Lord of the Rings Ongoing Discussion
PsychoBuilder replied to Momotof's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I think the question is not when Minas Tirith shows up, but how. I expect we are essentially guaranteed to have it appear in some capacity of playscale sets ever return, and it seems high on most peoples' wishlists. The issue is that it does not seem to translate to Lego easily. It could obviously be done in architecture scale, but that's not really what most people want. The issue, however, is that many of the minifigure scaled versions lack most of the defining seven rings--it's been a while, but isn't that literally the most defining feature featured in the book? I've heard people pitch making a handful of sets, like the playscale versions of Hogwarts, but that seems impractical for all but the most hardcore fans of both Lego and Lotr, and it seems that Lego is targeting a more casual fanbase who may be interested in both with 500 dollars to spare. Additionally, the Hogwarts sets work due to the fact that they focus on specific scenes from the book and film, and often cover iconic parts of the castle. There are probably not enough scenes inside Minas Tirith to justify that, plus the exterior would really just end up being the wall. That'd be my most preferred option, for the end result, but I probably wouldn't vote for it if I were Lego. I see a couple of likelihoods--the first is a microscale castle, like 71043. I'd be okay with this. I could also see a hybrid option, microscale outside with minifig scaled interior, although to my knowledge Lego has not done this before, have they? I could also see Lego just going flat out enormous in the style of sets like Lion Knight's Castle or the Minas Tirith mocs out there, scaled to minifigs, albeit not minifig scale. There is of course also the possibility of architecture style, which seems reasonable as well. Then, of course, it's also possible that there is flat out no Minas Tirith and that I am wrong, but we hope that this is wrong. -

Wishlist: Future Star Wars Sets and Minifigures

Probably way too big for the price point or would need to be massively scaled down, but if you wanna keep with the Sith(ish) theme plus TRoS, there's always the Bestoon Legacy, which would probably make a neat concept design, and I don't think(?) you have already done that. Sorry to @ you in two separate threads though, mate! -

I think that the other thing worth noting is that probably the vast majority of Lego's audience is not on Lego related social media, so they may not be aware of Bricklink on that end either. They're probably either on Facebook or Twitter if they're the parents of the kids being targeted, or Roblox and TikTok if they're kids, or just not using Social Media at all. We in the online Lego community have a tendency to massively overestimate how much of an impact we will make on the market, I would wager, when AFOLs as a whole make up a fairly small percentage, like 20% if I remember correctly, and that assumes that most AFOLs are online. Now we do have kids and teens online as well, but I'd also hazard a guess there's not too many of them either. Anyways, even huge kid Lego fans are just flat out not going to know about it if they're not majorly online and active in the Lego community, plus all the things @Mandalorianknight pointed out about secondhand things, reliability of sellers, etc. Almost all of my sets from when I was younger came from either Amazon or the store, maybe EBay if it was something I really wanted to push for that was not easily available, but I only used that on maybe one or two occasions. I do also question how big an army a kid or even a teen is going to build up as well though--I really don't know who the main target of those actually is, really. I assume it's kids, in which case then the real value is getting an (admittedly very small) army in a box, and not necessarily that they will be getting multiples of the army builder set itself, like AFOLs do. -
Marvel Superheroes 2024 - Rumors & Discussion

I'd guess that it also means that it'll take more than just adding a couple of pin holes to it though. The sides probably won't be able to sit flush next to anything else, due to things like window frames overhanging, and I'd bet that the baseplate goes a couple of studs off the side. I also wouldn't be surprised if there is some fauna detailing. It'll probably moddable into fitting with the other modulars, but it'll take some work. -

Probably gonna be about a month from now that we see them then--IIRC, that's when most of last year's Marvel wave leaked. -

Huh, you're right. I just did a quick check of the older X-Wings too, and it looks like most of them have the stripe too. It's not impossible, but it'd be fairly odd to suddenly start screwing up the markings after doing it consistently for the last 25 years. -

LEGO Star Wars 2024 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
PsychoBuilder replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Seems unlikely. I don't think the AT-TE info came out on April first, and Promobricks got some criticism for leaking the actual list as a double-fake-out April fools day gag. I have a feeling they won't do it again, and it seems kinda pointless to do the same joke two years in a row. I also think it worked particularly well last year since many of those sets (the UCS Venator, the Ghost, Republic Gunship) have been heavily requested online for a well, so it seemed kind of like a wish list leak wave. But then again, I'm willing to be surprised. -

Another good question to ask is why FF would exclusively post that in the LSWLeaks subreddit and not just the standard r/legoleak? Maybe he did and it got taken down, but I think it's a bit odd that he would go there. I've never gotten the feeling that he heavily prefers any one theme over another, and if he did, it seems like the logical one would be Marvel, given his name and the fact that his old profile picture was of Falcon. I know he's gone on stream with people like Lifebricks, who almost exclusively focus on SW, but I don't know if FF is that way. The style of writing is sketchy too, doesn't feel like the way Falcon writes and I've never seen him sign off with "may the force be with you." For that matter, why would it be coming now, weeks after he's gone silent? As for R2-K2, I wasn't sure at first, but after finding out the context, I'd say that it's a fairly fitting choice and a sweet tribute, and also adding that the set should have a portion donated to cancer research. I heard she'd be coming in a Rebels vs Stormtroopers set, can anyone verify? -
Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

Apparently the set may not be revealed on April 1st. The leaker said that people (specifically the ReleasetheToD account) were badgering them for images, and he had revealed the image of Mola Ram which was leaked without his consent. On one hand, I do feel for him, and I think that sharing images that you were given confidentially is objectively a bad thing, but I'm also kind of skeptical that the leaker had the full image in the first place, if I'm being completely honest. Too many things just kinda point to them not being trustworthy either. -

I haven't paid a ton of attention to JW lately, but is there any chance the trailer is based on the scene from the Lost World, or do we think it means a trailer for a t-rex, rather than a trailer with a t-rex? -
Marvel Superheroes 2024 - Rumors & Discussion

Nah, you read it right, yet that's a fair point. But I suppose the discussion has been put to rest by Brick Clicker's resurgence. In any case, I'm not sure about these sets as a whole anymore. I like cheaper Iron Legion figures, and I'm riding on the Milano being one of the best sets of all time (I certainly don't object to a Baby Groot, they're shockingly expensive right now for what they are), but the battles seem ludicrously expensive and overpriced. Potted Groot and Helicarrier are fine I suppose, I doubt I'll get either unless they're absolutely amazing. On the other hand, I suppose these aren't bad for people new to the hobby, and it's really neat that there's a set less than 500$ with all of the Avengers, but It'd be nice for IW to get some new stuff as well. I'm typically someone more focused on the builds, and as is, I just don't know how many of these outside of the Milano actually have the capacity to be great. The leviathan might be okay, but it sounds like most of the AoU one is focused on terrain, which is typically a recipe for a kind of mediocre set. On the other hand, this is admittedly not terribly far off of what we got for the IS wave, and honestly, as long as the Milano is good, I'll be pretty happy. -

Yeah, seconding the usage on the Ninjago pieces. Your usage of light here is really fantastic, and I love how luminescent it all feels with the trans-clear bricks.

I've had my suspicions for a while, but I'm still going to have to make you one of my Prisoners (2013). Perhaps that one was a tad forced. In any case, I'm still kind of shocked how little we have discussed the sets lined up. This year feels like Infinity Saga part 2 to me, I'm beyond hyped to see the summer wave and D2C. -

MCJ user spotted on the LEGO Marvel thread, Iām revoking your Kino Card. Hand in your copy of Paddington 2, please. -
I don't know about the shadow box. I love Batman Returns, and had always wanted sets based on it so I could get the Catwoman and Penguin designs, but when the set was revealed, I really didn't love it enough to buy it. I really think a sweet spot could have been achieved that was much smaller and more palatable, but I don't even know if I would have been particularly interested in it if it were over $200.
