you ever modded a set/MOC for better technical performance (not looks)? -
Be patient, he's a busy man. Lot's of MOCs and music to create .. and probaly some tedious day job to boot Those yellow parts are not super important, imho .. use black or grey MOC'ers can use any obscure part as they please. It's nice that some make plans, but I would not want them to alter a topnotch MOC just so it uses more common parts. It's up to _uyou_ to decide if those parts are important or not This will be my first build using other peoples plans. Quite looking forward to it as the 42009 is somewhat of a crap build as it is

Blakbird's Lego Technic Collection

Honest question : With all that building experience and your own job (you're an airplane tech, no? You may lie and say you do UFOs and spacebases, I wont tell) why don't you MOC yourself? You must have the chops by now .. Sorry, if I offended you :/ I use drugopedia ALL the time, it has influenced my purchased greatly. I've bought a load of Universel sets just for my son and he has enjoyed - and learned - a lot. Thanks I also bought all the Arctic sets -
I disagree with just about everything you wrote I have a rather large collection of Classic Space/MOCs (as in 200 sets, usually we do a 4x12 32x32 baseplate setup, but it varies) and it's GREAT fun for my kid and his friends (5-10 year olds). In fact, they don't even want to play with my (also large) OT Starwars sets .. Classic Space is NOT simplistic, In fact in has never been more advanced. You have exploration, mining, satelite launch, refueling, communication, etc .. NOT just us vs them as in just about any modern space theme .. Which is a too black'n'white thing I DON'T want my son to learn It's only AFOLs who wants everything snotted up and tiled away, kids (who are TLGs primary target) just wants something cool to play and LEARN with. And my experience says that kids think Classic Space is way cool I take great pride in teaching my son - and friends - all the aspect of space and space exploration. And also LEGO history. I collect catalogues. We enjoy flipping though them and I can tell you they say more 'whoha!' when looking at the old stuff Just take a real good look at the great spaceships/stations/vehicles from 80' to '89 and tell me there's been anything from TLG that's even touched that? (Okay, I do like SP3, but even the limo doesn't get much love around those kids. 6929 do, so much I had to buy a bunch and MOC a blue one and a Blacktron one as well) BL is getting my money, TLG is not

TLG belives that the ONLY thing that sells is conflict. Unless you're a girl, then it's pink. They make billions of that strategy so what do I know? I would really like to send TLG a Playmobil catalogue

Thnax for the review Quite good looking set. I would like to see something else than the Scania type of truck TLG have done over and over though Also somewhat pricey Then you must be really impressed with the 7733. Four pallets for 15USD less .. and that was only 5 years ago

Lego becomes world's second-biggest toy maker
1974 replied to Legoofmyleg's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Thanx for the anecdote. Yes, it IS strange with that asian LEGO boom? Is the EU/US market being close to saturation? If so TLG must be carefull. I think it's a real bad idea to alianate AFOLs (who most certainly do spend a significant amount of money that TLG cannot ignore) with reasent tightning of discounts on exclusives/LUG restrictions etc -
Cutting LEGO Pieces - Still "Pure"
1974 replied to Paul B Technic's topic in General LEGO Discussion
It's a broken defect piece. Some call that custom The only piece I've cut so far is the tubing in a MSIB 8680 -
I haven't noticed that?
