Do you build Lego models without using the instructions?
1974 replied to henrysunset's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Agree, but I find those alternate models on the old yellow boxes quite inspiring and I've used a bunch as a base for MOCs. I've flattened all my new boxes and put them in the basement (and I'll probably throw them out, 10XXX as well, as they're really boring), but I'm keeping the old yellow boxes in building room close to my Idea Books -
Quality suffered when production was outsourced to Flextronics, hence the mention. Then came the problem with the pellets that is still not solved. The solution seem pretty obvious as this experiement has been going on for years now and TLG cannot match the colour quality of old times

Technic Re-Issues - Why Not?
1974 replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yes, Allan makes a first non-pneumatic sense, so I fully agree! So much I'd like to quote him again : "I would rather they gave use the next level of awesomeness and mechanical authenticity" TLG, I got money, loads of them to boot, please PLEASE make that freakin' supa dupa car with working engine AND valves, (pneumatic?) gullwing doors, something else than wishbone suspension, a decent interior, slick wheels and a proper body as well 400 euros right here for you (Oh, I'm dreaming? Off to bed again ... ) -
I completely agree Gary. I have to buy old (MISB) sets containing lots of yellow to get what I want (and very much expect!). Been in touch with CS so many times I'm sure they're somewhat tired of me .. but they'll allways send replacements .. that sucks equally. I don't even request replacement parts anymore and I'm about to give up on just letting them know how much the current quality sucks I know the quality went down the drain with Flextronics deal and the new non coloured pellets, but surely TLG you must know by now it was a BAD move Bad TLG, bad And yellow is my favourite colour

L is just a generic length, meaning one stud, no? Can't say I've seen the M. Got an example Allan? cm is also used when cutting pneumatic tubes -

Yes, I think most of us know that by now as it's been discussed here many times since the forum's beginning. Too bad TLG didn't know that back in 2001 when they reintroduced The Guarded Inn -

Yeah, my son tend to do that. With simple sets, he can do allright. He just wants the box and he'll do his best. Not bad for a four year old When I was a kid (and it was uphill both ways, in snow) I had "Idea Book's" .. that really exercised my little grey cells as you'd often just have one pic. Now I got a kid, am old, and have Idea Books, but too many fried grey cells, sigh .. (so uphill again .. ) -
I allready said. And if I'm wrong, you can tar me and roll me in Megab .. Megbl.. mmmgaarhhh ... that other unspeakable wannabe sorta brickish thing

Yeah, those brackets We all know it costs as much as a small country's entire BNP to tool up a mould, so why the heck all these one-offs? Just use them again in some awesome pneumatic monster set, please Oh, and I wouldn't want to see anything re-issued .. too boring. Missed the Taj? Bummer, bricklink it or buy a used set/MISB. I'd much rather see something new, I'm not too hung up on the sets I missed (I buy them anyway, sigh) -
Trains are indeed coming, be patient grasshoppers. I'd never lie to you, would I? Also, LEGO store employees don't know jack about what's up. They'll get told way after we ninjas got pics, sets and are rollin' ... As always

'Cept for my own wiring/plugs (those from TLG these are not real LEGO items anyway), I do _not_ use custom parts. I'm an electronics expert, I sell all kinds of LEDs for a living. But using that is no fun! Working with/around LEGO parts is You can find all kinds of odd and funny parts here : http://www.bricklink.com/browseList.asp?itemType=P&catString=123 -
Technic Re-Issues - Why Not?
1974 replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
They reissued, didn't sell. I've just finished a rather detailed book about the leadership and financial troubles that TLG went through in the last 15 years. It's pretty clear that they won't dable with things like "Legends" again It's funny, because it's all about moving forward but still creating the same sets over and over. That IS the (current) strategy and they're not about to change that Edit : And the current strategy runs until 2022. Of course TLG have ben wrong (VERY wrong!) several times in the last 15 years or so (they didn't even know (as knowing in the top level domain of TLG) about AFOLs until 7-8 years ago, but I think with Knudstorp they've finally gone in the right direction It's a reall good, interesting read (allthough it's all about leadership/financial struggle and not gossip) and I think if you like to know what goes on at the very top of TLG it's a must read. It's called "Miraklet i LEGO" (The miracle in LEGO) by a well respected danish journalist. Not sure if it's been translated into english yet? There where many surprising things in that book for me. I've been thinking about doing a post on that, if anyone is interested? Cheers, Ole -

That's true, but not much. And they don't flash I've also been using this part : Both with sofitte/pinol bulbs and replacement LEDs. Looks pretty good for headlights on a large truck There really is a lot of really nice old LEGO light parts that can easily be implemented nicely with both 9V and/or PF. you just need to bit of DIY wiring yourself -
Where do Rare/HTF Parts come from?
1974 replied to Turaga of Force's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Pic is not that good, but the trans parts are (BL colours) "trans neon green" and "trans neon orange" I have a bunch of other odd/interesting parts, like what could be best described as a 'double POP arch'. I have never seen this brick anywhere before. Maybe we should make a thread with all these funny parts? (<- Or is there allready one?) -
